What an awesome, different experience! Dinner Detective keeps you entertained and on the edge of your seat the entire time. It is semi interactive but not over the top. I just sat back and watched the live actors do their thing. You truly have no idea what's going to happen next. They change up the show every two to three months to keep thing's different. Hosted at the Embassy Suits in Covington it was a nice setting overlooking the Cincy riverfront. The food was like wedding food, not the best but not the worst. Easy to get to and free parking across the street. Dinner Detective is definitely worth doing. read more

Such a fun evening full of twists and turns! I was a little leery to attend because I wasn't sure what to expect, but it definitely exceeded the limited expectations that I had. I won't ruin it for other participants, but you are literally a part of the show from the moment you walk in the door. I sprung for the suspect package and had fun watching my son realize HE was being accused of the crime. Pay attention, there is a prize for the person who solves the crime, which just happened to be my kid. #proud The food is average hotel fare, but there is a limited bar in the room where the show takes place. Went for a Bachelorette party. Had wanted to do something like this for a while so I was happy to have the chance. I will say I found the ticket price a bit on the high side, but hey, it's what she wanted to do so off we went. It was at the Hilton down by the river in Covington, and this hotel didn't make a lot of sense in layout, so it was a bit of a task to find the place, but then it was easy going to check in and pick a name tag and get situated. I want to make very clear that the actors are amazing and enthusiastic and very very funny. The show was entertaining. It was a good time, overall. However... the food was... not great. Especially considering the ticket price. It was bland and tasteless and lukewarm. Only water was provided, and even then you had to catch someone about three times and ask for a refill. Not very impressed with the food or food service, though the individuals were all very nice, just overwhelmed I think. I'm glad we went and it was an interesting experience, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do it again. I mean, not unless there were a steak option? Or new food service. read more

To start with they say you get an appetizer and they brought us 1 cheese curd each. I seriously thought it was a joke. The lights are very bright the whole time. I kept expecting them to dim a bit. The story line was long drawn out tough to stay interested. By the end I didn't even care really I was ready to leave half way through. Then we were expecting cheesecake and they ran out and we got brownies. That was the least of my worries at this point. Also on top of what we spent for the dinner show, drinks and parking we ended up rescheduling from a previous date to this night and that was an $80 charge!! This was so fun! Great actors - great mystery - they really got the audience involved. HOWEVER - the food was horrible.... once you are seated they walk around with a few plates of appetizers and you are lucky to get any - we got a cold chicken "nugget" and something that we couldn't identify - and you only get ONE of each and that's it. For dinner you had your choice of chicken or salmon and you got a plate of massed produced - warmed up food. My chicken was cold a rubbery, the 4 tiny potato chunks were obviously several days old and then you got a portion of French style green beans. The best part of the dinner was the bread that was served with a small salad - but they took it away with the salad plates even if you weren't done with the bread. I asked if we could have our bread back and was told no. The wait staff was rude and acted annoyed to have to be there. So my suggestion is go to a nice dinner before or after the mystery performance - the price of the ticket is worth that alone without the dinner. Also I believe there are actual restaurants around town - like Maggianno's - that host dinner detective mystery nights (different actors and production company) - next time I would go to something like that where you will be served a great dinner as well. read more

Where on earth to begin??? Here's the short version: about 45 minutes into this mind numbing train wreck of a murder mystery dinner, I began to fervently pray that I would actually be murdered, as my death would give me sweet respite from this waking nightmare, one that reminded me not only of my high school drama club, but the food from my high school cafeteria. For instance: the appetizer was one (1) frozen buffalo chicken bite. No, I'm not kidding. You know how you can get a bag of like 120 of those at Sam's for $10? They gave you one (1). Keep in mind this "experience" was $60 per person. As to the "performance": I simply cannot capture in words how completely opposite of entertaining it was. Terrible jokes. Time wasting interactions with the audience....each of them more cringe-worthy than the next.....and none of them with any actual relationship to the "mystery". Horrible sound that left half of the dialogue unintelligible. Actors scattered within the audience who were about as difficult to spot as a bonfire at midnight. All so bad that it became impossible to decide whether the food or the show was a bigger factor in leaving you feeling as if you had just been cheated, abused, and nauseated simultaneously. Tonight was my first time going to a murder mystery dinner and it was pretty fun. It is definitely an event and lasts about 3.5 hours from the time you're able to check in. The venue is a little strange since it's in a room in the Millennium that you'd expect a conference or a wedding to be in. Granted, during the time we were there there was also a cheerleading competition going on. Anyhow, the performance itself was pretty fun. There were some cast members who shined brighter than others. It is very interactive, so be prepared to talk to strangers and potentially be singled out in front of everyone by the "detectives." My biggest complaint would be that it was pretty easy to pick out who the actors were just based on physical similarities. Everyone was about the same age and presented themselves very similarly. The food was decent, kind of what you would expect to see at a wedding. I would recommend if you're a big eater to not go in expecting to leave stuffed. It was enough food, but I could see someone being disappointed by 1 piece of an appetizer, small salad, 1 roll, about 4-5 oz of beef, 1/4 mashed potatoes and 3 carrots. Iced Tea and coffee was provided and if you wanted anything else there was a cash bar available. Prices were typical of what you'd see at a bar (about $5 for a beer). The waitstaff was wonderful and super attentive. They checked on us constantly, without being pushy, and made sure that we had everything that we needed. Overall I would recommend checking this out. It was a fun switch up from a typical Saturday night. However, I would keep my eyes open for a groupon vs. paying full price. read more

A murder mystery dinner was definitely on my bucket list. My friends were so nice to take me for my birthday! We had a good night, but this was a once is enough kind of event. Here's a bit about our experience: The dinner took place in a banquet room within the Millenium hotel downtown. It was set up like a small wedding or even a conference. The service was great and the food was what you would expect from a hotel. Not amazing but alright. The show was kind of weird. I expected it to be very interactive - a lot like the movie Clue (fave!). But I can't say it was like that at all. It actually started out a little rocky. We all put on name tags. Our names weren't real but something we made up. I was Melrose. We took our seats and were brought to the show's attention by the narrator. She had everyone get up and interrogate three people from other tables. We were given example questions, but nothing had happened yet. Why were we interrogating people before a murder took place? This would have been an interesting thing to do later in the dinner, but right at the beginning it was awkward and felt pointless. The rest of the show just played out in front of us. Something would happen, then the investigators (actors) would charge into the room and reveal clues, and sometimes they'd talk to people in the audience. The investigators were the driving force of the show and pretty funny. The actors planted in the audience were usually pretty obvious so you knew who to pay attention to. Finally the end of the show came and we were given the opportunity to solve the mystery on paper and hand it in. Several people at my table nailed it right on the head. Of the people that got it right someone behind the scenes chose a "winner" of the night who got a small prize and I believe a certificate to return to a future show. All in all I'm glad we went. It was a fun night out. I think the whole experience could use some improvements though. If we ever do it again I'd like to try something with a theme that takes place at a restaurant, and maybe something a little more interactive for the guests. read more
