One of my family places since my dad was a child we try to come here yearly just for there custard cups which are reasonable prices.

Review Visit: July 4th, 2016 Voted the Best Ice Cream in Illinois in 2015! My 5/5 Rating would have to agree. A friend recommended Jarling's and it has been on my list for awhile. They have only two locations; Danville, IL and Champaign, IL. I am usually never around these areas, so it has taken me awhile for my travels to take me near Jarlings... and good gosh, it was worth the drive! I have mostly visited 'ice cream' shacks but this one seems to use custard in their ice cream. Not sure what that entails, but good god, was this ice cream fantastic. Easily places in the Top 5 of my Ice Cream list. If you love ice cream, you owe it to yourself (and your family... and friends) to try this place! read more

Went to the window give order, my husband and me ordered a turtle. Delicious! Vanilla ice cream, chocolate and butter caramel and pecans. Delicious!!! read more

Good selection of flavors but the custard melts too fast. It could be more frozen as it's like having a milkshake. Also a bit too sweet.

I've heard a lot about this place from my husband. He'd go here every summer when visiting family as a kid. I'm so glad we stopped in on our road-trip... the sundae definitely hit the stop after driving and was a nice walk down memory lane with my hubby. It's a cute walk up custard shop and there was a lot of options. I ordered what my husband always got as a kid, a turtle sundae. I forgot to take a picture. It looked too good not to dig right in. Worth a stop if you're in the area! read more

A Danville staple, The Custard Cup recently changed owners and the name slightly. Keeping the same delicious recipe, The Custard Cup serves fresh made custard at great prices. I stopped in to try it out after the owner change and it did not disappoint. The service was friendly and quick. The custard was creamy and delicious as always and the prices were very reasonable. Having been going here for 30+ years I was happy and will continue stopping in for a sweet treat! read more

The inside looks clean, the customer service is good, location is good, ice cream(custard) is fantastic!

I make it a point to stop there every time I am in Danville, IL. I have been going there for decades. And I wish I could get ice cream that good where I live. read more

I live closer to Champaign, and have been enjoying the Jarling's Custard Cup there for a few years now. I understand that there is some kind of "rivalry" between fans of each of the two locations, kinda like fans of the Cubs and Cardinals. But, I'm sure it's all good fun, because as far as I can tell, both locations have excellent frozen custard deserts. Jarling's is the first place I ran into the idea of "cold fudge". It's just like "hot fudge", except that it doesn't melt the custard. Brilliant! Several flavors of frozen custard are always available, in just about any conceivable configuration. I've always found the service to be friendly at both locations, and the treat to be just the thing for either a hot summer day or warm summer evening. Bring friends. There's really nothing like sharing an experience like this with friends. read more

This is our go to summer ice cream shop. The custard is by far the best I've had. Place is always busy. They even have a menu item for dogs called a pup cup. It is a single scoop of vanilla custard with small Milk Bone dog biscuits on top. Highly recommend and anxiously awaiting their opening this season. read more

I'm new in Danville and I was looking for a good custard place, everyone was talking about their lemon flavor, so I went and tried it and I instantly loved it!! Their lemon and cheesecake snowstorm is the best!!!!! read more

The price on the board was different from the price that I was charge for four dips. I guess they charge for the cup size too. Will not be going back. read more

When back home you have to stop at Custard Cup! This is the absolute best frozen custard anywhere in my opinion. Their snowstorm (blizzard if at DQ) is the best. They do not skip on the add-ins. I always get the tropical snowstorm. It has big chunks of banana, almonds and fresh coconut. Very, very good. The green river sleet float is a winner as well. No matter what you choose, you can't go wrong. You definitely need to stop here if you are in the area, but if not, it will be well worth the drive. read more

This is the ice cream by which all others are judged and found lacking! You nap towners think Goose the Markets gelato is the bomb, or you hagendazers who look down ur nose at other brands, I'm telling you, you haven't had ice cream until you've stood in line for a half hour or more, inhaled the magic aroma wafting out of the Cup's slider windows and tasted the heaven of The Custard Cups Lemon Custard. Have it in their homemade waffle cones and you'll know what Heaven tastes like!! For your next Custard adventure try their homemade Green River Float and if you want to take that up a notch (if you think you can handle it) have them make your Green River float with lemon custard and you will know how the gods eat!!! Danville is a little burg of only about 35,000 peeps and on any given Fri. or Sat night you'll run in to half of them in line at the Custard Cup. So if your passin by Danville on I-74 take the time to find The Custard Cup with your GPS and enjoy one of the best things America has to offer, you'll find reasons to make a return trip. Season runs from 3rd week of March to near Halloween every year. You know your a Vermilion Co native if you regularly find yourself standing in line for the Custard Cup with your parka & snow boots on in March an don't think it's odd in the least! read more

Jarling's Custard Cup is a local icon. It's not summer until the first visit to this walk-up frozen treat stand. In fact, the Custard Cup regularly so crowded that a decades-old joke for newly minted drivers is to honk on the way by and count the number of people that turn around. The frozen custard served is like very creamy ice cream--it's almost gelato like. All of the custard products are made in-store--you can watch the machine while you are waiting in line (and make juvenile jokes when they're making chocolate). They always serve vanilla, chocolate and lemon (all of which are noteworthy) along with a smattering of regular flavors, and there are rotating weekly specials. It's good enough to eat without any toppings, but if you must ornament there are tons of choices (my favorite combination is vanilla ice cream with marshmallow and cold fudge). The hand-dipped milkshakes and malts are also fantastic. read more

Every town should have a custard cup of their own! Love the style of the place, it has old school charm that you can't get anywhere else. The custard is amazing. Can I just pick it up and take it with me to Wisconsin? read more

First stop after driving into Danville. My boyfriends family lived here 20 years ago and this is their favorite spot to get cold treats. We all got turtles during our visit. Literally the best custard you could ever hope to have. This stuff is amazing, and I don't say that lightly because I have been a connoisseur of ice creams from Ohio to Alaska. Try it, because you will not be disappointed. In fact you will probably become addicted and end up returning every week just like I did. read more

We have always loved going to Custard Cup and grew up with it being a family tradition. Today was the first time we ever had a negative experience with them. The young girl at the counter who took our order had an attitude about my husband messing up the size names and asking for a medium when they do not sell that size. She then got an attitude when my sister asked for banana ice cream. When I ordered a banana creme pie snowstorm with whipped cream the owner got an attitude and said they were out of whipped cream. The snowstorm then had no banana in it and my husband's snowstorm had no cookie dough in it, which he asked for. From now on, when wanting ice cream in the Danville area, we will take our business elsewhere. read more

Would say a average place to get your dessert fix! Service was rather slow for just a milk shake and Carmel/ cold fudge Sunday. Due love the cold fudge option so you don't melt the custard! Prices are okay wouldn't say you are getting a deal by an means. Would recommend going if you are in the area but wouldn't go out of your way. read more

I didn't even know that frozen custard was a thing until I went to Danville, but here I am, about to write a review about how great frozen custard is. Actually, I'm really not much of an ice cream/custard person, but if you love ice cream, you'll dig this (and if you don't, it's still worth trying, especially if you've never had frozen custard before). I had the lemon custard, plain, though I hear you can get toppings (I'll be back in town next week and will be more adventurous then). It was very yummy. I went mid-afternoon so have no idea if this little custard stand gets any busier in the evenings or weekends, but I was served right away. read more

I drove all the way up North Vermin Street only to find it was closed! The roads are clear, so what gives? I avoided stopping in because I thought the place was unpopular. Now I know it really is. They're forced to close for the winter. Must be for that reason. I was excited because I brought my custard launcher all ready and prepped, only to find that even if it was open it's not what I'm looking for. With all the hot people in the parking lot I spotted while driving by last summer, the place will continue to pique my interest. I am resolved to give this place another shot in the spring. But, seriously, get some winter hours and please try and make sure your customers know what type of custard you are talking about. It wasn't obvious to me, and I can't be the only one with something else on my mind. read more

Visits to The Custard Cup are among my fondest memories from childhood. Hot summer days, long lines where you visit with your friends while waiting your turn for the best ice cream on the planet...ah, the nostalgia! Try the lemon custard ice cream. It's the best! Also consider the cold fudge sunday -- awesome! I've lived away from Danville for 30 years, but look forward to return visits to the Custard Cup almost as much as seeing the relatives. There's one in Champaign too. read more

This is the best ice cream I've ever had!! Drive up from Dallas, TX every summer just to get a snowstorm! Nothing can compare!

My family and I were back home in Danville for a week recently. I grew up there, my wife on the east coast, my daughter in California. I grew up with the Custard Cup as a rare treat. When all the other ice cream shops started opening I, like most, tried them out. I keep coming back to the original, and best, in the business. They have a simple menu and I ahve never failed to find exactly what I want. My wife is a convert and my daughter swears by the lemon and orange flavors. During our recent trip we went to the Danville location no less than three days in a row for a total of four trips. For three cones I paid less than $5.00. Where else can you get such value. Everytime I'm home I make it a point to visit the Custard Cup as often as possible. When I retire in about five years I would love to franchise out here. read more

Well it looks like there are some haters on here. But from experience at "the cup" its the best ice cream around. I've been employed there for 2 seasons and its been the most fun!! The customers arent always so nice but its sooo fun to work here. Ans there are so many different ways to have your ice cream, i still havent tried everything. The owners are like my family. and yes it is better than dairy queen and cold stone so quit hatinnn :) read more

I think Custard Cup is overpriced, and doesn't taste that great. I'd seriously rather go to Dairy Queen. I've tried getting snowstorms (like a Blizzard) and they are NEVER blended up enough. Plus its just bland custard with chunks of candy. Not that great. I suppose its worth trying once, but not a place I go very often during the summer. read more

Best custard I have ever had. They have lots of yummy options and I look forward to when mint custard is the flavor of the week.

Visiting Custard Cup is a bit like going back in time, when people went to outdoor ice cream stands for some great ice cream. Only this is custard, which has a smoother and richer feel. They offer several flavors every day - vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, lemon - with another flavor on a weekly rotation (mint, cotton candy, orange, blue raspberry). I would suggest getting two dips of different flavors (chocolate and lemon sounds strange but trust me it's good) in a fresh waffle cone. They have a variety of sundaes with the usual toppings (fudge, sprinkles, nuts). The baseball hat sundaes are popular and of course the Cubs and White Sox hats sell out quickly. They have Snowstorms (think DQ Blizzard) with at least 50 different choices. They even have phosphates but if you're looking for something really special, you better try a Green River Sleet (like a slush ice). The only downside is that since it's a stand, the Cup is only open mid-March through mid-October. read more

Always was a staple as a child when going to the doctors office.(yum yum) Still enjoy

It's not Spring until they open and not Fall till they close. Top a dip of lemon with a dip of chocolate and lick together. Yum! It's 93% fat free ,but I'd eat it no matter what it measured. Best treat around. read more

Overpriced! Is it made with milk or gold? Culvers and DQ are less than a mile from this place and just as good.
