My younger daughter just graduated from "Discovery years" to attend transitional kindergarten. She has been in this school since she was 18 months old. She attended every classrooms in this fantastic school. She had great time in every classroom (2/3/4 yrs classroom) and loved every teacher. The Director, Ms. Nahzie always hires the best teachers for the children. My elder daughter who is in grade 2 now also attended Discovery Years. Children does a lot of independent activities, make friends and do a lot of indoor/outdoor play. Compared to other daycare, we feel that the teachers genuinely care and love the children. We are very fortunate to find such a wonderful daycare in our neighborhood where our children had spent their most important years with great care and love. read more

Our 4 year-old son attended The Discovery Years in Almaden until last week, when he graduated, and he was extremely well taken care of there. The teachers are caring, warm and patient, Miss Nahzie, the Director, is very professional and ensures everything runs well, classes are well staffed, kids are happy and families have special memories of this period. My child enjoyed every single day and asked to be picked up last, bonded with his teachers and the rest of the kids and thrived during his year there. His experience was extremely positive and we are grateful to Miss Nahzie for creating a safe and warm environment that kids genuinely enjoy being a part of. My son has great time here. The teachers are very good. Particularly Miss Joselyn is very nice to kids. The director Nahzie does good management of the whole facility and organizes events every quarter. For summer they do exciting summer programs which includes games for the little ones. So much time has flown by, but Discovery Years will forever hold such a special place in my heart. Discovery Years was my first home away from home, with my first friends, first adventures, and first teachers who will always be so beloved to me! We still stay in touch to this day and i even like to refer to them as my 'aunties', as they truly teach and lead with loving nurture, in a way that stays with you for life. Just graduated high school, but not so long ago-- according to the beautiful Ms. Nahzie, i was just her little Aurora, graduating in 2008. She remembers that moment from back then far better than i do, but Discovery Years gave me the genuine compassion, attention, love, and fun i needed, and that every child deserves, which made me the person i am today. This preschool has been a miracle for us. Our son suffers from a speech delay which has led to difficulties for him to socialize and engage with his peers. Before Discovery Years we tried another preschool, but he would get very frustrated and engage in mostly isolated play. Since we started here, his language has drastically increased, he is repeating everything and wants to communicate verbally, he plays with others very well, is more engaged, and absolutely loves going to school. Even his speech therapist is astounded at the amount or progress he's made since starting this preschool. Nahzie and her staff are truly remarkable. We know that it isn't the easiest to work with our son given his delay, but all of the teachers exhibit patience, understanding and care when engaging with him. I can't recommend this preschool enough as it really has made our son blossom in ways I didn't even think was possible. read more

My son has been going to The Discovery Years for a year and a half and he loves going to school everyday. Half the time he doesn't even say bye. We had a horrible experience at his school prior so it was so nice seeing how well he adapted. It is such a quaint little school where they celebrate everything and the classes interact together. When we go pick him up you hear everyone yelling bye to him and he's all smiles. All the teachers were such a great help when it came to potty training and I'm so thankful for their patience! My husband and I work full time and I definitely have mom guilt of having to have my son at school such long hours but it is so nice to see pictures of his day and that he is somewhere that I truly trust to give great care to him. My 2,5 year old daughter has been going to The Discovery Years since she was 16 months old. She started during the pandemic. All her teachers Ms. Nahzie, Ms. Estela, Ms. Sephanie, Ms. Maria, Ms. Manny and Ms. Rosie shows immense care about the kids and helped in ramp up and she completely enjoys the daycare. From day one my daughter connected with Mis.Estela. It is a very homely environment with great learning. Most importantly the staff is very caring and addresses individual needs. Clean facility with lots of activities and fun while learning. Very happy with our decision for my daughter to be there and interacting in such a wonderful environment. The teachers helped a lot during her potty training, and we succeed with their help and patience. My daughter learns so much from school, and tells us about circle time, and her friends. Not sure about this place, it looks very professional and well set up but I met the director Nahzie, nice lady but she has a tendency to really correct the parents as she watches them interact with their child which I found very irritating. She is very professional and nice, but there was no way I could get along with someone who is consistently interrupting me when I am handling my child. I met her for a tour and after and almost committed till the time I came in to have my son check out the place, she started again to preach to me about not saying no too much to my child, when he was about to eat the sand from her sandbox, and then corrected me when I was describing what he is playing with, by saying 'you have to tell him the correct thing'. I mean it's fine she is correcting me, but I wasn't wrong and I was explaining the item correctly, but it felt like she was quite difficult to work with, and the center needs to have a partnership where both the director and the parent has a good working relationship with mutual respect. I signed up elsewhere at a family day care I couldn't be more happier with, and my son is thriving. He also is a little loud , but which young toddlers isn't loud when they get excited which is a very normal thing but she jumped to conclusion and repeated herself twice if my son's ears have been tested. Not cool, I can understand she has her opinions, but that is personal and I don't appreciate that either. My son's ears have been tested and he is normal just like the many toddlers that are loud and get excited, this is not something she should have called out and assumed. I am glad I didn't go here, I think it would be a really painful experience dealing with her but great to see so many high rated comments here, I don't know about 5 stars on every review, doesn't seem like everyone takes the times to put their feedback on here, unless I am completely off. Also she will not want you to leave your kid on the first day unattended, in-fact she recommended the parent to accompany your child for one hour every day for at-least a week or something to that effect. That is not possible for full time working parents that simply don't have the flexibility to do so. The director also seemed a bit bothered when she said " It's too much when a child keeps crying and I need the parents to accompany them" I get the concept but in my opinion that is a recipe for disaster, the child would only get more clingy and take longer to adjust. At my current day care I simply started 2 hours for 2-3 days, then extended to 4, and now he is at the 9-3pm schedule in week 2, no issues, and I simply drop off my son, no questions asked. Sure he crys but the beauty of a high quality day care center is the teacher's know exactly how to engage, calm down and get a toddler distracted, and 10 minutes later I see a pic of my kid laughing and feeling better. I am sure this place is wonderful, just personally I couldn't see my son thrive here and also as a parent I don't think I could work with the Director, feel's very irritating to be told every interaction what the parent should be doing. She should remember we are the parents, we do what is best for our child. Please don't offer advice unless you are asked. Thanks! read more

We've had a fantastic experience at discovery years from when our kids were 2 until now, as they head to kindergarten. They loved going to daycare so much that they even missed it on weekends! The diverse age groups provided excellent socialization and learning opportunities, and the variety of activities kept them engaged. I feel so lucky to have stumbled upon this gem of a pre-k! The staff is amazing, kind, gentle in their approach to learning discipline. My daughter feels happy every morning to go to school. We had to take a break in 2020 due to the pandemic but upon returning, I see that they have taken all precautions and have had no cases at this center. We started our 2 yr old daughter at Discovery years six months back and we are so pleased that we did. She took her time to settle down and eventually she started loving the place and now she looks forward to go there every morning. We did take a tour before enrolling, and they have a spacious, bright and clean facility. The teachers are very kind and creative and build great rapport with the kids. The communication has been really good during Covid situations and they are up to date on implementing local guidelines. My daughter has been going to this location. The day care has really good infra-structure, great play area and loving and caring staff. Miss Nazhie and her staff take great care of your child. They are very warm and loving towards the kids. I like the precautions they have followed during Covid to keep kids, staff and the families safe. My 3 year old started during the pandemic and I have been extremely happy with The Discovery Years and the staff. From following covid protocols, to engaging and caring for the children - everything has been great! I love that the teachers are so inclusive of her older sibling who does not even go there, and send home an extra goody bag for her each time. The staff make it fun and educative for the kids, and my daughter has always loved to go to school. She has learned a lot over the last 9 months and I can see that through her good behavior, her interest to write, read, draw and sing! I rarely feel like getting online to give a bad review but my interaction with the director of this place was such a put off that I feel compelled to write this. I did read previous reviews including the negative ones and still decided to give this place a try. And now find the negative reviews being very accurate. The director Nahzie feels she knows your kids including the ones you don't enroll better than you and she will go a step further to get into your personal space and choices. She really gets very insensitive making uncalled for negative comments like the older one will just 'pretend' to love the younger one. I was completely taken aback with her conjecture. She will go ahead and offend you with her opinion of a right age difference between siblings and anything beyond that is just totally wrong. I tried to stick to my enquires about the facility but she seemed more curious about the relationship between my kids and why I had them apart. I mildly try to murmur something like it is a personal choice and I wanted to discuss other things there, but she was so persistent that it really made me uncomfortable staying there. The teachers seemed pretty nice and polite. I won't be enrolling my child there because I feel communication is something basic and especially in a children's facility we expect the people around to be very thoughtful and sensitive. read more

Teachers and staff is very experienced and kids love playing here. My son loves coming here even though it was only 2-3 months. Has more of a home daycare feel than a school environment. Things they could improve on: The center is a bit old and needs some upgrading. Can improve communication better like other centers where they have a timetable of when they changed the kids, how much they ate, what they learned that day... My son got norovirus from one of the other kids. They told me that AFTER I told them my son got it and that's why I didn't bring him to school the previous week. They even told me teachers got it. My daughter has been at the Discovery Years since December 2016. She is extremely happy and well adjusted. This school is very well run and organized. The director Ms. Nahzi is knowledgeable in child development and will work with your situations whether you are working parents or stay at home parents. The teachers and staff are kind and truly care about the children. If you go visit the school, you will see that they are overstaffed and the children are well being cared for. Like many parents, I have looked at many preschools before I chose the Discovery Years. I would like to tell you that this is an awesome school and I never have to worry about my kid. They provide both academic structure and loving environment for the children. They have a gymnastic person coming every Monday which is super convenient. My son loves the discovery years! He was here for 1 year during his preschool years. The teachers are awesome here and very knowledgable with early childhood development. We love this school because there is a family feel here. I knew my son would be spending a lot of time here and that this would be like his second home. A lot of the pre schools around were so focused on academics which is a good thing. But I wanted a balance and I also didn't want to take my sons childhood away. He will be him school for the next 12 years. I wanted a place for academics but also a place where he would feel loved and this was it. Ms. Nahzie took us in and treated us like we were her own kids. She's always so nice and sweet and is always giving me good suggestions and tips. We love this school and love the teachers so much. I appreciate them taking care of my son as if he was their own! Both of my girls attended Discovery Years from toddler to kindergarten. They absolutely loved attending at every age level. Ms Nahzie is a fantastic director and the kids absolutely adore her. My older daughter now in first grade still asks to visit her old school to see Ms Nahzie and the rest of the staff. Nahzie is also very accommodating when it comes to unusual schedules or special requests. She very much cares about the parents as well as her students. My son has been attending the Discovery Years since July 2017. He is now two years of age. I can definitely see an improvement in his vocabulary, he learned so much every since he attending here. Within few months my son knows how to count 1-10, says Monday-Friday and sing many songs! He loves going there and extremely happy every time I dropped him off in which makes me feel ease. The Discovery Years is a fantastic daycare / preschool. My son started at 18 months and is absolutely thriving. He loves going to "school" everyday and is making leaps and bounds in his language and social development. The teachers are fantastic and truly care about the kids. They are all very experienced and provide a warm and loving environment. My son is very independent and one of the things I really like about the school is they allow him to explore his surroundings in a safe environment. The teachers keep an open dialogue with the students, so instead of just saying "no, don't do that", they will explain to the child why they shouldn't do a certain thing and the consequences of their actions, which I think is very important. The Director, Ms. Nahzie is very knowledgeable about early childhood development and continues to educate herself on the topic. I highly recommend the Discovery Years. read more

The Discovery Years childcare center is a great place for the families to make sure that their children are enjoying the day. We have used their service for about five months, after moving our daughter from a home-based daycare to here. I would summarize the pros and cons of the center as follows: Pros: 1- The staff is great! My daughter really loves her caregivers and teachers. They do their best to make sure that the kids are enjoying their time and also improving their creative skills! 2- They have a spacious playground! I am sure that their playground and equipment are more than many citywide parks. They also have a large sandbox, which kids can play in it. This big backyard space allows them to spend many hours of the day outside! 3- The staff is very accommodating. We had to drop off my daughter early and had to pick up her late (we had no other option!) and they kindly helped us with our schedule for that day. 4- Their tuition comparing to the area and similar centers is very affordable and fair. 5- They don't change the staff and this helps the children to make some connection with them. In addition, the caregivers learn each kid's particular needs and know how to deal with that. Cons: I don't have any particular thing in my mind, but would be happy to see they are renewing some of their older furnishes and stuff. Accordingly, I would definitely recommend this center to my friends and parents. read more

My daughter attended the Discovery Years for almost 2 years from 18 months to 3 years old. My daughter, and we as parents, loved this place!! This place is combination of daycare and preschool. 1) Teachers All matured experienced teachers and are all loving people. They make sure that kids wash hands all the time, but honestly it's kind of hard to avoid not getting a cold during flu season since a lot of kids there. 2) Environment You can't tell from front of the building, but they have a big backyard which kids can run around! The building itself is not new, but they tried updating like painting inside and adding a new outdoor play set. But the most important thing is always maintained clean and hygiene inside! 3) Learning activities They have always seasonal activities and decorations which I personally enjoyed as a parent. It's nice to see the art work my daughter made at the daycare. They invite parents to join holiday celebrations too. They have daily fun activities during summer program and gymnastics program as well. 4) Experience My daughter learned to be nice to others, play together, and speaking skills early on. She didn't attend the preschool program, but she learned numbers, colors, and shapes and lots of songs. She got a best friend too! If you are looking for developing social skills and safe environment, and surrounding loving people, I will highly recommend to join the Discovery Years!! Discovery Years has been an amazing extended family like place to us. I have nothing but all good things to say about this school. I joined my son when he was about 18 months. I was stunned by the dedication the teachers have, not only their class teacher but all teachers in school help out any kid in need of attention. They not only helped him settle in well, but what was heartening to learn was the teachers used to hold him, sing to him and walk around to put him down for nap. And they helped him eat lunch since he was little and it was his first time out of home. They also have very interesting set of activities planned for toddlers to keep them well engaged. My selling point to sign up was their huge play ground and structures they have. I am strong believer that kids learn a lot by spending time outdoors, and I have not seen many other day cares that have such huge play area unrestricted to all ages. The director of the school is very much involved hands on in the day-day functioning including helping kids settle in, helping teachers when they need extra help and my son was very much attached to her equally or more than his class teachers. Last but the most important of all, they are extremely hygienic and have a good sick policy, my son never fell sick while he was there. This review would not be complete if I didn't mention that my son always used to ask if he could go to Discovery Years even during weekends and vacation time. I'm very pleased with this location and the way they take care of my daughter. The staff is outstanding, very knowledgable and very patient with the kids. I'm not sure about the other reviews complaining about the staff or the director. One of the many things I like about this place is they take a holistic approach when taking care of your kid. You just dont drop your kid and let them figure it out how to care. They will ask questions trying to get some background and context in order to best take care of your kid. And this is not a one off thing, this is an ongoing process. If your kid is behaving differently they will ask the parents questions trying to understand what could be the reason why your kid is doing X, Y and Z. They will also give advice on how we parents can improve and its up to the parents to follow the advice or not. They are usually spot-on from my experience. Both the director and staff have a lot of day-to-day experience and are very nice. I highly recommend this place. read more

My son is going to the Discovery year for 1 year and he transitioned from infant class to toddler class and is completely potty trained now. I am happy that they not only teach academics but give equal importance to arts, personal hygiene. They have a very big outdoor play area which my son enjoys. The kind of every day activities he does (be it crafts, arts, letter writing) is improving and he is keen to learn new things. I guess credits should go to Miss Stella, Miss Lupe, Miss Liz and Miss Stephanie. They all take care of my son very well and inform me of his daily activities. Miss Liz, Miss Stephanie was patient enough in potty training and he got better. Miss Nahzi gives important tips in upbringing now and then and is a pleasure to talk with. We love this school! When we enrolled our son here, he had separation anxiety and did not speak English yet. But now after just 3-4 months, he is so comfortable here, and starting to speak English already! The best thing that I like about this school is that it is more like a family, where everyone knows everyone. All the teachers know all the students in different classes and vice versa. The teachers are so warm and welcoming, I feel very comfortable leaving my child in their care! I would strongly recommend enrolling your child in this school. read more

I have two kids studying at The Discovery Years. It's been a year since my son joined the school, and I feel I have probably known enough to really share my own experiences. I love the school, and can probably write a lot about it... but to make this review concise, here are some of the reasons that I would recommend you to get the school checked out! (1) Super experienced teachers with great patience (2) The chance for all kids (from different age groups) to interact while having their "own" space (3) Great teacher-student ratio (4) Easy drop-off/pick up driveway (5) Great kids (& parents) (6) Nice/sunny yard to play & run around (7) Children really get to learn and develop (8) A proper school with a very special "homey" feel To evident the changes in my son from the strong resistance in the first couple of months to have really enjoyed the learning, playing and friendship at the school, I am just extremely thankful to the great teachers at the Discovery years! In particular, Ms. Meeta it is the calmness in her, the patience she shows in her students, that you know your kids are put in "good hands"! I was nervous having to send my daughter to the care at 18 months, Ms. Estella, being a very experienced teacher, has made the transitioning smooth for both of us. She has a special connection with each one of the toddlers in her class, and my daughter enjoys her time away from mummy while making new friends and learning new stuff! The director, Ms. Nahzie, is very knowledgeable. She knows her kids well, and offer great advice, ranging from educational to behavioral. You know she really is "in the business" after you spend time talking to her! Finally, my son really enjoys the special playing time with Ms. Shirin in the afternoon... and we all find Ms.Rita's smile very comforting! Nahzie and the staff are great!! We always feel so welcome when we arrive. The facility is clean and feels like a home. The backyard is very large. It has the biggest sandbox that the kids love. I never worry about dropping off my son. He's done great with transitioning from class to class as well. They don't push anything on your child. If they don't want to go to a different room, they don't have to. The teachers are wonderful as well. Gymsters and a weekly basketball class is an option if you want your kids to be enrolled in extras. read more
