We went here for the first time today for a drink and lunch after a longish walk. It's a lovely,…read moreroomy, interior with good quality furnishings and nice decor. There are dining areas at either end at tables of various sizes. Although there were several people dining we still found a quiet and comfortable place to sit. The landlady and her daughter were very pleasant and the younger girl who was serving the meals at the tables was really delightful, so friendly and helpful. My only criticisms are that the landlady forgot to make my coffee (funny that's happened to me in two pubs within a week!) and there was only one vegetarian meal on the menu/specials board, despite a huge choice for the meat eaters. There is a small car park out the front and the toilets are clean and well looked after.

It's a large place, but it's still advisable to book - they have a good reputation now, and often it's difficult to get a table on a Saturday night. The menu offers a good range of food, with something for everyone. They offer good steaks, lamb shanks (lush!), chicken in a range of sauces etc, and there's always something tempting on their specials board. There's a nice atmosphere in the pub, and they don't hurry you away from your table, if you want to sit around and chat over a drink. Families of all ages are welcome as well.

Went for lunch here today - the first time we'd even been inside despite living only 5 miles away…read more We were amazed at how nice it was as most of the other pubs in the area are very poor and I certainly wouldn't recommend them (like The Colliers for instance which has disappointed us in several ways each time we've been there). However the Rolling Mill was very pleasant and welcoming, clean and comfortable. The landlord was friendly, as was the young woman who served at the tables in the dining room. Beers on offer include John Smith's, Brains Dark, Stella Artois, Strongbow and Carlsburg. There's a small area with a wide-screen television beside the bar, with windows over the front of the pub, and a dining room at the back overlooking a beer garden with nice views. (Another room contained a pool table, but we didn't go in there) The dining room was very comfortable, with photos of celebrities who've eaten there. The real surprise was the food; I can honestly say you get more for your money here as the meals are huge - but the prices are no more than in other pubs, indeed less expensive than many. There's a great choice, including several vegetarian dishes. We can personally recommend the veggie curry (£6.25) which comes with rice, or chips, jacket potato, or rice and chips. The evening menu is slightly different, and the Sunday menu varies as well. All in all, a great pub, and one we will be visiting again soon!

There is a large evening menu, and three vegetarian choices which always stay the same (stuffed peppers, tomato pasta and nut bake). Handy for gluten-free diets as many meals are labelled Coeliac-safe. It's a child-friendly pub (like so many now) which suits most people I suppose. However, I have been put off my meal two or three times when small shrieking children have been running about on the bare wooden floors. UPDATE APRIL 2009: We went for lunch there with friends today and I must say we were not impressed. The person behind the bar was not particularly friendly or welcoming. She forgot to bring my coffee for a long time. That was disappointing too - just boring filter coffee (no lattes or cappucinos etc) and only served with some cold milk in a jug - not even cream offered. Later my friend's ordered Coke was completely forgotten about as well! We thought that some of the meals were very overpriced for what we got. I had a tiny baked potato which came with a bit of undressed salad. It was served on a large plate which was half empty. The vegetable lasagne was nearly £9 and was the only vegetarian meal on the lunchtime menu other than the baked potato. Veggie lasagne - one of the most boring meals anyone could offer a vegetarian as we've had so many throughout the years! It was a nice quiet place to sit and talk today but that's the only good thing I can find to say about it. We've decided we don't want to go back, not even in the evening when there's more choice on the menu, because it's just not a friendly atmosphere and the coffee is dreadful.

Unassuming pub looking at it from the outside and quite small too, but the signeage and the big banner promoting their carvery draws you in. Quite a traditional boozer serving local brews plus the odd real ale on tap too (i.e. Greene Kings' IPA). Had the IPA at £2.50 a pint. Quite an extensive food menu, bar meals range from an Engligh breakfast to ham, eggs and chips both starting at around £3.60 ish, then up to the other end of the spectrum with an 8oz sirlion steak at around £8. The average price of a bar meal is £5 say fro a Steak and Guinness pie for example, quite afew of the bar meals ate at this price and ther are at least half a dozen to choose from. As for the afore mentioned carveries they come in at £5 for the large one & £4 for the small one. It is not self service and the food is plated for you. You have a choice of meats with turkey, pork or beef and a range of vegetables. For a more cheaper option should also mention the hot panninis at £3.50. Pub is decorated modestly and is warm and comfortable. With both the staff & locals welcoming enough. Lead to believe they have live music there at the weekends and there are large TV that are wall mounted to display sporting events. Well worth popping in, especially due to its close proximity to the shops & bus station making it very convenient & accessible.
