The Eagle was formally called the Robert Browning. It changed it's name a couple of years ago to The Eagle. I don't know why, as nothing about the place changed. Part of the Samuel Smith brewery chain, This pub is situated one the main dining strip of Clifton Road, which is really the heart of the Maida Vale community. If you use Samuel Smith pubs, you would knoe what to expect. They only stock their own drinks including their beers, spirits and mixers. The interior of this pub has not changed for years. It has a dark wood bar, which looks quite nice, and old fashioned pub furniture for the patrons. It has a local pub feel to it, and you feel as though the drinkers that come here, have done so for years. They used to have a Thai restaurant upstairs (Ben's Thai), which they inherited from the nearby Warrington Hotel. Ben's Thai had to find a new home when Gordon Ramsey took over ownership of the Warrington. They have a few bench tables outside at the front of the pub, and a small enclosed beer garden at the pubs rear. It can be quite a sun trap, when the UK weather decides to bless London with a sunny day. I've been here many times over the years. It's an inexpensive drinking option, and I usually come here when I've been, or going somewhere else. I don't think I've ever spend a session drinking here.

Great pub, great pints, great service. This is a wonderful London pub, with classic decor and great ambiance. I didn't try the food.

MY GOODNESS, place was incredible! I visited London with a group of friends, and we made a…read morereservation well in advance, which I'm so glad we did. This restaurant was absolutely amazing from start to finish. I ordered the beef roast, and we also shared a side of the creamy cauliflower, which was to die for. I truly cannot sing the praises of this restaurant enough. The service was personable and welcoming, making it easy and comfortable to ask questions and try new things. One of the managers (apologies I don't know her name) checked in on us several times and even encouraged a few of us to try additional menu items. The food came out quickly, and once it arrived, the table went completely silent because we were all too busy enjoying every bite. I highly, highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting London and even the locals. A solid 10/10 experience!

If I could rate this place a 10/5 I would. This was a death row meal for me. WOW…read more We came here for a sunday roast with 8 people, of those 2 got fish & chips- the rest the roast. I was a fish person, and I am SO HAPPY I did! The fish at this restuarant will live in my head forever. Im not joking. I live in the US and I almost want to fly back to London just to have it again. The roast looked great too, many of my friends saying the meat was great and the gravy was flavorful. The staff were ALL so friendly, even offering the charge a phone that was dying! The place itself feels like it's straight out of a movie, a true london pub. I cannot stop thinking about this fish. Mall Tavern, if youre ever in Minnesota, please send me the recipe.

This was a decent pub we all had dinner at in London on a Monday. Service is a little different in…read moreLondon. You typically order at the bar instead of a waitress coming to the table. One eventually came to our table after sitting awhile. I of course had to try the fish n chips. A couple of veggie burgers were ordered and a regular burger. Surprisingly happy hour was still on at 8 o'clock so drinks were ordered. The food all came at the same time and everything was cool. The fish had a nice flavor from the fried batter. To me it was similar to Long John Silvers as far as the batter is concerned, but slightly better quality overall. The fries were standard. The only thing horrible was the very bland mashed green peas. They should be omitted from every pub across the country, but I think it is a traditional item included with the fish. The cocktails were good as well as the price. The sticky toffee pudding was something else I was advised to try while in London. I must admit it was really delicious. It came with a scoop of ginger ice cream and a warm buttery toffee sauce to pour over. It was delightfully warm and sweet and paired well with the ice cream. The cake itself was moist enough on its own with notes of brown sugar and molasses. I could have had seconds and thirds of this desert. Yum! The majority of my party didn't think the food was fantastic. The burgers happened to be somewhat alright. This was a first for me having pub food and I would have more again as long as I stick to the basics.
