Although this is technically not in the DC-Baltimore area as it's geographically closer to Richmond & Charlottesville areas, I'm counting it for these reasons: 1. It was a good runner-up for the letter B, which my original pick was truly out of town by Smith Mountain Lake, also in Virginia, but way southwest. 2. This place was great, so I wanted to get around to reviewing 3. I had Louisa County, VA work travel twice in March & April 2024 and was rolled into the BAWA (Baltimore-Washington area) work market, perhaps because the Virginia market, which includes Richmond & many areas to the south & west is such a vast land area with many counties, they barely rolled Louisa into BAWA market. Experience here: Staff greeted me and was friendly. On Monday, March 4, 2024, I got a wrap & fries. It really hit the spot. Excellent wrap & fries at a reasonable price. I think I got one of their coffees that day, but definitely did in April as I have photo of the drink. On Monday, April 15, 2024, I remembered it was a great lunch option that I decided when in Rome to go back, got a fruity chicken salad, which was also solid. They are creative baristas serving joy in every cup. Aside from the coffee, the best part is there's a different scripture written on each cup. To paraphrase the Beatles, there's nothing I can say that can't be said, but man do I love, love, love this place. Excellent whole bean offerings, roasted to perfection by expert roasters. Delicious hot and iced coffee and espresso drinks that simply can't be replicated anywhere nearby--including, sadly, in my home town of Staunton (hey, Trager Brothers! There's a huge opportunity for expansion in the Queen City!). And top all that off with sublime, informed, and incredibly friendly front of house staff. Yeah, it's a little hard to find, but anything worth having is worth looking for. The waitress comes to apologize for putting in the appetizer instead of entree and says dessert is on me. The entree comes out and the balsamic glaze made the scallops look seared but they weren't and a couple of the larger ones were less than fully cooked. What I ate was very tasty and briny. The risotto was superb. Alex, the owner, comes over to ask how things are so I tell him the flavor of the scallops is excellent and fresh, I just with they seared better. He could see I was trimming and eating the edge. He thanks me for the input and disappears. Mary Ann, the owner, comes by to ask how things are and I tell her the same thing. She says let me bring you something else like a bowl of pasta. I tell her not a bowl just a saucer so I can taste it. She heads off. Alex returns with two scallops cooked to perfection. A few minutes later Mary Ann returns with a full bowl of bolognese pasta. Later the waitress returns with my apple pie dessert which was outstanding! When the waitress brings the bill she explains the scallops were removed from the check and replaced with the pasta (lower price). The dessert was complimentary. She got a great tip.
