Hotel Series, Part 1 I can't explain where this desire comes from, but there is something really appealing to me about staying in a London hotel that just might be haunted. I'm not saying that the Dixon Hotel is haunted, but it sure seems like a natural candidate. It served as the Magistrates Court and Police Station from 1905 to 2013 and its jail cells forced people to remain here against their will. Could these hallways still be roamed by the spirits of former prisoners? My guess is it's John Dixon Butler. The original architect of the building, they couldn't find a portrait of him to hang in his honor so they chose something with a bouquet of flowers where his head ought to be instead. Could he be wandering, discombobulated, in search of his noggin? ‍ It was exhilarating to explore the quiet maze of frequently darkened staircases and hallways! I think I'm pretty good with directions, but when I found myself disoriented and quite unsure of my location within the hotel, I discovered an unfamiliar doorway that opened to the lobby very near where I began. Where had I just traveled? I'd tell you if I could. What I can tell you is that there were many occasions when I gazed through the peephole in our door late at night to try and catch a glimpse of something. If you visit be sure to search for the wall displaying a copy of every jail cell key utilized here in the past, the chandelier that features handcuffs (I counted 64 of them), the benches with original prisoner carvings, examples of actual mugshots, the former courtrooms that are now a bar and a conference room, the narrow back staircase where defendants were escorted from the courtroom to one of 20 jail cells, the "Met Police" logo in the tile flooring, the 2 jail cells that have been preserved, and the portraits of 3 famous former residents of SE1 (who were not defendants). It seems fitting to me that @marriott included this property in their Autograph Collection. And that's...Henry's Take. #hotelseries #dixontowerbridge Photo Credits: Dixon Associates Krisztian and Sandor

My go to hotel when in London. Convenient Tower Bridge location. Short walk to London Bridge train station. Walkable to all sorts of great restaurants. The staff is great. Always attentive, very accommodating. And the restaurant, whether for breakfast or dinner, is really quite good. It's a small menu but they make it work. The Dixon has its own signature fragrance wafting through the building. I will say that I always find it relaxing, and never overwhelming. As for the rooms, they're nicely appointed, and about the size you'd expense in a city like London (read: small). The one annoyance I have with this hotel is there are no desks in the rooms. In any of them. They will bring a small one up upon request, but I make do without. There's just enough room without having to deal with another piece of furniture. That said, it's still my favorite Marriott affiliated property in the area. After several visits, I'm have no hesitation about staying again.

This hotel was perfect! I can't say enough how wonderful our stay at the Dixon was! From check in to check out we had the perfect stay! The hotel is extremely clean and the room was both modern and spacious. We stayed in a first floor suite and access to our room was so easy and separated from the main lobby area by both a door and hallway making it private and quite. The staff was so sweet, always greeting you with a smile and they were very helpful! There is always someone at the front desk ready to answer your questions so that was wonderful. Our only complaint would be the air conditioner was not very user friendly. We requested for our room to remain a certain temp (which was offered to us by the front desk) but we would come back and the A/C would have turned itself off. It was never hot in our room which was good but the staff did do the most to make sure that issue was addressed! Everything was great and we LOVED this hotel! It is greatly located and very close to both bus stops and the tube station. I would 100% recommend this hotel if your are planning a trip to London!

Back with another London adventure, and this time, we called The Dixon, Tower Bridge, Autograph Collection, our home away from home. From the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us with open arms and friendly smiles. You can't underestimate the value of a warm reception when you're far from home, and The Dixon nailed it. Now, let's talk about the property itself. It's a stunner! Beautiful artwork adorns the walls, creating an artsy ambiance that's hard not to love. The attention to detail really sets the tone for a memorable stay. Our room was comfortable, albeit on the cozy side - but that's not uncommon for Autograph Collection hotels. It was clean and inviting, with a bed so comfy. The only challenge? Finding enough space to open our luggage - but hey, we managed! And let's not forget the breakfast buffet. With our Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status, we enjoyed it on the house. It was a satisfying start to our day, offering familiar favorites we'd come to expect during our European travels. All in all, The Dixon was a pleasant and welcoming place to rest our heads during our London adventures. We'd definitely recommend it to fellow travelers looking for a charming stay in this bustling city. Cheers to memorable trips and cozy hotel rooms! Visit my website to see the room walkthrough.

Love love love this property in the Marriott collection. The hotel is centrally located within walking distance of the tower bridge and other landmarks. When you first walk into the hotel the lobby is stunning and you're met with a wonderful aroma. I wish I could bottle the hotel smell. I'm must say one con are the steps that are leading into the hotel lobby. There's no ramp and I had to physically pick up my suitcases to walk them into the building and they were a bit heavy. I can see that being an issue for someone. However, my room was so cute, it was quite large and spacious. The toiletries were absolutely fabulous. They provide the Penhaligon suite of products. All in all I would definitely recommend and will be returning to this hotel.

What an outstanding visit at the Dixon. I have historically stay closer to Hyde Park and decided to give the Dixon a try (better prices at booking). Of course the Marrriott Autograph Collection property had amazing service -- but I was very happy with the location (close to so many restaurants) and the great guest rooms. The property was recently renovated, so it still smelled new. Probably the highlight of the time spent at the Dixon was in the cocktail bar. Our bartender Alex was fantastic --- personal, professional and friendly. Whether there was several folks or just a handful of us, he made sure to connect with all of the guests. I was also impressed with his knowledge of the Dixon (at one time it was a jail) and the surrounding area. I look forward to future stays!

The check-in process was not very ideal for me as they made me wait for almost 2 hours before they would give me a room since the "official" check-in time is 3 PM and I arrived at noon. Also the room and especially the bathroom is pretty small. They do offer a complimentary breakfast, but it is not very good, although they were flexible enough to let a guest of mine also eat the breakfast there along with me which has to count for something. I will definitely check out another hotel maybe the Hilton doing my return trip to London in a couple of months.

They needed to be retrained in customer service, how to make people welcomed, how to smile. Otherwise, a computer kiosk would have been better. -Washer/Dryer can get very busy. It didn't help that people didn't came back in time to take out their clothes. -Bed was uncomfortable. Pillows were small and thin. Sheets felt cheap. -Bathroom was very DIY. Absolutely atrocious experience and still dealing with customer service more than 2 months later…read more Let me preface this with the fact that I book reservations with Premier Inn multiple times a year for different clients and family members. I book online the same way every time and have never had issues like I experienced at this location. I have encouraged all future clients to book elsewhere and will not book any Premier Inn locations again. I made the reservation for 2 clients who were visiting from America. Everything was paid in full and they had the email to prove it. On arrival they were told they owed an additional fee over £200. For that price difference they could have stayed at a 5 start resort in Knightsbridge. They paid the difference as they arrived late at night and were jet-lagged. I arrived in the morning and went to their room so they could show me what they had been given. It was disgusting. There was thick dust everywhere, badly painted walls, mold by the windows and we even found old peanuts under the bed! Absolutely disgusting and thankfully did not trigger one of their peanut allergies. I went to the front desk to discuss the issue and they were offered another room. Needless to say the second room wasn't much better. They had multiple key issues (and no they didn't keep their keys next to their phones), there was no phone in the room so they had to go down any time they had an issue. There was a broken fan in both bathrooms. The toilet seat was broken and coming off. There were also homeless people on the streets below one side of the hotel and they both said you could hear yelling late at night. Not ideal for a week long stay! I came back at the end of their trip to go through the additional charge with the front desk who themselves could not explain it properly. I finally got a manager and asked why my British father (who I booked into the same hotel) didn't received an additional fee but the others did. She didn't have an answer and just said "it's the price" even with me showing her the booking screenshot and confirmation email. After 2 months of dealing with their customer service team, they finally said "we can't discuss any further with you as it's not your name on the booking". So I forwarded all the information to my client and she is still awaiting an answer. At this point I have sent all communication evidence to her so she can dispute the extra charge with her bank. I made 2 reservations at Premier Inn in the same way and my white British friend didn't get charged any additional fees, but my black American clients did. I always aim to give people the benefit of the doubt but this can only be taken one way. Avoid at all costs, especially if you're a foreigner.

Yes, it's a Premier Inn so you're not getting opulent luxury, but it's a great place to get your head down for a night. I stay here when I'm out for work functions or late weeknights rather than return to Southend just to traipse back into London for work the next day. It's south of the river, along Tower Bridge Road and apart from the Costcutter across the road from the hotel, there's not a lot of life in the immediate surrounding area. However, you're only a 15 minute walk from the heart of the City. Because it's such good value it gets booked up so best to check availability early if you want to get a clean, basic room for less than £100 a night.

For a hotel in Zone 1 its pretty handy. A modern looking hotel with quirky design, which I found fun and interesting, the shower was absolutely heavenly, I had to force myself out every morning. Super comfy bed and fantastic pillows. This place has Free Wi-Fi, but i had a lot of issues trying to connect to it on the first night, after about 10 minutes trying to connect i gave up and used my 4G instead. On the second night it worked but it was pretty slow. The staff were all cheery and kind, the restaurant staff in particular were very lovely, happy to help and get you anything you might want or need, We had a continental breakfast included which was regularly topped up for us. Free coffee for all guests from 11am to 5pm. I was lucky to have a view of the Shard & London Eye which was a nice treat as being from Birmingham its not everyday you see a skyline like that, I'm not sure if all rooms are so lucky, but this was great view! Bermondsey is an interesting area I hadn't seen before, but the walking proximity to Borough Market and London Bridge/ the South Bank is reasonable, and you have a fantastic coffee shop just metres over the road, as well as a cinema, Sainsbury's local and a number of restaurants. The hotel is a dry hotel, meaning no alcohol is served, but this shouldn't be a problem for you as the Sainsbury's sells everything just over the road, and the staff will happily direct you should you require somewhere to find a drink or if you need glasses etc. Simply lovely, and would highly recommend

Review of London Bridge Hotel…read more I am compelled to write this review due to an unacceptable experience at the London Bridge Hotel, where safety concerns, poor service, and shocking levels of rudeness left a lasting negative impression. Our stay was marred by an incident where a member of our group slipped and fell on the poorly designed stairs. The steps are barely distinguishable, posing a clear hazard that has reportedly caused falls for both staff and guests. When we reported the incident to the duty manager, the situation was handled appallingly. The individual on duty--later identified as Alpay, the head receptionist--initially did not even seem to know who the duty manager was. After checking, Alpay confirmed it was indeed him during the incident but admitted he failed to act despite claiming to be present when the fall occurred. No first aid was offered, no basic care protocols were followed, and when asked to see the report that should have been logged, Alpay flatly refused. It was painfully clear that no report had been made, and his dismissive and rude attitude compounded an already unacceptable situation. His behavior in front of another receptionist was unprofessional, and his need to always have the last word, coupled with the unpleasant smell of cigarette breath, made the interaction even worse. This level of service is not only disappointing but also fails to meet the minimum standard of decency and care expected in the hospitality industry. The fact that someone like Alpay, who demonstrated dishonesty and rudeness, holds a position of responsibility as head receptionist reflects poorly on the management of this hotel. The experience at breakfast only reinforced the poor service culture. Staff were abrupt, and at 11 a.m. sharp, we were told we needed to leave, even if we hadn't finished. Room service was equally inconsistent, rounding out a series of service failures that made this stay intolerable. In the interests of being fair and balanced, there was one receptionist who was present at the time of the appalling interaction with Alpay, and he was kind and polite throughout the stay. Unfortunately, I cannot name him in this situation because I didn't catch his name. Alpay, however, should be reprimanded and given further training on basic customer service because he is not someone who should be leading the reception area and claiming to be a duty manager. These are titles that far exceed the communication and professionalism received from him. I do hope the general manager takes the time to review CCTV footage and address the serious concerns raised here. This review reflects my values and expectations for basic human decency and customer service--both of which were utterly lacking at the London Bridge Hotel. For these reasons, I cannot recommend staying here. Avoid it if you value safety, professionalism, and respect.

For my first visit to London, it was great to be so close to Waterloo Station. I booked the Premier Inn again for a trip with a friend in my most recent visit to London. And nostalgia for my initial London visit could not save this experience we had at The Premier Inn Waterloo. Aside from the great transportation option of being so close to Waterloo Station, it's also right in eyesight and walking distance to the London eye (5 mins), Westminster Bridge/Big Ben (10 mins), and County Hall (right across the street). The Premier Inn hotel is built right into a historical landmark, The "General Lying In" (maternity) Hospital. First off, the lobby is not in the best shape, with many broken check-in machines and furniture that has seen much better days. As a plus, though, there is a Starbucks in the County Hall plaza right across the street, which we visited often, on our most recent visit. The room was ok, but it seems way more cramped than on my first stay all those years ago. Our room did have a nice view out to County Hall with a semi-view of the Eye behind it, so that was nice - and the large window did let a lot of natural light in. The bathroom was ok sized but right next to one of the beds (if you do the two bedroom configuration), so you better be very close friends or spouses to stay in that type of room, because you'll be going to the bathroom right next to them with a thin little door between you. We also saw a tiny bug in the bathroom too, so that was not the best. Another issue we had was that we stayed for an entire week and were told by the front desk that they do not change any sheets or clean your room if you weren't staying there 10 days or more. My friend even had a womanly spotting issue with her sheets and they still would not change or clean them! I've never heard of anything like that and it made the entire visit very uncomfortable. The old phrase "location, location, location" does not save this one, because the location IS great but I don't think that alone was worth all the issues we ran into here.
