It's somewhat ironic that Sutton, a Royal Town, could be considered - given the sheer and welcome volume of restaurants - a mini republic of curry vendors. Perhaps it's from this that Curry Republic drew its name.
It's effectively a delivery-only kitchen - someone somewhere is making a tidy buck - and therefore must be judged on its efficiency. The good news is that ordering and subsequent delivery is a breeze - and very quick too.
Prices are about what you'd expect. What has been surprising is the 'goodwill' additions to your relatively chic, paper delivery bag. Intentionally included with our curries were not-ordered-but-welcome spicy chicken wings and extra pappadums. Talking of which, if you're the kind who likes to drizzle yoghurt, mint and onion on these classic sundries, you may wish to speak up when ordering.... the pots are quite a bit smaller to that which you've seen before. That's not a complaint - ordering is encouraged - but it's worth a quick heads-up, should your house match this one for elaborate and slightly obsessive pappadum indulgence.
As to the main courses, I picked chicken tikka masala - that relatively bland Brit standard is by no means a favourite but I thought it a safe bet to gauge Curry Republic's fare.
It was fine, but not great, although it's always worth admitting that with curries, so much can be skewed by subjectivity born of putting in years with a tried-and-trusted 'local'. My wife, on the other hand, is still raving about hers - and she is not backwards in coming forwards about curry standards.
Portions are gigantic so there is a far chance of a spicy breakfast. Two meals for the price of one, then.... straight to your door. Recommended. read more
