we were in Athens on other business and drove past The Dairy Barn on our way home. It was too late to try it out at that time so we returned another day and do not regret a thing! It was wonderful. Felt the prices were very reasonable and their servings were pretty good size. We had their soft serve ice cream. It was delicious and creamy and we loved it. The staff was great, friendly and efficient. They were taking orders and getting them out like pros. We would whole heartily recommend you give them a try. The milk shake options were impressive and I was surprised at the number of options for flavors which I estimate was more than 25 so you have a lot of choices and should find something you will enjoy. If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. I ordered a birthday cake milkshake and it was barely mixed. It looked liked they scooped the ice cream in and poured milk on it and served it. I've never gotten the overzealous love for this place. I'm talking, people will block the roadway lining up to pull into the parking lot. Maybe it's the nostalgia that you can only get it 8 months out of the year because they close for winter or it's just a staple in the community. In my opinion, they leave much to the imagination. As I mentioned, they have plenty of parking but this place can get really crowded, especially on a weekend. Be prepared to wait to order and then be prepared to wait for your order. Patio seating is limited and you better grab a table when you see it. I've also noticed people bring their kids and don't pay a bit of attention to them, leaving them to throw rocks and run around. The owners have put up signs asking kids not to throw rocks so obviously it's been a problem for awhile. Their menu is huge with lots of different varieties of ice creams, toppings, desserts, and snack bar type food. The ice cream is basic, although there are plenty of ways to order and different toppings, it's still just basic ice cream. They do offer several dip cone flavors which is hard to find. Their snack bar type food has no flavor and is very basic so be sure to ask for salt and ketchup. For the quality, it is a little pricey. Their service is always great, they do well with the crowd, and everyone is always friendly. They also keep the place very clean and take pride in their appearance as I've noticed they freshen the place up and plant new flowers every season. I'm glad they're here in Athens because it gives people a fun place to gather and make memories. read more

We stopped by this place on our way to the mountains on a recommendation from a friend that frequents the route. I have to say that I was rather disappointed. Although this place is quite popular, I didn't enjoy my milkshake. I opted to try the strawberry cheesecake flavor (typically always my favorite) but was surprised to find that it tasted artificial and bland. In fact, it barely resembled the taste of a strawberry let alone strawberry cheesecake. However, I will mention that both of my travel mates ordered some type of chocolate confection and thought it very delicious.
