(Just so no one mis-understands, it is NOT an 80's theme bar! I repeat NOT an 80's theme bar.
It is fun, quirky, eccentric, lovely staff, good food, the "butter beer" is worth a try, Hero the dog -nering retirement- is a good wee soul, and the decor is totally insane like a mad junk shop.
The house sound system is top quality with decent bass. And the music is a wide variety of non-pop that can vary through most forms of roots based and mature alternative sounds without at all falling short by being yet anither cop-out rock/indie bar.
Vintage ska, vintage r&b, vintage soul, new orleans soul/funk, punk, new wave, electro, psychedelic, garage punk, electronica, swing, world, blues, non-indie-pop sub-pop.
Ideal for backpackers in need of a refreshing difference, old punks, old hippies, adults fed up of pop or sports bars, students, those who love music but hate radio/tv pop/metal, quizz night fans, and friendly eccentrics.
Little sofas at the back near the bar sees a collection of playable vintage gaming consoles for public use, dsrts board, and a wall in the gents toilet available for budding artists and graffiti jokers.
Whether an afternoon chill, evening pick-me-up, or night time blow-out, it's a quality, fun, warm and welcoming, fairly unpretentious bar with staff who seem to care , and enjoy being there, and I guess, management who do it because they actually like this type of bar themselves, rather than the usual professionalist mercenary attitude.
