Heck, they should have paid ME to attend the performance! This performance of the Nutcracker is advertised as the "longest performing Nutcracker in Chicago." With "acclaimed guest artists" and "special effects". At less than half the cost of a ticket to the Joffrey, I knew it wasn't going to be as spectacular. I knew they wouldn't have an orchestra, but man, I could have never predicted it being so terrible. The play was supposed to start at 7:00, but then started at 7:30. I was suspicious right from the start with the announcer, who made it sound like a circus performance with a loud, "Welllllllcome ladies and gentlemen to Ballet Legere's performance... of... the... Nutcracker!!!" The audience hooped and hollered. Like who cheers like this is a stadium game at a ballet?! I later realized, most of the audience was just parents and relatives. The first act was only a half an hour, with appended versions of the songs. Almost all performers were young kids or teens, who didn't have much talent. It was a kid's play. There were literally two adult dancers, who were decent, but couldn't make up for everything else. Costumes were to be desired: the dresses were really long, and you couldn't see the dancer's legs. Call it modest or call it what you want, I think they didn't wear the traditional tutus because they wanted to hide the mistakes in the dancing. About the only good thing was the auditorium, which was in decent shape. Parking was also good, and free! But that's beside the point to this review. The performance totally ruined my boyfriend and I's Saturday night. He agreed, it was awful. After the performance, I tried calling Ballet Legere to request a refund. The lady on the phone seemed confused, and said, "Uhhh I don't know if we can do that." I explained my disappointment and asked again, at which point I got more floundering, and then was hung up on. I called right back, thinking this was a mistake, then no one picked up. I left a voicemail. No one returned my call. I am working it out with the credit card company to get my money back. I wish there had been a review out there so that I could have known before purchasing tickets. I hope this provides that for you, my fellow yelper!

Our 5 year old started nearly 2.5 years ago and we have been very happy with the program and what she has learned. She is not a dance pro but has basics down and still wants to go to class. She is super excited about her big show each year and is confident on a HUGE stage and being in front of people. She feels important and feels proud. I went to college with many ex dancers and have heard how awful balet can be and Gus has ballerina looking kids, smaller kids, bigger kids, boys who can dance, boys who can't dance and all kinds of kids all having fun. Her teachers Nicole Weingarten, Lauren and Amy have all been so sweet and amazing. I just cannot say enough about how thankful I am that they are in Andersonville and part of our community. I am not a person who intrinsically trusts people's intentions and I have made the mistake in the past of thinking nice people cannot really be that nice but these people really are. I have been late to pick up and they are amazingly nice. I am on the board for our school and they support our local school. These people are good even when they don't have to be. I appreciate them as a place that teaches children, as a local business and as a community member.

The teacher had the kids sign a contract about commitment, teamwork etc (cool!) my daughter took it super seriously bc she's like that. The teacher himself then proceeded to come late or not show up at class at all (no notice or group txt would even come from dovetail after the fact- we just show up and it would empty the majority of times. After months of this they gave us a $100 credit and 1 email about it. They transitioned it to a new teacher who was really dependable. They told my daughter they "thought we would place in top 10, like 6 or Better." My daughter is type of person who latches onto that so when they didn't place, she felt it more Than needed. It was clear her time at park district (McFeteridge) brought out waaaaay more talent and she grew waaaay more there and with very strong routines. Great artistry from Dovetail tho. Teachers were nice. They txtd us during paid sessions they wanted to walk the kids to 7-11 instead of class time. The other families were nice and we vibed with them- not competitive etc. did pizza with them couple times over year. my wife took a class at dovetail for adults and loved it. My daughter had classes (not completion) that went well and she really loved all the teachers.

Fun class with Julia. Signed up for last minute Cardio +Tone class on Wed morning. I found street…read moreparking nearby. Studio is super clean, colorful and groovy. Once inside you have to walk up to the second floor. Dance studio for class was big and spacious. It was one of three different studios. This space is huge. Class started with warm-up which got your blood flowing. Warmup included pushups so grab floor mat if not keen on doing them on hard wooden floor. Dance class was tough. Prior dance experience is needed. You don't have to be a professional but need to be able to pick-up choreography quick. Sometimes you will learn (2) 8 counts together and then move on very quickly. The style of dance seemed like Jazz, Theater and Pop. I liked it but I usually dance hip-hop, latin or African. It was a change of pace but Julia made it super fun. With this particular routine there was a plank portion, I skipped it because I just didn feel like it. Julia prepared me that the routine did include this in an 8 count. I just added some bodyrolls and called it a day. Most of the people in class seemed to be regulars. Everyone was friendly. After 44 mins of dancing, we finished with some toning that included an arm song. After putting light weights down, Julia stretched us to the max. THANK GOODNESS I would come back and groove some more. I honestly just wanted to delay working on a memo so thats why I signed up on Class Pass at last minute.
