Delighful, delicous, delovely...yes, this cupcake'n'coffee store looks positively edible. From its pink and white candy-striped walls, to the chocolate brown banquettes (complete with cushions and teddy bears); to the divine concoctions on display at the counter, it's a sweet tooth's paradise. I couldn't decide between a Miss Piggy cupcake, or the one with the strawberry cheescake icing (the latter ended up winning the coin toss), so I took it, along with my beautifully creamy cappacino, to devour on the small patio outside. And the cake? Well this is where I differ to most other people so far. I thought it was Ok...but I'm going to go off piste here and say that it was most definitely not the best I've eaten. (I've had better in...gasp...Shingle Inn). I was definitely more taken with the cuteness of the cafe than the cake itself. It should have been fluffier, the icing should have been tastier... As soon as I saw a shop called 'the Cupcake Parlour', I knew it was somewhere I wanted to visit. I arrived at the gorgeous little shop after walking as fast as my legs could carry me. The pink and white theme only adds to the cute factor, along with making it quite impossible for straight men to frequent this place. Inside is just as adorable, with a cosy little booth to one side and a display cabinet full of various cupcake flavours. There are many flavours to choose from; more traditional ones like chocolate and some fancier varieties such as marble, each of which has a chocolate seashell perched on the carefully iced top. I absolutely love seashells but when it comes to cupcakes I believe it's the original and the best, so I chose a vanilla flavoured one. I have to say I was disappointed. The base was delicious and exactly what I would expect of a cupcake, even if it was a little heavy, but the icing was not. The main reason I love cupcakes is because of the amazingly creamy, buttery icing. The icing here is harder and can absolutely not be described as creamy. It's still a nice place and the cupcakes are presented so well that I'm sure I will be enticed into trying them again. read more

A few years ago, I decided to go on a hunt for the best cupcake in Brisbane. Like good old Goldie Locks, I was looking for the cupcake that was just right... it couldn't have too much topping, be too dry or too wet, too bland or too sweet. The closest I have come to finding the elusive ideal cupcake are those tasty morsels from the Cupcake Parlour. The very aesthetically pleasing cupcakes make my mouth water, especially the cookies n cream, or the passion fruit. When offered with such a large array of flavours, I can never choose just one. While the cupcakes are quite big, it is the mini variety that they offer, which I love. It allows me to snack on not one large tasty treat but many. The Cupcake Parlour beckons you inside with its pink flags and quaint white outdoor dining sets. Inside is an array of cupcake paraphernalia, from cupcake shaped lip gloss to earphones. They also serve milkshakes and beverages to go with your cupcakes but the pretty little things stay the star of this establishment. read more

I can't stop raving about this place. It's quickly becoming my new happy place. Apart from the awesome decor inside and the astro turf and cafe style seating outside, the cupcakes are AMAZING. Try the red velvet cupcake, you will not regret it (although your hips might). But as far as the milkshakes go, take it or leave it; mine had a lot of milk and not enough strawberry to satisfy my lust for sweet. I do have to mention the amazing cupcake paraphanelia around the shop as well; cute and quirky gifts for all your baking goods, including a cake candlabra (yes, literally a candlabra for a cake), cupcake key covers, cupcake lipgloss.....it's food porn at its finest. The girl behind the counter was a sweetheart (must come with the territory), and there are gluten-free and vegan options too. Get your sweet on, but be warned: this is not somewhere to take your boyfriend. Unless he likes pink. And a whole lot of it. read more

From the outside is seems quite pretty, but inside all the cuteness seems to have exploded into some sort of macabre cartoon crime scene. Two steps in the door and suddenly you're at the counter; I think the real estate term is "cozy". The cupcakes are fine, but considering the name of the joint, they should be "I NO LONGER HAVE SOCKS BECAUSE THEY WERE JUST BLOWN OFF BY HOW AWESOME THIS CUPCAKE IS" awesome. Thankfully, they have some interesting US soft drinks, which I have a huge soft spot (ha) for. They do some gluten free cupcakes, and seem to regularly do vegan cupcakes (the first time we went, the cupcakes were gluten free AND vegan and tasted like wood glue topped with clag). The vegan ones (which I had) were good, though. It's a reasonably unique experience (which I'm sure will only become more unique as the cupcake craze finally comes to an end), so if you really want to be able to choose between 20 different flavours of cupcake, it's worth a go, but if you're not sure, you're not really missing out. read more

Oh me oh my! Is there anything better than cake? I think not... The Cupcake Parlour in West End has an array of scrumptious cupcakes - each fit for a Queen. This charming little store first caught my eye a few years ago when I was in search of a birthday cake for my vegan sister. The cupcakes here are just splendid and most of them are suitable for vegans - hooray! The cupcakes are made fresh daily and the lemon sorbet is my absolute favourite, a zesty lemon flavoured butter icing atop a rich vanilla cake, topped with a pink fondant flower - so cute and very tasty. My daughters love the 'Lil Miss Piggy' cake which is a sweet little pink piggy cupcake with a marshmallow nose - oink oink. A regular cupcake will set you back $3.50 (vegan, gluten free and diabetic are all $4 each) or you can get a pack of 12 for $40. They also do custom cupcakes great for birthdays and other special occasions. If you end up visiting the Cupcake Parlour make sure you dine in there is something special about eating cake in a pink & white parlour. read more

Best cupcakes in Brisbane, right here. Trust me, I've eaten a fair few cupcakes and nothing beats these. The cake is light and fluffy and they don't skimp on the icing. They have a cast of regular flavours, as well as a rotation of specials. If a special is popular enough, they'll even add it to the permanent menu. I usually end up scoffling these cupcakes at markets or the Ekka where The Cupcake Parlour hold stalls, but a trip to their shop is an even bigger treat because it's almost as cute as the cakes themselves. The pink and white wallpaper, cushy banquette, and kitschy feel of their little shop fits perfectly with the sweetness of their cakes. As somebody who is much more enamored with vanilla cake than chocolate cake, my recommendations are the Pretty in Pink (vanilla cake with rosewater icing), Fluffy Bunny (vanilla cake with coconut icing and shredded coconut), or the Strawberry Sundae (vanilla cake with strawberry icing, 100s and 1000s, and a cherry on top!). The cupcake team are very helpful if you want to order custom cupcakes for an event, too. For my 21st, they made me a fabulous tier of pink and green vanilla cupcakes (rosewater icing and mint icing respectively) for my party at a Moroccan restaurant/bar. Its hard for me to believe that we are talking about the same place, having read the other reviews. Ok, I agree, the cupcakes here LOOK amazing. But the cake itself is like cardboard, no flavour whatsoever. It's really synthetic and nasty. If you've ever tasted really good cupcakes, you'll be very disappointed with these. As for the icing? Again, tastes synthetic and is really sickly. So, cupcake parlour. It's not enough to make your shop look pretty, and make cupcakes that are visually appealing. They actually have to taste good too. The cupcakes look beautiful and appealing to eat but it is just the icing and designs that make them popular. The service is terrible and would never go back! There are much better shops that I would prefer to spend my money in, nicer on the taste buds and much better service. The experience makes up for a lot! read more
