My children sing their little dance songs and I see them practice "their moves" all of the time. My son (6) and daughter (5) have found something for each! She brings so much positive energy to her classes. Maya is always focused on the good while encouraging her class to try new moves. My son is in awe of her breakdancing moves! We have also had one class with Tiffany. She was great. My son's age group class did not run so he was offered a spot in a younger class. I was a bit apprehensive about him being older than the other dancers. But Tiffany did a wonderful job working with him at his level. She had positive interactions with her class. I have found nothing negative about classes with Design Dance! You can't beat the convenient locations or the price. I also appreciate the way Liz handles things. She is very quick to respond to a phone call or email. Above all it is plain to see that everyone at Design Dance loves dance and is excited to share that love with children. It is something my 8 year old looks forward to each week and I am very thankful that Design Dance offers such a great experience for him! :)

The classes are priced similarly to other adult drop-in classes in the area. The studio is spacious and welcoming with incredibly clean studios and tidy bathrooms. We were greeted warmly by reception when we walked in. The class itself was not my favorite. Their classes are only an hour long rather than the traditional 90 minutes. Our teacher also did not teach this class at a beginner level. It was definitely more intermediate. Many students in the class were struggling to keep up, so it was frustrating that the teacher did not adapt instruction. My friend did ballet for 15 years growing up and even she was struggling to keep up in this class. If you are new to the studio, it might be worth calling to ask about levels. I wish I had, as the class was too hard to be enjoyable for me. Overall, I would like to try another class here, but I will either wait until a different teacher is available for beginner ballet or I will come back in a few years when I'm at more of an intermediate level.

When I moved to Edgewater last year, I researched Joel Hall, but again, discouraged myself from going. And now I am kicking myself that it took me 13 whole months to get my butt out of the house and into the studio. I went for the first time recently, and I don't mean to be dramatic, but it has already changed my life. From the first class I felt welcomed, encouraged, and assisted. When they say this studio is diverse, it's not just a line. There is every race, gender, age, and skill level represented in all of the classes I have been to. And yet, it still felt like one cohesive group working together. I never felt judged by a teacher, or more talented student, and when I say I am a novice, that is not humility in anyway. The positive energy that streams from the staff, to the teachers, to the students is palpable. I only wish I could do more to support their amazing work, because I am so excited to continue going and join the family that this studio has created.

I entered the studio everybody was so nice from the first minute that I attended classes there everyday 3 weeks long! The teachers are all really professional and push you to your limits, but still they are strict in a caring way and motivate you to keep on working! Joel Hall himself still teaches classes and I attended his Jazz Dance Method, which is really hard work! He himself said: "We're gonna kill you, but you're gonna love it." and that's just the way it is! You develop such an ambition that you keep on stretching and tightening your tummy and it's the best work out you can get! The Jazz, Modern and HipHop classes with Will Gill were absolutely wonderful too! I always did 2 classes in a row, although I was already soaking wet, but he keeps making you want to dance more and more! I can recommend this Dance Center to really everybody! No other dance studio in Chicago makes you feel at home so quickly and every class is worth attending because I've never learned so much technique and also feeling for dancing and music before than I did in this 3 weeks at Joel Hall! I'm gonna miss it in Austria! I hope I'll come back soon!

My now-husband and I used Chicago Dance for choreography for our first dance at our wedding. We met…read morewith Sam for our consultation and talked her through our experience level (limited), some constraints (my husband is deaf with cochlear implants), and our expectations for what we wanted to get out of the sessions. While Sam had her work cut out for her with us, she never let her cards show and was 100% patient and kind throughout ever lesson. We ended up purchasing 8 sessions leading up to the wedding and we HIGHLY recommend Chicago Dance and Sam, specifically! The options are endless: whether you want to just learn some different dance types and be able to use those lessons to freestyle or if you want 100% choreography... Chicago Dance is the way to go. A couple highlights. 1. Sam was energetic and excited to try all kinds of new steps / tricks and she made us willing participants. She also valued our feedback and ensured that we were confident in what we were doing. She incorporated more of the steps/moves we enjoyed and flexed if we were not comfortable with anything. We laughed a lot playing around with new successful and totally unsuccessful attempts at tricks. Given our experience level, I was so impressed with her ability to articulate feedback and say the right things to make anything "complicated" seem simple and feasible! 2. We started looking forward to our dance lessons. Considering this was still in the middle of COVID, aside from dinner dates, we had not really done much in the way of date nights. We ended up loving our lessons and looking forward to these "date nights" as we were having so much fun and felt like it was driving more connection. 3. We were torn about which song to dance to. For the first two lessons, we ended up learning waltz basics and started learning choreography to one song. We were practicing at home one day and decided to try with a different song, and fell in love. Sam quickly jumped into action helping us play with the different types of dance we can incorporate into the new song. She cut the music based on my suggestions seamlessly. No joke - she provided full service.

Our class was in studio #5. The sound system was good. Unsure if I loved the floors, but they worked good for this class. Ample spacing for our class which had nearly 2 dozen participants. The space it self is really comprehensive. I saw multiple bathrooms and a gender-neutral bathroom. There is at least 5 separate dance spaces. Each space was arranged depending on dance style. I saw a room with several barre. The general area also boosted several areas to just chill while waiting on a loved to finish a class. On this day...all the kiddos were taking classes. So many little one excited to take their dance classes. It was cute because this little girl kep staring at our class through the window. Highly recommend seeing all the offerings at this dance center. I was surprised by the many offerings they have. I want to try a beginner hip-hop but we will see. Tip: Parking is located around the building on street. Mostly free but get there with time to look. I found it easier to just park off Belmont and walk.
