Clean, super happy friendly staff and they were very fast getting our amazing lunch right to us. Great coffee shop vibe. We got the uptown club with a side of the best fries. And if you know me. I am picky about my fries. They were wonderful. The Uptown Club was great too. Big enough to split. The bread was fresh and I love when they use all the fancy different micro lettuce. Full of flavor. This is the perfect day for us. Cycling the High Bridge Trail and Lunch at Uptown Coffee House and Cafe.

Update in July 2026: I recommend Poplar Sips a few steps away instead. This was another…read moredisappointing experience. We waited a very long time for two sandwiches. When the order came from the kitchen, it was only one sandwich, so we had to ask them to make the rest of our order. We also bought a container of pasta salad from the cooler, but upon going to get it, we noticed the date written on the container was already four days past so we just left it there. The bathroom stank strongly of urine, like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks, and the floor felt sticky. I really want to like this place; I like the vibe, ownership's values obviously match my personal values and I want to support them, but I can't ignore these serious issues. Initial review from Jun 2024: We were there twice. The first time, the person at the register was unbelievably slow to get the people in front of us rung up. I don't remember the last time I have waited so long second in line. The second time, there was nobody at the register and we left after several minutes.

Update in summer 2026: another great experience at this spotlessly clean, pleasant business…read more Several people in our family stopped in once or twice for coffee, food, or ice cream and everyone had good things to say. Initial review from summer 2025: We had a coffee, a latte, and two kinds of bagels. The food was good and served quickly. The owner was our barista! She was friendly and cheerful. She roasts the coffee herself in-house. We liked the coffee so much that we bought a whole bag. The restrooms were spotlessly clean and the entire restaurant was clean and in perfect order. Highly recommended.

We were getting desperate and even attempted to visit Starbucks, but it was also closed. It ended up being a lucky break, because instead of chain coffee and prepackaged food, we discovered Poplar Sips, a friendly and inviting coffee shop with made to order, fresh sandwiches, coffees, and smoothies. My family enjoyed two hot cappuccinos, one with oat milk and one with regular milk, and two great sandwiches, one grilled cheese and one ham and brie. Both were pressed and served piping, hot. Both employees were very friendly, the café lounge area had very comfy chairs, and the bathroom was clean. Popular Sips also serves local Richland ice cream, which is a dairy farm only a few miles away. While we discovered Poplar Sips today by chance, on our next road trip through the area, we will return on purpose!

This is a must-visit for diner enthusiasts. The building sits on the north-south main thoroughfare…read morethrough historic downtown Farmville, an area once lined with tobacco warehouses. It is very small, with about fifteen stools wrapping around a classic service counter. According to the menu, the diner is a "One-Master Model 15-Stool Valentine steel building," made by Valentine Manufacturing Company of Wichita, Kansas, in 1955. They have a small parking lot in back of the diner. I parked there and then saw a bathroom entrance sign -- after a 2 1/2-hour trip, nature was calling. It is a very clean bathroom located at the rear of the building, with a separate entrance from the parking lot. There is no access to the restroom from inside the diner -- a unique and nostalgic feature you don't see much anymore. I walked around to the front of the building, entered, sat down on a stool, and was greeted with, "Y'all having a good day so far?" I had a half sweet/half unsweet tea and the Cheeseburger Deluxe with no mayonnaise. It came with lettuce, tomato, pickle chips, onions, French fries, and cole slaw. I put ketchup on the fries, but the fresh tomato alone provided plenty of flavor for the juicy, delicious burger. The French fries were crispy and delicious -- exactly what you hope for at a classic diner. The cole slaw was outstanding and clearly tasted homemade. The pies looked incredible, and because the cheeseburger platter was so good, I had a piece of blueberry buttermilk cake topped with whipped cream -- wow! There is also a clearly posted 3% surcharge if paying with a credit card. Prices are reasonable, so it didn't feel like an issue. This was a great overall experience, and I would recommend this classic, nostalgic mid-20th-century diner to anyone traveling through Farmville. It closes at 2 pm, so plan accordingly!
