My wife and I have received our dental care from the superb staff at The Dentists' Office in Fernley for over 15 years and no matter what "rating" system is used, we would award them the very highest score. We both enjoy excellent dental health (we are both in our 70s), and we recommend them to everyone we know in the Fernley area. Every single person (whether the person is a DDS or a dentist assistant or a hygenist or an office staffer) deserves kudos for his / her professionalism and personable attitude, but we would be remiss if we did not offer special recognition to three people: Dr. Homze, Temple, and Mackenzie. The first time I went here to have teeth pulled and they were great. They did xrays and found out I had 12 teeth that need fillings, 6 need to be pulled and one that had infection and needed root canal and crown. That day I had 2 teeth that were bothering me pulled. Came back in to make an appointment to get some of the teeth filled because that's what I could afford at the time. I could use the rest of my insurance to fill 5 teeth costing me a little over 200.00. The office manager told me I could sign a release for the infected tooth, the one that needed the root canal and go forward with the 5 fillings. I went back in the following week to sign the release and make an appointment for the 5 teeth. The dentist refused to accept the release to help me with the fillings for the 5 teeth until I had a root canal costing almost 500.00 and possibly a crown done on the infected tooth. The crown and root canal even with insurance would be like 2000 bucks. Seems he'd rather do what cost the most money for me rather than doing what I can afford right now. Pretty sure cavities turn into more root canals and crowns if not fixed in time. First visit 5 stars now 1. read more

BEWARE OF BILLING PRACTICES WITH THIS FIRM. So sad to have to post this. Thought we had found a great dental practice, in little old Fernley back in 2021. We get our teeth cleaned every 4-6 months, religiously, so were in the office on a regular basis. Things were great with dentists and hygienists until late in 2023. Suddenly, no more payments with a credit card. What? OH...you CAN but there is a "FEE". Then early in 2024...after repeated complaints about incorrect billing (since our insurance pays 100% for preventative) we begin trying to get in touch with the "billing department". Try to get a copy of your bill/statement? Impossible. Even the front office says, "We can leave a message with them to call you, but they never do." WHAT?!? Finally in the spring, as we're still complaining to the front desk about incorrect billing amounts, we are told..."Oh. We asked Billing and they said; the errors are because we are not in network with your insurance, since last March." Again...WHAT?!? Were you going to tell us that? Cannot get a call back from "BILLING"...front desk can't help...even our carrier said; "They should have told you, if they were no longer in-network." Dentists and hygienists might be good but their business office is unprofessional at best and negligent at worst. We are SO disappointed in the lack of response or resolution from this practice. They left a spacer in my wife's gums that got her an infection. They did provide antibiotics, but we had to get the object out ourselves, after two visits! And their apology was more for formalities and saying how they worked there for over 20 years and how this hardly ever happens. Making my wife feel unheard and absolutely miserable. read more

the turn over rate here is high, and i found out why... As an employee, I would not recommend working here. The main reason I resigned from the position was because the supervisor and lead were not willing to give me time off for my religious obligations. I only asked to leave ONE HOUR EARLY. Then when denied, I asked to switch to part time so I can have one day off for my religious obligations and was denied again so I turned in my 2 week notice that same day. But there were other reasons for me deciding to leave. There is no consistency within the assistants expectations. They will attack one assitant with something they're doing wrong but say nothing when other assistants are doing the exact same thing. There is also so much favoritism. One of the assistants is dating the leads brother in law so the favoritism shows heavily. The supervisor could be kind at times, but she also has a slimy attitude and will retaliate when upset with someone speaks up for themselves. She is not trusted by a lot of the employees there and she gives empty promises. Telling an employee she'll train for a new position then will stop the training, and not give a specific start date but will start training a new and other employees. It's said that the lead has her in her back pocket. That no decision is made without the leads final say. But I have been told that there are a few times that the supervisor has the lead take responsibility for things that are above her position. The lead has some good days but more bad. The type of bad days that we all had to warn each other and prepare to deal with her nasty attitude. She loves to micromanage and pick on employees. When it was brought to her attention how she makes employees feel and how she picks on some, she literally laughed about it. They both (the lead and supervisor) do not like when people stand up for themselves. They take advantage of young adults, and/or people who are easily timid. Most of the assistants were so great to work with, so kind, and helpful. Same for the doctors. I mostly only worked with two of them, dr homze and Dr walker and I would trust them with any treatment needed. But Dr Brad is amazing as well, he is so kind and witty. I would not recommend working here at all, but the doctors and most of the assistants do care for their patients. That was one of the things that made it hard to leave. The patients and some of the friends I made. But I'm hoping me opening up and sharing this experience will encourage other employees who have dealt with or are currently dealing with what I did, will find the courage to start standing up for themselves. And that change will be made in the way the employees are treated. read more

Used to be my favorite dentist, no more. I used to pay hundreds of dollars for work with insurance. Since retiring, I have double insurance. Had some work done, spaced out, even when they wanted to get it done at once. Was told with double insurance that I'd be paying next to nothing. Then they wanted hundreds, then thousands of dollars, up to almost 6k! Kept wanting ME to call insurances. I did, several times. Found out that they were trying to bill secondary before primary and that when insurance asked for paperwork for work, they got nothing back. Delays, now 2 years later, I'm being threatened with this almost 6k. Double insurance means nothing. No problems with health issues and I've had a lot of tests and treatments. I've paid a total of maybe $100. Makes you think. read more

The most permanently damaging dentist office I've seen, these hygienists and dentists have no care for their patient's preferences. This place treated me with absolutely awful care and severely stripped my teeth of enamel, EVEN after noting that I had dental anxiety and expressed my pain audibly. This place doesn't even have a complaint system, so it is a truly eternal hell. Every word I put to this page is true. My wife needed new dentures, and I had stopped by this office to inquire about a procedure I was having done. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I recommended my wife see them about having new dentures made. From the first appointment to the last, try as they might they could not get them to fit. She had never had this problem with other dentists. They made the teeth, she put them in and they fit. After many, many appointments, they seemed to have finally come up with a solution of relining the dentures. When she went for her appointment, she was told it would be an additional 1,000.00 dollars to fix what we paid for and did not get. We only wanted what we had paid for, but now she has a set of dentures she can not wear. They took the money and and we have nothing to show. Nice people but that does not correct the problem. I was there twice, on the 17th of May, when I filled up the "forms". They have the most professional and nice (all smiling) customer service Team to start with. Then, a lady, maybe I butcher her name ( am bad with names) lol Cherryl? took the X-rays.. very professional, knowledgeable who answered some of my concerns. then the next day, another very nice, professional dental Assistant Nolena? was assisting Dr. Homze, The MAN you can trust with your dental needs. He did pull my tooth almost effortless, and was very professional. Kudos to those people that i came in contact with. I will certainly recommend this Facility to my friends and family in need of dental Services. A little background- I retired and moved from Honolulu Hawaii to Fernley Nevada last year. I've been a patient of my previous dentist for 25 plus years, so upon moving, I was a little apprehensive in having to find another provider. I had some dental issues and decided to visit Desert Vally Dental. I met with and discussed my issues with Dr Homze and we set up an action plan to address my dental issue. Came in for a new patient cleaning and exam. Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The cleaning itself was amazing. I met both Dr's during the exam as I have a rare bite condition were I was told I would likely need surgery to break my jaw. They assured me that they could fix it with ortho in 6 months time. The hygienists and dental assistants are friendly and do their best to make the patient comfortable. I have been going to Desert Valley Dental for several years, and despite living and working in Las Vegas, whenever I need dental work I come back to see Dr. Homze. I've seen several dentist over the years since I moved away from the area, and none of them measure up. After my cleaning, Melissa (who was wonderful, humorous, and kept making sure I was all right as I despise having my teeth cleaned) discovered that I needed extra work done. Dr. Homze and Bailey made every effort in fitting me into their packed schedules in order to help me with an extraordinary toothache. This place is become an institution through the hard work, dedication, and bright attitude that Dr. Homze brings to this office every day. I moved to Fernley from California eight years ago and needed a new dentist. I have always been a every six month check up kind of girl and I wanted a friendly and inviting place to go. This place is the one. From the very first they welcomed me, asked questions and made me feel at ease. Temple, my dental hygienist, has been with me since day 1 and she and my dentist go the extra mile for me, from appt dates to accommodating the times I want. We used this dentist in 2008 and if was a very bad experience. My husband landed in saint mary's icu and had to have emergency surgery to survive the infection he received during the removal of a tooth. As his windpipe had closed up. I left them a phone message about what happened and no one even called to check on him. To say the least we'd never go back. We'd used the father's location in stead before and he was fantastic. read more

So I'm not much for writing reviews so please try to keep with me thru all of this. As far as the dentist goes I have nothin but good things to say about them. They are good at their job and are friendly. But with that being said that no where near makes up for the billing and front desk here. Myself and my wife came here to get a check up and a treatment plan made for our teeth. From day one the treatment plan was incorrect with wildly over priced things on there which simple weren't true. For example I am currently on the GEHA high plan for dental insurance. A filling with them cost 200 dollars which my insurance covers only 110 and I would have to make up the difference after they gave me a 25 dollar discount. After arguing on the phone with their front desk that this was not correct they then proceeded to tell me well that's what they said so that's what you have to pay. I then called my insurance and they told me exactly what I was trying to tell them. After having my insurance call them they proceeded to tell the insurance company that they would need to talk to the manager but the manager was no able to talk at the time. So I had to visit the office in person and talk to the manager which told me I was right all along but could not tell me why they were billing me incorrectly or why they were giving out miss information about insurance coverages. When I asked if the front desk person who I had to call on 3 separate times to get the wrong information sent to me twice would be held accountable I was just told well ill talk to her. This is either gross neglect on their part or they are trying to scam both insurance company's and patients out of money. When my bill was fixed which I'm still not sure that it is fixed it showed they were trying to overcharge me by thousands of dollars. For a mistake that a front desk person will just be getting a talking to about. Please take this as a warn to everyone that wishes to be seen here make sure you know exactly what your insurance will cover and how much they will cover because they will not only not give you the correct information about it but will try to lie about it. read more

Ok...I've been there three times now and every time I walk outta there i cannot believe the AWESOME level of service I get. I saw a complaint here that the dentist "charges too much"...and to that I say "buy elsewhere", OR, just because you may not be able to afford the services THEY PROVIDE does not mean that they don't do great work while you are in "the chair" there. Heck, one person said their insurance would not pay for services there. No problem...go elsewhere! I am retired...with NO DENTAL insurance (other than preventative care twice a year) but I found the cost to go to Desert Valley Dental to be REASONABLE. If I want a new car, I cannot step foot into the Mercedes dealership.....so it is another Ford for me. The point being: as a consumer, shop around. The professionalism of the employees, the knowledgable services provided by all staff, and the after care concerns in my opinion are about AS GOOD AS IT GETS!! I stopped going to this dentist office due to their horribly rude reminder calls for appointments. If I make an appointment, I keep it. I don't need 5 calls in one day on my cell and at my work demanding I call them by 4pm to confirm. I'm in meetings and I know about the appointment. I'll call if I need to cancel. I know of multiple people that have stopped going due to this rude behavior! It's disruptive for a working individual and completely unnecessary. Since they do not know how to properly leave reminders on thier customers' voicemails, this is how you do it . . . . "This is ____ from Desert Valley Dental reminding you of your appointment on ______. If you need to cancel, please call us by _______. If not, we will see you on_____. Recently moved to the area, and brought my son in to be seen, as it was close to my house. Although he had been given a clean bill of health prior to our move from Washington, we were given a list of small procedures that "needed" to be done, and scheduled the work for the following week. The staff is courteous and spaces clean, however, as we waited for the dentist with my son in the chair for over an hour, our list of "required" dental treatment kept growing. We had several fillings done, and baby teeth extracted, yet we were told he still required more work. After receiving a quote for the second round of procedures which would have maxxed out my dental insurance coverage, we decided to dig a little deeper, and sought a second opinion in Reno. We found an office that had received stellar reviews online, as well as positive remarks from our circle of friends. The new dentist in Reno was "appalled" at the needless work done to our son, as well as the inflated cost for the work, and told us that there is no other decay or dental work required. Desert Valley Dental still had plans to the tune of about $500 after our insurance paid their portion. I will not be bringing business back to Desert Valley Dental in Fernley, NV. read more
