A small, quaint little town ... Southern Illinois. Truly a main st USA. Sits a tiny little, red roof, some would say, hole in the wall little, ice cream stand. Oh but let me tell you, it's so much more than that. I've come to find out true history of this beautiful little town, and this stand. The Custard Stand, since 1949 it was built and founded right there on that corner, imagine the history the building could talk about. And let me say, it had a line the entire time I was there, and drove back by again a day later. They offer wonderful, ice cream, floats, sundaes, all the true desert things we all come to love. But they also had an extensive menu with salads, chili, even hotdogs, etc. truly a little amazing gem right in the heart of tiny little Sesser. Prices are absolutely amazing, $10 bucks a family of 4 can quite literally all get a tiny ice cream. It was thick, great ice cream too, my root beer float was very good. Hot days here, and you'll catch me in line time and time again. Thank you little Custard Stand, I'll be back. read more

The speciality is the dream come (orange sherbet with vanilla). Try it. So refreshing. Outdoor seating available, but shade is limited. Sesser park is very close by if you need a shady spot to sit. While Camping at Rend Lake, two separate individuals encouraged us to stop through Sesser at the Custard Stand. We picked the warmest day on the week to head into Sessor for our cool treat. The options of flavors and combinations made it almost impossible to choose. My daughter had their famous home made orange sherbet twist cone. My son had their Dirt Sunday, I had the butterscotch "old fashion" and my husband had the chocolate dip cone. All was very good! The frozen custard was rich and creamy. But, if I could go back (which I will if I ever get to Sessor again) I would definitely get the sherbet! read more

Small town ice cream and burgers at its best. Stopping in a time or two is a must when camping at the lake or out for a ride. Yum!

This is one of those ice cream places from yesteryear. Just a walk up to the window to place your order. They also serve burgers, chili dogs and other food items. I had the double child dog which was very good. The chile was like canned but delicious. I later discovered it's their own recipe. My other friends had the burger which they said was also very good. One of the unusual things I saw on the menu was an orange "shake" drink. It also comes in lemon too. But it's like the juice from the orange with chipped ice that is sweetened with a pit of tartness to it. It was very refreshing and tasted great. Their signature ice cream is the dream cone, which is half orange sherbet and vanilla. It was fantastic! Friends of ours raved about this place, so we drove 2 hours on Labor Day to check it out. We frequently stop here when driving by. It is seasonal, and there is usually at least a short line. I think the prices are reasonable for the amount you get. I think the orange sherbet is a little sweet, but I like the good old fashioned vanilla cone. read more

Love going here, Yes this is a seasonal only business, they try to be open the first weekend in April till the end October. The ice-cream its probably the best in Southern Illinois, I have yet to find place with better ice-cream. The price is a little high but,its worth the money for the amount of ice cream you get. My Nana lives close to this place and whenever we go visit she always bring us there and it's the BEST!!! There signature ice cream is the dream cone which is half vanilla half orange sherbet. I love that they also serve just sherbet or vanilla. The also have different ice cream flavors, like chocolate and Stuff. The also have things like chilly dogs and burgers if you prefer that. My cousin went there with us and she got the dirt Sunday and she LOVED it. When you walk up to the window the person is always very nice and gives you big ice cream scoop.
