OMG!! Such a cute place, right on the river! The food was amazing! I had the fish tacos which were amazing. The fish was excellent and the coleslaw was sweet, just how I like it! The wraps were also great and the fries were very tasty and crispy! It's in the flight path of the airport, so it can be noisy at times, and bring your sunglasses as the sun can be blinding especially at sunset. The scenery is gorgeous! I love this place. The food is....well, I haven't had it. but, it doesn't look like anything exciting. The drinks are....nothing special, but not bad prices for HH. The service is pleasant, and quick. But you're drinking on a houseboat! It's so fun! There are few places I would rather have a gin and tonic on a sunny day, than at the Deck, watching the Columbia float by. It's not a secret though, so expect it to be busy, with maybe even a waiting list on those perfect summer days. And, hey, maybe if you're lucky (if I'm lucky) I'll meet someone with a boat, and then we can be friends, and then I can have my next gin and tonic on their boat instead of at The Deck... I love the location and vibe of this place! The staff are generally fantastic and I observed a particular waiter who I wish was our server. The one we had was a little dismissive and left me feeling like I was making her go out of her way for asking for water (on a hot sunny day). Mean while, the other waiter was filling one of the other patrons cup for a third time (sorry, I'm detail oriented). Of coarse I'm not going to let that ruin an awesome experience at The Deck! As I was leaving, I noticed the same waitress addressing one of the on coming staff in a slightly demeaning tone regarding the area she had chosen to staff (perhaps she was a new employee). My point is, all it takes is one bad apple... Don't let me sway you from this excellent venue. Perhaps this individual will read this critique and build upon it to improve her game. Food was fantastic ordered a burger and husband had pulled turkey. Food was yummy hot and fresh. Ordered a Caesar on happy hour time before we came and came in the world's smallest bowl. Kids loved the chili dogs. Nacho was good as well. Only reason not 5 stars is service is a little slow both times coming to the table. read more

NOT SO HAPPY HOUR One of the most bizarre experiences of my life. After being seated by the hostess with a party of two at a table for six our waitress came over and took our drink and appetizer order. When she was finished she asked if we had more joining us. I told her no it was just the two of us and I could tell that was irritating for her. About a minute later she comes and asks us who sat us at the table, I explained to her that the hostess had and her reply was "well I just asked everyone back there and no one said they told you to sit here, so I'm going to have to ask you to move." Not only was it very off putting it came across as an accusation, like the two of us just strolled in there and sat at the largest table we could find. It wasn't being asked to move that I was upset with, it was the way I was asked to move. Not to mention that it was 4:30 on a Friday and the tent area in which we sat was completely empty. that was it for me the experience was so unpleasant I told her we would go somewhere else. I'll never be back and I will be sure to tell as many people as possible to take their money elsewhere. read more

The food was fine, nothing to write home about but good enough. I was pleased to see they had a bucket of steamed clams on the menu. I hope to get back for them before they close for the season. I have been a customer of The Deck since it opened. There are few eating places in this town that have the ambiance of this place and as a sailor, the Deck has been a convenient place to have a meal and a drink. The fact is that, in spite of its obvious advantages, the food at the Deck consistently fails to impress. I ate there yesterday and indulged myself with a burger, a bacon blue cheese burger to be precise. I am still trying to figure out how the heck they contrived to make this staple of indulgent lunch choices almost completely tasteless. I didnt think it was possible!! This has been my experience every time. Tasteless food in a wonderful outdoor atmosphere. The final note is price. For the burger, side salad and iced tea the bill was almost 20.00. The Deck missed the mark by a lot this year. Quality, service, and price have all dramatically gotten worse. All fried food. Prices are now outrageous. We sat and sat waiting for wait staff to even take our drink order, while several other servers we tried to flag down didn't even acknowledge that we were waiting for someone. This used to be a great summer stop for our family. Now it's disappointing and frustrating, compared to what we have come to expect here. read more

What a great find! I am sad that they close for the season in 10 days (Sept 22nd), but the season has come to an end. I stumbled upon The Deck, as I was staying at the Marriott Courtyard 2 miles up the river. Great atmosphere, staff, food and views. It was an awesome bonus to find out that Happy Hour was all day long for the last 10 days of the season. $7.95 for a fabulous Halibut Taco, chips & salsa. Not only a great value, but really tasty and filling. If you want to sit out on the river (I really mean ON the river, looking at Washington State on the other side of the river, you have to check this place out. read more

Well I have no idea how I have lived in Portland for years and have never been to this gem! If you are feeling like getting away to Mexico or Hawaii or basically anywhere tropical in the world but you only have an evening to do it you should check out The Deck. It was such a fun little getaway for the evening to sit outside on the river and have a beer and some fish tacos! All of the waitstaff was beyond friendly and fabulous. The owner introduced herself and when she realized it was our first visit she immediately went to the store and brought us all Deck T-shirts on the house! read more

FAMILY FRIENDLY, with great location. We have been going to The Deck since the birth of our first son in 2010, Joyce and Candy have treated our sons like their own. They always have a smile, a hug and always make time for a little conversation. It reminds me of places in San Diego where you can be casual and have a view of the water. Their free toy chest and lollipops are of course my toddler's treat for finishing his meal. The busiest and best times to go is to watch the sailboats come in off the Columbia River. Parking can be a challenge after 7pm, but it is well worth it for a place that treats you like family. The prices for the food are reasonable. Their appetizer menu is great. We usually go for lunch or dinner. The Happy Hour is worth checking out. They are closed during the winter but re-open the weekend after tax day. read more

I am really happy that I went to The Deck without seeing these reviews first. It makes me think that people have never been to marina bars before, because this is the same thing you'll find all over the Caribbean and the Gulf Coast and pretty much anywhere that there are people on boats. This is Portland Oregon, on the Columbia, not far from the airport. If you sail at all, you know that this area is more known for jet-skis and rednecks than high-brow dining. If you want high-brow dining on a marina, go to McCormick and Schmick's in Riverplace, and leave the good view and cold beer to the rest of us. If you want fresh oysters, go to EAT on Williams. If you want to sit on a dock in the summertime with a cold beer and eat tasty fried seafood and burgers, and watch the boats go by, go to the Deck. I had a chili-burger basket and two Pacificos. My sweetheart had the steamer clams with two PBR's. The steamers were great. Not a bad one in the bunch, plenty of garlic and butter,and you get two pounds of them for like $10. My chili-burger was pretty good too. Fries were tasty. My mother in law had the clam basket. It was huge and well-executed. My father-in-law had fried oysters, which he really enjoyed. The shrimp cocktail looks huge and tasty. I didn't try it, but I'm going back soon. PS- oh, I just went out to their website to get directions for a friend. Yeah, the Deck is nothing like how they describe it on their website. I'm now seeing why people were upset. It's not upscale. It is definitely casual with bar food. read more

The Deck is what stands out for me the most... It's certainly what brought me back after having "dined" there on the last week end of their summer season last year with a group of 10 other lesbos, i decided to go back there with my girlfriend and boy was I disappointed in the service!!! The food was/is your basic all American restaurant on the water menu with more seafood options but the poor service really shadowed the decency of their meal! When it's hot out and your seated outside in the sun, it's nice to be served some cold ice water especially when you ask twice for it. I could go on and on about having to not only get up to get those two glasses of water and our ordered cocktails, that were by the way, sitting at the bar waiting to be delivered by anyone to ordering apps, starters and entrees which ALL came out together even those we asked for them to be staged and not just FIRED all at once, but I'm just gonna say that although the Deck is great to sit out on on a beautiful sunny afternoon, the service and the quality of service sucked big time!!! We never knew who was actually OUR server and when we asked we were told that "Oh, we all just kinda help each other out"! I rate higher when my service comes with a smile and a sand pail full of Rum and juice. The Deck is in a great location. (Not for those out of decent health and walking ability. There is a fairly steep ramp down to the marina this time of year and I am not aware of an alternate route.) But it shares space among Marina slips, house boats and a few docking spaces. I love seeing people "parking" their boat for the dinner and boats leaving. It is a cool experience. As I mentioned earlier, they have drinks served in sand buckets. They have Coronaritas which is a margarita with a mini Corona buried upside down in it. There is a gimmicky drink for all tastes. I have seen beer towers, which look like a tall cylinder and I imagine hold a pitcher of your favorite draft. I haven't had anything from the food fare that was not delicious. Shrimp cocktail, onion petals and much much more. It's hard to remember everything I have had. The Deck isn't only about having fun as adults, you can even bring your children. I wouldn't advise letting them see the "Shark Bite" drink. It is bright blue with a splash of red grenadine in it and a great white on the rim of the glass. Very appealing. Service is good. They will even bring the ladies at your table a blanket if the cool from the water in the evening gets to be too much to handle. Please limit your visits to once per year as I don't want this gem to be busy when I go. ;) read more

I wanted to like this place a lot when I got there. The view is awesome a great, somewhat divey floating bar/patio on the Columbia (can't go wrong right?). The wait staff was very nice and the drinks were good. The big issues I had were the price and the quality of food. I felt like my food was frozen from a Costco bag right before making it out to us and the price of it was pretty premium for the quality and portions. All in all I still like the place and would go back, probably just for drinks though. read more

Came in with a big group and was told they couldn't seat us outside. Then after we got seated there was still not enough chairs for the entire group. We broke off to now a party of 3 people. We asked to be seated outside since we got broken off, and it appeared they were just determined to not seat us outside. After speaking with two employees who both said they would check and get back to us. None of them ever confirmed back about seating. Very passive aggressive move. They just brought out the food and refused to acknowledge the request to be seated outside...if there are open seats outside on a good Sunday day and patrons are asking to be seated outside, I don't see the issue in moving people to enjoy the view which is what most people go to this restaurant for.
