Great selection of ballet and other dance gear; now in a new location. Helpful staff - very knowledgeable.

I love this place. Okay,so I'm not your " typical…read moredancer",however I have been dancing since I could walk. When I was born,my feet turned inwards toes facing each other.Years of Orthopedic shoes and sleeptime corrective bar -brace therapy and the doctor telling my mom,as soon as she can walk, put her in Ballet class 3 times a week. I hated ballet.I was not naturally graceful, nor did I have the ideal frame to be on pointe. My mom made a deal with me.If I don't complain about the ballet,I can take whatever other dance classes I wanted.Me being a junior wize ass said,ok.I want to take tap, jazz, belly dance,Latham and modern...All the types of classes my dance school offered.Deal.What?Deal. Hence,I spent every day after school and all day Saturday in dance school at every class they offered...This went on until I was 17 and living on my own where I continued to dance ballet and tap at Phil Black Studio in NYC. I have been fortunate enough to have danced professionally in several companies.Over the years and across the US,there is a prevailing prejudice against those who do not fit the prima ballerina ideal when it comes to buying gear like toe shoes and accessories as simple as ballet pink tights. I've actually been ushered out of stores!(I think I have reviewed a place or two). Well,I know long assed segue to this review... The place is a gem!It has everything you need! The folks who own the store are amazing!Even though Ive only been in maybe twice before, they remember me and treat me like family! Well, after over 40 years of ballet,a freak accident in January that I'm still recovering from has grounded me from pointe most likely indefinitely. I have just been cleared to return to dance, just not ballet. So,I'm going to try my luck at Flamenco. I will be going to meet with some independent instructors next week and needed flamenco shoes. I have to say,in my search for instructors in the Bergen County area has been almost impossible, getting the shoes was a piece of cake!!!! On 1 has them!!!!!!!as well as practice skirts!!!!In my size!!!!! And away I go after another phenomenal experience with this shop and even with some instructor recommendations!!!! Wish me luck on my new adventure in dance!!!! Thanks On 1 for raising the barre(see what I did there?) and always treating me with inclusivity!!!!

Maybe ok if you live NEAR the store. Not good for anywhere else. Ordered items May 16th. Wrote…read moreemails to on 1 dancewear, and beyond the barre, TWICE with no reply at all. Asked via Instagram about order on May 21st, was told "we will look into this and let you know". That was 230pm. Went back on to see if they have any info, not a word back!!!!! I had to reach out again, and this time I'm told both emails address are correct for customer service but do NOT WORK (it was the "server" four times). Not great business practice. Then it was looked into, I was placed on hold and immediately whole on hold, a tracking number was created and I was told "this shipped out today" which is a total lie due to my ability to see tracking, and that shipping label was created while on IG asking about my order. I told them to please cancel, that's super shady to do. They kept saying "it shipped, it shipped" checked for two days, tracking number was invalid, nothing ever left them to come to me total lies. Avoid this store and on 1 dancewear unless you like being swindled. Horrible customer service, non working customer service email addresses for both stores, create shipping labels upon asking for an update, and nothing ever shipped. DO NOT BUY ONLINE!!!!! TOTAL DRAMA AND HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! NEVER AGAIN.

I had to buy character shoes and came here…read more As others mentioned, it's beneficial to have several brands sold here (including Bloch and Capezio etc.). The prices are very fair and they even had some shoes on clearance. Character shoes seemed to range from $40-$80. I received very friendly customer service and I was appreciative of the help and advice. One thing I really liked is that they did not try to rush me or force me to choose quickly. They also did not try to push me into buying the more expensive option. Instead, they offered to put shoes on hold for me so that I could think about it and come back if I needed to since I was in between two styles. Another thing I liked is that they had a wood floor inserted into the room with a ballet barre so that people can properly get the feel of a shoe on a dance floor. They also have a bathroom which is always nice. Overall, I highly recommend this dance store! It is so refreshing to find a good one with friendly employees, fair prices, and a wide selection.

I heard a weird fat shaming comment from a worker there (not towards me personally), but overall the staff has been very friendly and knowledgeable. I have not seen this worker since so maybe they're no longer there. However, I had to remove a star for sizing; more sizes would be nice that fit longer-torso dancers. I also wish they'd stock another brand of tights since I'm not fond of capezio brand, but I'm not sure- maybe this has been updated since I've been.
