Have gotten takeout a few times since the opening in early December 2025. They've now found their groove (and hours). Food is yummy, parking convenient, clean and bright despite also being a sports bar. Casual local vibe befitting the "BAB" Kailua. (I made that up = before A&B.) Tried so far: Garlic chicken: tasty, the side portion seems priced relatively low (not complaining) Squid luau: Improved to point of perfection Poke: spicy shrimp and sesame tako as poke bowl. Almost slurped it down, so good. Haven't had ahi yet. Laulau: legit Also like the little sides: pickled onion, lomi tomato (not really salmon). Sometimes they run out (lke the nachos), so be prepared to choose alternates. Check out their Instagram but be aware that there's another The Dish in Honolulu that's entirely a different restaurant. Be sure it says Kailua.

Being on the windward side, decided to try The Dish. They took over the location of a Chinese Restaurant. We were planning to dine in. Was a little confused. One door had a close sign and the other door displayed an open sign.. We entered the the door that said open. This door is for take out. They have a display case with their poke options. I noticed that there were people sitting in the dining room. I asked if it was available. The counter person said yes .Had to go out and enter the dinner room thru the other door. The same person waiting on us.I pointed out the close signage. She turned the neon sign to on and flipped the paper sign to open. Overall service was pleasant and laid back.I ordered a mixed plate which consisted of squid luau and chicken long rice. Wife had the panko crispy ahi. The squid luau was light on the coconut milk With a sprinkle of squid on top. The chicken long rice Had was flavorful and a good potion of chicken .The long rice was on the thicker side. Enjoy

Since we were in kailua picking up mail my husband saw this place on yelp. He loves hawaiian food so he told me let's try them i said ok. We arrive and its seems like the place wasnt open but the signage said they were. The dining room sign said close but had to point it out to the server and she turned the sign around. Now this place is like a bar atmosphere bar area TVs on the wall for sports watching and I guess they even have music too maybe at night The menu right now is simple hawn food and some plate lunches. At night they have pupus I guess. I had the crispy packs fry ahi katsu and my husband had squid luau and chicken long rice. He ask for poi but they don't have it yet since they didn't bring any kalo to make the poi. Still working on making hawaiian food and certain plates from scratch. I thought my katsu was to crispy the coating and the macaroni salad was a tad bit salty. The sauces came in white sauce I think it was garlic aioli and the dark one was some kind of sweet katsu sauce. Came with pickle onions too. My husband said hes food was OK squid luau was a little watery and little coconut milk taste and the chicken long rice had a good taste but their long rice noodles were on the fat side. If you in the kailua area its on the street where Walgreens is located. Used to be a Chinese restaurant on the left.

Too much fat, not enough luau leaf, served cold, no butterfish piece, and no poi. Not so WowWow LauLau.

I like a chunk of fat, even 2 small ones, but this Laulau is HALF-fat,half-pork,barely any luau leaf, and they handed it to me barely warmed up me - and cold inside. No butterfish - unless it was in that fat? Also, no poi. I like that they renovated - good parking, but their $10 LauLau was not Wow-Wow. My first time there to try - pretty disappointing.

We just had lunch from The Dish. We ordered Ahi katsu, garlic chicken, a poke bowl and marlin dip. Prices for each plate was reasonable. All were made super fresh and hot off the kitchen. Ahi katsu was my favorite. The fish was super moist and the outside crust was crunchy. The Poke was so fresh and flavorful. Loved it. Customer service was great. The girls were so patient and nice. This is my new fav to go place in Kailua.

Forgot to take a picture of the ahi katsu but it was ono! Fries include lots of crinkle fries. Clean bathroom and dining space. Comfortable temperature (AC). Attentive service from staff. Lots of TVs & decent sound system.

Food: GREAT AND TASTY!…read more Service: very kind to everyone! Ambiance: love the atmosphere

Exactly perfect for what we were looking for. First and foremost on the list for our search, was…read morewe hoped to find a place that had televised sports (both Monday Night Football and the World Series were on--but remember, this is Hawaii--way-out in the Pacific, so live-games come on in the afternoon or even earlier). Multiple screens make it so there is not a bad seat in the house. We also hoped to find a place with more of a "neighborhood/locals" energy to chill and relax our tired dogs (feet) in...and also, if it wasn't asking too much, hoped that it would have a fun vibe. (*Check those criteria off). "Icing on the cake", for us would be if the location had decent food. (Check that one off and put an exclamation point behind it--as the nachos we had were, "Fire".) As fate would have it, a lucky break was to be had as we walked in to the very-full bar. There, before us, were two stools at the bar (*the last remaining spots in the place) and they happened to be open. Side note: The bar has a speak-easy attached to it, and one day, we are gonna try it. Going there has been mentioned a few times when we have chatted with locals and tourists regarding memorable and unique things to do. Our servers were pleasant and accommodating despite the fact that the place was "choke widd plenty-kine cust-a'mah" (local pidgin for, full of customers). It's a hard balancing act to make patrons feel welcomed, but also not leave other thirsty tables waiting for too long. The two pretty blondes working that afternoon did a fantastic job at this. My seasonal sour beer hit all the right notes, and my wife seemed to enjoy her less exotic tap beer (Blue moon with an orange slice--served ice cold). There is a ton of beers to choose from here. Lighting in the Kailua Tavern is kinda darkish (not a problem, as I like me a dark bar sometimes). The locals were very-welcoming. One guy offered his table to us when he noticed our food had arrived and our plates were a bit pinned in. Also, anyone who happened to be sitting near us immediately engaged in friendly banter about the games. One guy of Tongan decent, who was probably 6'5" and had muscles piled-on to his massive frame came over and leaned in very close to ask, "Hey DEN, Bradah, YOU MIND FOR IF I GO DANCE WICH YOU DATE?" (*That didn't happen, I thought channeling a classic moment from the bar-scene in, Animal House, would be funny...but like the Toronto Blue Jays in the late innings of last night's game, "Swing and a miss". ) The Kailua Town Tavern was the opposite of a swing and a miss for us. It was fun and a good place to "chill"; the vibe was what we had hoped for; and of special note were the steak strips on the nachos, as they were superb.
