I had to create a Yelp account today due to my experience with Brian these past few weeks at The Custom Suit Shop. I found this place on Google as I was looking to get a custom suit for a work conference we are going to. I also referred in a co-worker of mine who's looking for the same.
Brian came to our office in Charlotte, NC twice (once for my co-worker and then back to come see me when I was in town). When he came to see me, he had no fabric samples with him as he had to give him to another co-worker who's car was broken into and they were stolen. (Strange I thought)
There was a very "salesy" approach in talking about suits and wardrobes as I felt like I was being talked down to because I shop at Jos. A Banks and buy my shoes at DSW. I am in sales too so I liked his assumptive closing techniques and thought - Oh well, I needed a suit and wasn't about to wait for another company as I was on a deadline.
Never gave me pricing exacts and had to email me fabric choices after he took my measurements. After I write back what I wanted he told me my pricing for the suit, not the shirt. Come to find out my card gets charged about $250 more than I expected (and about $300 more than my co-worker got charged for the same stuff). When I asked for a reasoning to why the price was so different Brian only told me he ordered me an extra shirt by accident. Still, I was charged over $125 more than my co-worker for getting a suit, shirt and tie compared to my co-worker.
After telling him I wasn't happy with this experience, however, I'd like to move forward he tells me we'd be better off just cancelling due to the stress involved in such a
"small scale scenario" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! A place that advertises $295 suits is going to do business with someone who just bought over $700 worth of merchandise and told him I'd be looking to buy more down the road?!?! I felt like I was being scammed and found out what was going on. Brian called me and said that things were mis-communicated and what not, even though I told him I wanted to move forward with the suit- he still said it'd be better to just cancel the order.
I've never wrote a review on Yelp or any other search engine, but I feel that people should know that this company tries to talk fast, they write your credit card down # on a scrap piece of paper and make numbers up out of their head after your order is in.
I guess I'll take some of the blame for trusting someone to work ethically, however, when two people in the same office buy a suit, shirt and tie and there is $127.20 difference and the only explanation was "I was doing your friend a favor" I get suspicious. At the very very end Brian agreed to match my co-workers pricing- by then it was too late. Someone who refers a client to you shouldn't have to bargain you down to get the same rate as the referral did. I told Brian I would be posting on public forums my experience and he tried to guilt me in to not doing it but this is one I had to share... Be warned.
Oh well- it's back to Jos. A Banks I go I suppose... read more
