The space is beautiful and the staff is friendly and personable. The owners get to know you by first name which puts such a nice personal touch on a workout place. My favorite is 'kickin it cardio' at 6:15 am with Kate. She truly gets you sweating before seven and you just feel great and toned. I also like barre fit on Monday night, it is a great change to my typical workouts. I highly recommend checking out this place!

The teacher had the kids sign a contract about commitment, teamwork etc (cool!) my daughter took it super seriously bc she's like that. The teacher himself then proceeded to come late or not show up at class at all (no notice or group txt would even come from dovetail after the fact- we just show up and it would empty the majority of times. After months of this they gave us a $100 credit and 1 email about it. They transitioned it to a new teacher who was really dependable. They told my daughter they "thought we would place in top 10, like 6 or Better." My daughter is type of person who latches onto that so when they didn't place, she felt it more Than needed. It was clear her time at park district (McFeteridge) brought out waaaaay more talent and she grew waaaay more there and with very strong routines. Great artistry from Dovetail tho. Teachers were nice. They txtd us during paid sessions they wanted to walk the kids to 7-11 instead of class time. The other families were nice and we vibed with them- not competitive etc. did pizza with them couple times over year. my wife took a class at dovetail for adults and loved it. My daughter had classes (not completion) that went well and she really loved all the teachers.

Even though I loved dance and had no fear of performing, the one that always made me feel uncoordinated and self-conscious was any sort of unscripted booty shaking in front of others. It's still rare that you'll finding me dancing with reckless abandon outside the confines of my home unless there are serious amounts of booze involved. Until now that is. I entered the DDPP studio full of excitement and trepidation, still unsure if I could really let loose in a room full of strangers without some liquid courage. All my nervousness quickly melted away as I saw women of all ages, colors, shapes and sizes filter into the studio; the veterans full of excitement and positive energy. I paid my $5 and figured that worst that could happen was that I'd give a room full of mostly strangers some comic relief. As has been mentioned before, the studio is nothing fancy, but for this it really doesn't need to be. There are a few mirrors, some rope lights along the floor and a light machine. The music is courtesy of guest DJ's, not pros, but fellow DDPP'ers; you only need to attend once before becoming one. There aren't many rules to DDPP, but the two key ones are no judgment of yourself or others and no talking (singing along is ok). I'm still working on that first rule; I was truly wowed by the other ladies in the room and silently quite critical of my own, but the dimmed lights helped me work on my inhibition. A warm up and cool down song sandwich the non-stop dance party. You can move with as much intensity as you like, but it's hard not to get caught up in the infectious energy in the room. As far as apparel is concerned, anything goes. However, I would strongly suggest layers and breathable fabrics, leave the denim at home but defo bring a water bottle and maybe even a hand towel. I consider myself to be in decent shape and it wasn't long before I was crazy sweaty and a touch winded. If you're looking to work out some emotions, burn some calories or simply get your grove on, you've got to try it - it probably will cost you less than some fancy Starbucks drink. I may never convince myself that I look any better than Elaine Benes on the dance floor, but I'm working on not caring.

It was so fun and gave my now husband and I a reprieve from all the other wedding day stress! Our first dance went from the thing that I was most scared of, to the thing I was most excited about. My husband says it was his favorite part of the wedding and he is not a dancer!! We cannot thank you enough Juanita!

We had Initial Consultation with 2 other local studios that provide similar "first dance" programs. Juanita's priced are extremely competitive, and she came high recommended from our wedding planner. We decided to take a chance on the Initial Consultation 3 months before the wedding, and I'm so glad we did. I'm a slow learner, and had very low expectations of what could be accomplished in 10 weeks. At the initial consultation, it was clear that we made the right choice. Her questions were thoughtful - got us to think about what we wanted, and what was really possible. No "cookie cutter program," she was going to build a plan just for us. She got through her questions, and then got us dancing. Before we knew it, our 45 minutes was up. So much fun...I didn't expect that dance lesson could actually be enjoyable! No hard sell from Juanita, like we experienced from other studios - but once I heard the price for the 10-pack of lessons, I was sold. Juanita "raised the bar" for what was possible, choreographing a first dance that was far more challenging than I believed was attainable. Each week, step by step, she led us through the learning process. She started with the basics, and gradually adding complexity throughout the 10 week program. Her energy (Juanita is SO MUCH FUN!) and positivity made us look forward to each lesson, and her encouragement got us through the learning process. The weekly "videos" Juanita posted from our lessons were really helpful, making our practice time much more valuable. The detailed outline of the choreography she shared with us helped as well, ensuring we were practicing the right thing based on the overall plan. After 8 weeks, we had the entire routine down. The dress rehearsal at the studio gave us the confidence we needed going into the big day. Her depth and breadth of experience became obvious when we hit the "tough" parts. She knew exactly what to say / do to get us "unstuck," and even made changes to the routine to simplify parts that were just too tough for us. In the end, our family and friends were so surprised that our first dance was more than just "The Sway." Incredible value - one of the best decisions in our wedding experience.

Because it's BYOB you'll get the 20-somethings that feel they have to get loaded beforehand and then act the fool while attending (do you hear that "Neil"? No one wants the focus on you acting like it was your first experience with alcohol) but Aaron was skilled at bypassing them without causing tension or escalating bad behavior. Aaron's attitude is one of someone who has worked hard to make this little venture work, and he deserves respect and recognition for his obvious commitment and work ethic. His act included variations of tricks performed by other magicians, with his own twists. He is an expert at sleight of hand and distraction, which is considerably more difficult in a room about the size of an average residential living-room. He had an appropriate sense of humor aligned with an audience coming to Boystown, an overtly gay neighborhood in Chicago (if you're not familiar). However he wasn't garish, flaming, flamboyant, or offensive; he managed a perfect balance of innuendo humor and audience engagement without being cheap or ingenuine. The snarky one-liners will likely go over your young kids' heads (although bring them to an early show, your 9 year old doesn't belong in Boystown at 10 pm on a weekend), and he carries himself with class avoiding the use of profanity or graphic terms. Again, I can't overstate that his tricks were amazing, impressive, and captivating - as magic should be. You leave the show shaking your head and wondering how it's done - which truly makes it "magic". You would be hard-pressed to spend $36.36/person for an hour of live entertainment that can match Aaron's performance. Pro-tip: If you're driving there you will need to use an app to reserve parking, as there aren't garages like downtown Chicago and every street is filled with so many signs there's no way you will return and find your car not-towed or not-ticketed. Chicago does this on purpose to generate revenue; you'll see "street cleaning" on Tuesday from xx hour to xx hour, no parking when snow is over 2 inches OR any time from Dec 1 through April 1, loading zone, 15 minute stopping/standing with flashers, no parking, residential permit zone only, bike lanes, bus stop restrictions, etc. If you find street parking and think you've beaten the system, think again. Nobel Prize Laureates, Rhodes Scholars, Ivy League PhDs, Mensa members - you can meet them all at Chicago Central Auto Pound retrieving their vehicles. Stephen Hawking couldn't drive, but if he could and he parked in that neighborhood all the quantum mechanics in the world wouldn't make his towed car reappear from the Chicago Parking space-time continuum. The nice thing is if you do reserve parking and give yourself enough time you can walk to many, many restaurants and bars in the area that are open even after the 10 pm show ends. Thank you Aaron for a wonderful experience, you made my wife's birthday memorable for both of us.
