I was in Ottawa for the Tamarack Half and bought a pair of socks at the Bushtukah expo booth. When I got back to my hotel room, I found that there was only one sock in the package (I suspect the other was used as the model on display) I though I'd learned a lesson about checking before buying anything, but figured there was no downside in writing an email to the store, thinking that maybe someone would be coming downtown for the race and could drop the missing sock off at the hotel. They mailed me a pair along with some extra goodies for the inconvenience. It's a level of service I never expected. Bushtukah certainly demonstrated their mission to provide unparalleled customer service. They've made me a fan for life. I wish they had a store less than 3,500 kms away from Calgary. read more

Bushtakah Kanata/Stittsville has a great selection of outdoor recreational gear. I was looking for a new tent and saw one on sale for a great price. I called the store and was told that I had just missed the sale by a day. Rats! Lynn told me she would speak to her manager and they honoured the sale price. Thanks to Lynn, I have a great new tent that replaces my over 40 year old 2 person tent at a great price and it is less than half the weight of the old tent. Ok, so first off, I am reviewing this store exclusively for their clothing. I am not the outdoorsy type and when people ask me if I want to go camping, my response is to stare at them blankly and say "uh, and where am I supposed to plug in my hair dryer and flat iron?" So needless to say, I have no interest in canoes, tents, or mountain bikes, but I do love clothes. As a self-proclaimed fashionista, I used to avoid "active lifestyle clothes" because such terms brought to mind Lands' End and LL Bean circa 1990. However, brands like Toad and Co. (formerly called Horny Toad - I am so grateful for the name change, you try going into a store and asking them if they carry Horny Toad with a straight face!), Lole and Prana have come up with a way to make clothes comfortable, easy to pack, AND fashionable. Bushtukah carries these brands (and also FIG from Montreal), and at the end of the season they are marked down significantly. I bought a pair of Lole capris for $19 there once! Staff there are super nice. They always ask me if they can help me, even as I walk in with high heels and a wiggle dress (i.e. not looking like their target demographic). So you don't have to be an outdoor adventurer to find something you like here :) read more

I bought a nice commuter bike here before the pandemic, great sale and service. Good selection of bikes and accessories.

They don't update their website. As a result, you may very well order merchandise that they don't have in stock. I ordered bike parts from them1.5 months ago and still have not received them. To add insult to injury, they don't answer the phone and ignore most emails: they answered 1 out of 5 so far. With COVID, a lot of stores have upped their internet game in order to survive. I recently ordered a stove from Bushtukah and received a used stove. There was soot in the stove parts, stickers were missing and there were scratches. Then I explained all this to them and they sent me another one, but it was also used !! They sent me a stove which obviously looks like it has been used. Like the other, there was a lot of soot and scratches. Now I explained to them that the stove was still used and they no longer respond. It is very disappointing. When I pay for something new I want to receive something new !! read more

This store is every adventure-lover's dream! Absolutely massive and stocked with every single gadget, gizmo and item of clothing an active person could require, it is my first stop when I need some new gear. My favourite thing about Bushtukah is it's expansive women's section. Most active-wear stores have smaller women's sections with little to no variety in size or colour. The same is not true for this gem though. In fact, I can't wait to stop in and look for a rain jacket for my upcoming West Coast Adventure. Yoga pants, water bottles, hiking boots and pedometers; I can always find what I am looking for. This store also has lots of gear for various sports such as snowboarding, skiing, golf and even paddle boarding. Their product is always stocked and their staff is extremely knowledgable. I have never had a bad experience and never feel intimidated asking questions or inquiring about a product. The bike selection is great as well, and if I was in the market, it would be the perfect place to go. This store is really cool, definitely up to date with an extremely knowledgable staff. read more

I just moved to Ottawa and Bushtukah is just damn impressive. I went there for cycling gear and they are as stocked as any bike shop I've ever seen. But they do cross country skiing and snow shoeing and outdoor clothing as well. It's massive, the selection is great and the staff is friendly. read more

My friend recently bought a new bike from Bushtakah. The shift/brake levers weren't aligned properly on the handlebars. The brakes were set up incorrectly, putting stress on the wheels every time they were engaged. The brake shoes weren't aligned correctly, and the cable housing for the rear brake was cut too short. The rear derailleur wasn't adjusted properly causing spontaneous, unexpected gear changes, and the derailleur hanger wasn't properly installed. The wheels were out of true, badly in the case of the rear wheel. The rear rack wasn't installed properly. They didn't even make sure that the seat was properly aligned with the frame. To summarize, their build of the bike was terrible, and they didn't bother fixing it before letting my friend ride home. Their lack of professionalism and irresponsibility in this case was shocking. read more

Not perfect, but not far off it. Cannot say I am impressed by the boat section range or staff hepfulness (but then I just heard today that they are winding up that part of the business), but the bike section rocks. The staff in the bike shop are not only helpful but they know their stuff. And if they screw up, they sort it out without charge or hassle. And what makes it a great store is that if they do not have an item in stock, they will recommend a reliable bike shop/repair shop in the area. Oh yes, the prices are VERY reasonable and much less than the big-box stores. read more

Good selection of cycling gear but the service is so inconsistent. On the same shift you'll find 2 great employees a couple indifferent and a couple half asleep so your experience really depends who you get. The quality of service is much more varied than other stores. I'd say they have a better selection than mec but staff don't seem to have any training in customer service at all. read more

fyi, i deliver to the bushtuka warehouse, but start going to the store years ago and now out of habit to support them as they support me. just get back from the stittsville bushtuka. i use three and a half pairs of running shoes over spring, summer and fall, for work, so getting a deal is almost essential. pick up the brooks glycerine 19 for 101$, tax in. without the sale it would be 230, and a brief check on line shows the best price there is about 150. this is a great find and ya, if you're full grown and want to invest in next year they always have amazing sales in the fall. i usually stick to shoes there, but take a look around and they have icebreaker tshirts for 50$, which is amazing for icebreaker, if you're feeling it they seem to have a decent variety of sizes. i have enough tshirts or might have got one. there is a decent selection of sale stuff. a couple of months ago i get a pair of brooks ghost 14s in westboro, they had exactly what i was after. they were only a bit on sale but i needed them and they had them, so it worked. i buy almost all my runners at bushtuka, thanks, y'all :) read more

The bike I wanted was on sale and was the last one but it was 'On Hold' for *48* hours. They called the person who had it on hold and explained that there was someone who was willing to buy it. She would not release the bike to me. She wanted more time to continue looking around at other shops (I heard the conversation). They told me I would have to wait to see what she decides. They told me that they honor their holds so customers would have good service. Huh? What about the person with the credit card in their hand? Does good service for me not count? I don't see why I should be prevented from buying something because someone needs to shop some more and can't make up their mind. The story ended well. I went elsewhere and got a great bike that I am very happy with. More importantly, they give consistent and equal service to all their customers. read more

Went there this week for 2 bikes that are listed on their site as in stock, and in store purchase only. They had neither and said they could not get them. The only bikes they seemed to have in stock were mid to higher end. Then the person helping me said "it's pretty much the end of the season". This was on JULY 9th !! If July 9 is the "end" of the cycling season to Bushtukah, what is Aug 1st ? Ski season ? Unless you're willing to spend a minimum of $2000, don't waste your time with the outdoor Wallmart of Westboro. Go to Rebec & Kroes or even Velozephie in Gatineau - they actually stock what they advertise. read more

Went to get my bike this morning,it took a while to find because the color indicated was wrong,they found it and after buying a few more things I left with my bike. After 2 minutes of cycling my pedal fell off and I was in a near painful experience.I returned and was quite direct in expressing my feelings. The people at service apologised ,took my bike ,changed the pedles and other parts that could have been affected ,while this was going on they paid for my coffee at a nearby shop and came to get me when it was repaired. They acted in a very professional way,took the blame and fixed what had to be fixed. I will remain a customer. read more

You are able to demo a bike before purchase. Nothing like taking one out on the road to see what the bike is really like. A+ for this. They let me upgrade to a better tire and I just paid the difference. I volunteered to make the trek from their Richmond store to the Kanata store to pick up a tire (the last tire they had in stock was damaged and would have meant a delay of a few days according to a member of the staff). Given it was the long weekend, I wanted to get everything taken care of while I had some time (get to learn the bike, test drive it, choose the accessories, etc.). Arrived at the Kanata store and noticed the person had laid out the wrong-sized tire...he said he was told that was the tire folks from the other store told him to put aside....a 25 when I needed a 32....big difference and especially given the customer, me, volunteered to make the drive to pick it up. Good thing I was paying attention). A heads up if you are buying accessories. If you intend to keep the packaging, make sure the service people are made aware or they just discard /recycle it. I was told they do offer refunds even without the accompanying packaging. They had forgottenj to give me the allen key that came with the Mirrycycle...nor the box and instruction paper inside. When I returned to the store the guy just handed me an allen key that was hanging around. Yes, I realize an allen key is an allen key but would be nice to have the one that came in the box I paid for. I realize being a busy shop mistakes do happen. In hindsight, not too big of a deal but if you're the type of consumer that likes to keep the packaging (maybe you want to sell it down the road), just let them know up front. Max pressure on my upgraded tires was 80 or something according to the sidewall. I found out after I left the store they were inflated to just below 60. When I enquired, the tech mentioned that it (tire pressure) depended on the condition/surface type....well, it's a hybrid and most hybrids are ridden on paved roads and bike paths. The Trek 7.1 was a harsh ride as expected but the 7.3 was a softer ride. The reason was the 7.3 tire pressure was at 30 psi. Bikes get taken out for demo all the time and they don't always have time to check the psi on all the bikes which is very understandable. Good thing i checked so I'm comparing apples to apples. After the tires on the 7.3 was inflated to the same pressure as the 7.1, the harshness of the ride was pretty much the same. The new bike I purchased needed a slight readjustment to the gears as well. While one would hope/expect that a new bike would have all the gears adjusted right before leaving the store, given the amount of bikes that need to be worked on, maybe this isn't a realistic expectation? This may be normal as I ran into another customer (two weeks ago when I was demoing the bikes) who brought his new Trek FX 7.3 bike in for the same thing. Gears is something most customers will notice anyway...so, if it doesn't feel right, they will bring it back to get it adjusted. The mechanic explained the gears were just slightly off and performed the readjustment. Was quite friendly, taking the time to explain, etc. I could have purchased the same bike....ok, a 2011 which is pretty much the exact same bike as a 2012...for a $100 less at another shop. But I was impressed with the service at Bushtukah when I went to demo the bikes. I also like the included 2 year servicing (one less thing to have to worry about) and 15% off accessories if you purchase the bike there. Overall, I am a happy new bike owner. I miss cycling. Haven't done anything serious for maybe 15 years. Many moons ago I was an avid cyclist....having biked down to places like Vermont, Montreal to Ottawa and back in 2 days, Ottawa to Kingston, etc. Did all this on a cheap Peugeot 10 speed. First long distance trip was on an 80+ degree day where you couldn't properly sweat because of the high humidity. Took a break in an air-conditioned department store and the sweat just rolled down. The humidity also made the clothing in the bag much heavier due to the absorption. I made it from Montreal to Ottawa and back on adrenalin, determination and excitement of the adventure/challenge. Learn a lot about what you're made of. The mind usually starts to give up before the body. You have to be in shape but attitude is equally important. A necessity to know your bike well and ready for any mechanical issues that may come up. It's a long way from home. read more
