So, I did bring my bike for a Tune up, which include cleaning chain and look at the derailleur, for 80$. I did bring it specifically for my problem with the front derailleur... the following week, after changing the speeddismounted once, not working and the chain got dismount twice...at the end, I did fix it myself. So after that, instead of letting them install my back break caliper as they told it I had to change, I did go pick it up to install it myself... So, thanks for installing new break pads on the old caliper that you order to be changed while the new caliper come with break pad.....plus the old caliper....just needed some cleanup. I bought my mountain bike with a warranty years ago and have been servicing it annually with them since then. Their staff are knowledgeable and super friendly. I've always received amazing customer service, they do their best to accommodate my requests! I highly recommend! read more

Appreciated being serviced same day for a flat tire. Unfortunately they somehow messed with the derailleur and I had to take the bike back the next day. The staff said that the derailleur needed to be replaced. I just asked for the bike back, took it home and ended up being able to fix the problem myself. Bit of extra work and driving around for me. Not a huge deal but I'm sure it could have been avoided had they quality tested the bike after doing the repair. I'll probably try a couple other shops before I consider going back here again. read more

It's Not the Best Place to Buy a Bicycle. Recently, bought a bicycle at The Cyclery. All the staff member did was adjust the seat for my height. This definitely wasn't a proper fitting for a bicycle store. Staff didn't bother to explain anything to me about my expensive purchase. For instance, how the bicycle works (shifting, braking, maintenance and / or general care). Even though the store had already been open for at least an hour that day, staff manning the cash register were standing idle and basically doing absolutely nothing. There were no other customers in the store during my visit. Looking around at the regular priced merchandise on display, many products didn't even have a price tag. This store, which is fairly large, isn't well-managed or operated. Some staff don't do anything to help assist their customers and it seems that many employees have very little (or no) knowledge about the products being sold there. There are plenty of better bike stores in Ottawa, where the staff are enthusiastic, helpful and knowledgeable about their merchandise. In my opinion, this store is only interested in making maximum profits without providing any quality services to customer. read more

DISHONORABLE RETURN POLICY Bought and paid over the phone for a 1900$ bike trainer. Changed my mind within 7 days before even picking the item up, {trainer is still in box at shop} and contacted the owner, Vince, to cancel the sale. Despite clear online black and white policies for refund within 30 days, the owner refused to honour any of it and instead, after many sighs and a ridiculous narrative of shame and blame justifications, would only offer us an exchange? Note this trainer is in very high demand and finally arrived to canada after months of b.o. All bike shops i had contacted have a long list of customers hoping to get one. Reviews are not getting any better my friends. Not what i call in any way good customer service. We should have stuck with The Bike Shop (central) in calgary that offers a fantastic customer service, much better pricing, free shipping, and will bend over backwards to satisfy your experience with them. As for the Cyclery, unless they review their very bad business model and start adding value to the shopping satisfaction of their customers, they certainly lost us too and all of our biker friends for future purchases. Not worth the hassle, the patronizing attitude and the risk. UPDATE the next morning, we were fully refunded by very kind respectful and professional Kim, no questions asked. Stopped in for an equipment check on my bike and two mechanics would not look up or take a second from what they were doing and let the H.S./co-op kid look at my bike. The kid - no slight on him but he might learn some BAD HABITS - had to call out twice - across the floors -to another mechanic who sitting on his a$$ and munching on his sandwich. He did not get up for this "teachable moment". The diagnosis he called out from his chair where he couldn't see my wheel spinning was wrong as well. I knew this and had it confirmed at a reputable shop I frequent - I was just in the neighborhood and thought I'd give them a chance. Have never been served well here when I stopped in. I get the same consensus from other riders i.e. unless you know the owner, or bought a 2K+ bike from them they act like snobs. That's no way to run a shop and I can't justify ordering or working with them on any projects. read more

I'm not a biker myself, but I came in here with my cousin who was embarking on a 4,000 km journey for charity on his bicycle, and he needed a major tuneup. Needless to say, they did the trick here. We dropped off the bike at 11am, and picked it up at around 3pm. The bike was not only tuned-up, with his brakes fixed and his tires refurbished, but it was also a heck of a lot cleaner! The price was an industry standard $80, and the owner who we dealt with was really helpful, easygoing, and friendly. My cousin was definitely satisfied. read more

After a few months of research I had decided on which bike model I was ready to get. There were a few shops in the Ottawa area that had the make/model I wanted, and after visiting the others. These guy's were the only ones who were willing to assemble 2 different sizes for me to test drive. Needless to say, after a few rides and proper fitting, I bought the bike I wanted. Since then (it's been a year since last April) I had to bring it in 2 times for some minor adjustments , each time I was greeted rather quickly and out the door in 30 minutes or less. Now, I understand the store can be intimidating for the casual cyclist, there are a lot of people out there who feel ignored, or feel their questions are stupid. My advice to you is this....after a minute or 2 don't be shy to approach staff and say "hi, you got a minute?' I have a question?' 9 times out of 10 someone will tell you they'll get back to you in a sec, or flag down a co-worker to give you a hand. read more

I walk into this store looking to buy parts for my track bike. Not one person ever bothered to provide me with any assistance. I decided to approach one of the sales staff who decided to go the other direction. Another sales staff decided to ignore me just as I was about to ask a question. This happened, not once, but twice, with the same individual! I'ved been told they are not the nicest people unless you are coming in to 'spend $2000 on a bike,' as one individual had said about this store. This is the second time I have been to this. The first time was just the same... just ignore you. If I could give this shop a zero I would, but the site requires that you atleast give 1 star, which the people at this store don't deserve. read more

I live in the neighborhood have 4 very expensive bikes and each time I went to buy one I went to the shop. I was either ignored or treated badly. Cyclery riders also Seen in the gats yelling at people not apparently following secret rules that we who just want to enjoy a Sunday ride don't know about . It's a shame that they don't know how to do customer service, because between the selection, location, and stores atmosphere, they really could hit it out of the park with good customer service. I live in the the neighbourhood and while I have never purchased a bike at the Cyclery I have done quite a bit of business with them on parts, clothing and service. I've read previous scathing reviews of the place and they just don't deserve it. I signed up with Yelp just to leave this review. It's a neighbourhood bike shop and so it's not perfect. During surge hours on in-season Saturdays they can get busy and sometimes it's hard to get a staffer's attention. Yeesh...this happens in the best of places. Relax. Most times I go I get asked many times if I've been helped. If I'm browsing it can almost be annoying. The biggest problems I've had with the place in the past were around a snotty mechanic. For example, the year before last I went in to get some snazzy road wheels built up and the guy refused to install allow nipples because he said that "it was a stupid place to try to save weight". I've been riding and wrenching for thirty years and never had an allow nipple failure and besides, I'm the customer. So I had to have them built elsewhere. Ergo the 4/5 stars. I think the guy is now gone though. The customer service is actually good. For example, I recently bought latex tubes on a lark and was told that if I had a problem with fit they'd take them back because "they'd find a customer for them". Also, over the winter I had a hard time installing a tight trainer tire and they did it for me on the spot without charge. Two years ago I updated my vintage Merlin Ti bike with Dura Ace. I bought neither the frame nor the group set from them, and I installed all the parts myself. But I had a problem with the tricky Dura Ace front derailleur and they adjusted it for me, again without charge. Can you really ask for more than that????? I highly recommend The Cyclery. read more

When I took my Batavus Dutch city bike in for service to the Cyclery last spring they returned the bike broken. I bought the bike in Holland and brought it with me when I moved to Canada and I was horrified to find that when I picked the bike up from being serviced the gear guard was taped together with transparent Scotch tape!! For nearly a full year I have been contacting them to have the bike fixed but they have continued to either ignore my emails or say they will do something about it but months pass by and I hear nothing from them. The worst part of the extremely poor customer services I have received throughout this year was that when I picked the bike up they dismissed my concerns as if I was being unreasonable and that it was not a big deal that the gear guard was broken and taped together with Scotch tape! When I picked the bike up the owner explained that his staff member had dropped the gear guard and broken it and they would order a new one but then I did not hear anything back from him the whole summer! By October 2019 I wrote to the owner reminding him of his promised to replace the piece and mend the bike. He wrote back saying he would look into it and if I could send him the model, year and serial number he would "hope to have a response by the end of the day tomorrow" -  I sent the information he requested but did not hear back from him for 5 months! At that point (March 2020) I wrote back inquiring about the progress of ordering the new gear guard and received a response that someone would "look into what the issue is and what we can do for you" but that this would not happen "for at least two weeks as we have been required to close shop by the provincial government. I will contact you once we reopen."  To my surprise I found when passing by the Cyclery today (1st of April) that they are actually open for services but they have not been bothered to get in touch! I have never experienced a business as dismissive of its customer and uninterested in correcting a mistake they've made as the Cyclery. Needless to say I will be taking our bikes to other service providers in the future and I would not recommend the Cyclery as a place that looks after its customers. read more

I walked into the store 4 times, trying to get some help. No one seemed interested in helping. From the looks of it, there was a lot of selection, but with no customer service, I don't see the point. Also, there are two stores a minute apart from each other. Yelp has this store listed on the wrong address, and I'm worried that the bike shop north of Sunnyside on Bank is losing out on customers because of the generally low reviews. (They on the other hand were great, and I bought my bike from them). The address for this store is 1115 Bank Street, and they are south of Sunnyside on Bank. read more

I'm only giving the a three-star for now because we haven't purchased a bike yet. We are looking at two cyclecross bikes, so we went here. We were approached twice for help, and then we settled on an older gentleman who was very helpful and informative. We still haven't haven't decided what to buy, but we'll consider going back. read more

The best service! I went in today with a broken cycling shoe and right away 2 employees helped me out. They replaced the 2 missing parts holding the cleat in place, made sure both cleats were nice and tight and oh. . . Didn't even charge me a penny. Will definitely come back for my future cycling needs. read more

I was just looking up the address of this business when I came across some very negative reviews. I guess it's the nature of the Internet that people have their own agenda but my wife and I have visited the store perhaps 20 times for bike and cross country and have always received courteous service from knowledgable people I don't understand what these people giving very bad reviews are seeing. read more

Management here is terrible. I live above the store and while I parked in their parking lot to move my stuff into my apartment I received a parking ticket. Not only was the gentleman rude to me, but while I was trying to explain to him the situation and that I was unable to park on Bank St to move my stuff in, he decided to walk away from me mid conversation. read more

have been looking around for a new bike for some time now and it can be scary how much people tell you to spend! I went to see these guys and they were really helpful in making sure I got what I needed and I felt good knowing they didn't push me to spend more! especially since they had stuff from $1k to over 10K! Now just gotta wait for the spring but man I'm happy!!! read more
