I moved to Indianapolis, and in addition to finding a new primary care physician, dentist, manicurist and hairstylist, I was also looking for a great space for STI testing and general sexual health care. After hearing good things, I decided to visit the Damien Center, and while my experience wasn't quite what I expected, I can still see the value this organization brings to the community. The staff at the Damien Center were friendly and welcoming. After filling out some paperwork, I met with a clinician who reviewed my information. Unfortunately, because I'm already on Descovy, they were unable to assist me with STI testing due to their protocols. While this was a bit disappointing, I appreciated their transparency and professionalism. They immediately referred me to the Bell Flower Clinic for the services I needed, which I appreciated, though I left feeling a little dejected. I do think their website could be clearer about what services are available to potential clients in different situations, as it would help manage expectations before visiting. That said, I'm still interested in exploring several of the other services they offer. Overall, the Damien Center seems like an organization with a lot to offer, and I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a caring and welcoming environment. read more

I tried to go there today since they offer free testing. They advertise it being open to walk-ins 10-12 on Fridays. I went around 10:45 and tried every single door and all of them were locked, no one waiting to let you in. I hate writing this review because I really thought they were here to support the community but it turns out they are not. Ended up having to go somewhere else because of the Damien Center not being open during their normal hours with no signs or website updates to indicate they were closed. read more

Do you know what The Damien Center does?! They help treat and prevent HIV and AIDS in Indiana. Their building is located a few miles east of the circle and they have some very kind employees. Here's some of their services they offer: - Testing - Information about HIV/AIDS - A downstairs clinic - Counseling - Support groups - ...and even more! They also have a big event called 'Dining Out for Life' in which they encourage the community to eat at the participating restaurants (there's great choices) and then the proceeds go back to The Damien Center. I have to be honest, I never thought I would 'need' the Damien Center, so until I did, I had only heard about the great things they do, but didn't pay much attention to how what they do save the lives of so many people from all walks of life. Of course I knew they helped hiv + homeless men and women who had no help otherwise, but that wasn't really my world so I just didn't think about it. But it wasn't until my own adult son was diagnosed as HIV +, that I realized how meaningful their work really was and how absolutely necessary it was. The first thing I noticed was that the down and out and the highly successful all sat in the same waiting room an d received the same excellent help. There is truly no judgement. We were scared but the counselor walked us through all the steps needed for treatment, he gave us help for financial needs and all of tests and checkups are done right there. We left there with an action plan, eased fears, and hope. I am extremely grateful for the Damien Center. When I was growing up, HIV was a death sentence, so of course that was right where my mind went. They corrected my thought process, and explained to my son how to keep himself healthy. If you can offer your time to any organization, this is one of the best ones to volunteer at. read more

Who doesn't love being responsible and it all being free while doing so? The Damien Center offers free care to many different clients, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. I come here for free testing for HIV and STIs. The staff / volunteers are very friendly and welcoming. No judgment zones. It's a fairly easy and painless process, just lots of paperwork (for legal and health purposes). Remember that it is a nonprofit org so their resources are limited and shouldn't be taken advantage of. To get to the testing area, it's a bit confusing but just follow the signs after you walk in the main doors (up the stairs) and you'll be fine. Be on the lookout cause I was told today that it was changing again to be put on the main level. The Damien Center truly cares about your health and the way your results turn out. I feel safe and comfortable when I'm there. You have the options to deny some services. A great org that provides necessary services to anyone! read more

Taking the Yelp non profit challenge to write about an organization that's close to my heart. I first heard about the Damien center when I was a junior at IUPUI through their dining out for life event where ton of restaurants from around the Indianapolis area will donate part of their earnings for the night to Damien Center, as well as encourage patrons to donate separately. I was a volunteer for this event in 2015 and now that I live in Indianapolis again I am looking forward to working with them again. Recently I have also worked with the Damien Center to create an HIV awareness event for the IU school of medicine. The Damien center has always been very active in the community and their goal is a noble one- to eradicate HIV in Indiana. Considering this is AIDS awareness month I feel it is only fitting to review them and bring this amazing organization to everyone's attention. Not only do they provide free and confidential STI and HIV testing but they also provide mental health counseling, which we all know is extremely important, especially for people dealing with HIV and the stigma that often comes with it. They do a lot out reach events so if you want to bring awareness to this cause definitely reach out to them because they are amazing to work with and are very flexible and helpful. I'm hoping that soon I can work with them to bring free and confidential testing to the IU school of medicine campus as well. read more
