There are good and kind people in this world. I brought my 'beater bike' to Dave's Bike Dump this morning, having previously stripped the gears on my 2 wheel winter 'ride' to work. Dave quoted a price for the job and said it would be ready later in the day - he would call. When I picked up my bike, Dave had not only (hugely!!!!) upgraded my gears (crap replaced by nifty looking Shimano unit) and he had upgraded my brakes as well. Dave charged me what he had quoted when I dropped my bike off, in spite of overhauling my brakes, as well. Fan for life! Thank you, Dave. I went into the Bike Dump after being warned away from them but they had stock so how bad can they be? The reason they have stock when Cycle Salvation down the road does not is that they are not picky with product. After not being on a bicycle in ten years I spoke with a man with a beard that I've now found out is one of the two salesman. He sold me a bicycle that, while being cheap, he said was part of the inspected bikes and would be more than safe. On my first trip out the chain broke, resulting in me falling into traffic. When they were open I went and saw Dave, the owner, who blamed his deaf co-worker and simply snapped the chain back together. When I was unsure if that would work Dave told me it would be fine. I figured I'd let them fix their mistake and move on. On my next trip out it did the same thing. I wound up having to walk my bicycle over an hour and a half home and then to the shop the next day. Dave wasn't there and the staff were unsure when he would return. I, after much pushing, finally got to speak with the man who initially sold me the bicycle. He came out and was hostile and rude. He offered to refund the bicycle minus their $20 "restocking fee" which I said is ridiculous that they're unwilling to refund me completely being that it was their bicycle's faulty parts. The salesman with the beard was incredibly hostile and angry, as well as surprisingly rude with how reasonable my requests were. After a long back and forth he pushed the money into my hand and told me to leave. Completely unprofessional, some of the worst customer service I've had in a long time, terrible products and experience overall. If you're looking for an overpriced bicycle that you want to fix up throughout having it, this is your place! Two stars because if you ever need to pump up your tires they'll let you do it so I guess they're not completely useless. read more

Called about a problem with my front wheel, brake, and front derailler. Dave told me he'd look at it right away if I came in. Came in, he did a small adjustment, and refused to take my money. Decent, professional, and knowledgeable. Gave a friendly warning about the uselessness of my lock, too. Some of the reviews painted him as a bit gruff, and I can see that, but gruff + professional + knowledgeable + decent = excellent in my opinion. read more

Rude rude rude! After a phone conversation with. TJ. I went to purchase 2 rims with tires. On the phone he said 35$. I went to pick them up. Was surprised that no COVID measures were in place,no masks on employees etc. Tj looked for two that matched. We agreed on two, went to pay and Tj Said no that they are 35 a piece. I was floored for used or donated equipment. I said that 35 was for the two. Tj. Got very aggressive and came towards me in a aggressive manner. He walked away and another employee told me it was time to leave. I reported to police about feeling threatened and left report open. I will NOT BE BACK! What kind of operation are you running Dave? No rating stars for this place! I recommend going elsewhere with a different environment! It wouldn't let me do no star so one only because I had to! read more

Shopping at the Bike Dump is like any thrift store shopping. Don't go in expecting to find your dream item without any work. The bikes are used and refurbished and prices vary greatly depending on just how used and refurbished. There is usually a variety of types, but availability reflects sourcing and demand. Right now it is hard to find vintage and cruiser bikes due to popularity, but I predict a surplus of fixed-gear bikes to appear. Expect to have to dig around and maybe come back later. You can get a road-tested bike for $50-150 depending on condition. There are discounts for students and the owners are willing to haggle. Keep your receipt. If you ever want to sell your bike back they will pay better if you can prove that the bike you're selling isn't stolen. read more

They have some OK bikes but most of them are overpriced. One guy, whom I assume is Dave (because the rest of the employees were asking him all the questions), was extremely rude. Made some crude comments towards me (I'm a female) at one point when we asked him questions (basic things customers would ask about the bike). The rest of the staff were helpful, but I wouldn't go back there again because of how I was treated. read more

Great Bike Used Bike shop. I bought a road bike from a sports store, and only discovered that it had a presta valve when it needed air in the middle of a ride. I brought it to Dave's Bike Dump and they filled my tires, adjusted my brakes and wouldn't take any money. I then entered a triathlon (the reason I bought the bike) and I again went to Dave's and asked for a water bottle holder - they gave me one, that matched the colour of my bike, and told me it was free, and wished me luck in the race. Again, they wouldn't take any money. Finally I took my mountain bike there to get a tune up. The price was very reasonable and the bike works better than ever. I think the poster next to me = Michael R. is probbably "a difficult person" I didn't read his entire rant . seriously, its too long and he lost me at "Trek mountain bike worth $1200 bahahahaha . . The paramount shop for student/low budget/vintage bike owners. I needed an extremely specific part (165mm aluminum left crank arm, square taper) and they had one in their stock, used of course, but like-new condition. The technician was happy to install it for me for no extra charge, and the part cost a very small fraction of what a new part would cost at any other shop in the city. If you're looking to fix up a bike with out-of-production parts, they probably have what you're looking for. They also carry an array of rebuilt bikes for sale, for what I hear are reasonable prices. The only thing to note here is that they only take cash as payment. I intend to go back here for any cycling needs I anticipate in the coming years. read more

I purchased a Trek 3500 mountain bike. Was told there was a 30 day money back guarantee if I wasn't in any way satisfied. The bike I purchased had apparently been in an accident that had damaged a front rim so it had been replaced. I took it for a short test ride and purchased it having been told it was a great deal because the bike would have originally sold for $1200-$1500. After riding the bike for a few km I noticed that the shock was leaking oil and the adjusters on it were jammed. The derailler also skipped and jammed sometimes when you tried to shift and the chain would skip if you pedalled hard. The tires also would not hold air. I decided to look up the bike and see what parts were available. Imagine my surprise that it sells new for $389. I also noticed that the handlebars were out of alignment - not a big deal to adjust. Upon closer inspection I found that the handlebar assembly was actually bent as were the forks. No doubt a result of the apparent crash. I took the bicycle back to see if they could make adjustments to fix some of the issues I had found. The owner "Dave" was very ignorant from the start and said "what did you expect it's a used bike". Then he said it was sold as-is - a very different story from when I went to purchase it. When I questioned about the front wheel being different we were told the bike was perfect and never had any damage. The oil leaking from the front shock was only oil they put on it. Figuring maybe I could find a different bicycle I went inside to see what else they had while my wife waited outside. When I was unable to find anything else to suit my needs I asked for my money back. The owner said he had just taken the bike for a ride and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. He called me an idiot and told me to never come back. Their refund turns out not to be a money back guarantee - instead they charged me a "bike rental fee" and did not refund the purchase price. Apparently while I was inside a few less than polite comments were made about me and as my wife stood outside the entire time Dave the owner didn't look at, touch or test drive the bicycle as he had claimed. I can't in good faith recommend this place to anyone. When the lies roll so easily off the tongues and you get called an idiot because you find anything wrong with a product they resold. read more

Horrible shop. 10/10 would not recommend. If zero stars were a possibility I would put zero stars. The staff are unbelievably rude and only there to squeeze as much money out of you as as possible. The bikes are over priced for the quality and the service. Don't waste your time or your money and go somewhere else that doesn't treat you like a walking dollar bill to whom the staff allow themselves the right to behave as condescendingly as they seem fit to. read more

Do not go here. Anybody is much better off looking on kijiji ottawa. These guys want between 200-300 typically for a bike that is the kind somebody would throw out and not even bother to sell. They are not kidding when they say bikeDUMP. I just went there and was told to trade in my mint road bike and give them 100 dollars for the rustiest old piece of garbage. I walked away and bought a used, good condition, Norco road bike for 140 off kijiji. These guys may have had business back before the internet but now with individual sellers being able to sell directly to new buyers with online classified ads, who do not have to pay for overhead costs and usually just want the bike gone, these guys won't be able to keep up. These guys are the worst. I do not believe they deserve a single star, but I had to put something to get this review up. Talk about over pricing and ripping people off, an old used rim for an old bike no less than $40 (you're kidding), without a tube or tire.... what a rip off. And then the nerve to offer an older (10 years at the very least) used bike for $75 - for which the latest model is being sold in CTC for no less than $95 all year round and not on sale (on sale they go for $75, so I bought it there instead). These guys will gouge you any way they can. A used chain they wouldn't sell, but a new one they would sell for $60 (are you effn kidding me). I got the same chain at CTC for $15. You believe this crap. Don't go there whatever you do - they will just rip you off. There are others that offer used bikes for a lot less than these guys do. read more
