I believe these are the pork mung bean noodles in a clay pot. It's so flavourful and packed and I really recommend it! The pig intestine from the food stall "hong Kong" I dont recommend because it was $7.5 for those two tiny skewers which was a little sad. Remember to bring cash when dining here because some stalls only accept cash! Another food court eatery, so many good places and newer ones popping up in vancouver. We had a duck and congee and xlb but unfortunately not the regular place that we get it from, it was closed today. My sis grabbed a hand pulled noodles with lamb, wow that was great! The was various rice noodles also that were pretty good. The big issue with this mall is the underground parking which can b challenging if you drive a bigger vehicle. Everyone is welcome at this mall, but I would say it's catered to Chinese and older people. Google says they close at 7 pm but most shops are closed by 5 at the latest. I wouldn't risk coming here after 3 pm. There is a produce shop, several frozen dumpling shops, several dry herb shops, a Cantonese BBQ shop, a tofu shop, spas, boba shops, salon, etc. The top floor is a food court with a wide selection of Chinese food, dessert and drinks. The tofu shop is so good and cheap. It explains why there is always a line there. There is an underground parking - but expect it to be packed going in and out on the weekends. read more

While Crystal Mall has a lot of variety when it comes to shopping and dining, what it doesn't have a variety of is something really important - parking! My wife and I went there on a Thursday and we literally drove around in circles to find a spot. So much that we got trapped because the rate of cars coming into the parking lot shaped like a circle was higher than the rate of cars leaving! This felt like a movie because cars were honking out of frustration because no one was moving. read more

Only worth coming here for the food court and the wet market, even despite the...unusual aromas to be found in either: both are top notch! The rest of the mall is grimy, run-down, sparsely populated, even more sparsely operated, with many of the shops either empty, unmanned, or offering services or products that seem shady at best. Parking in the subterranean garage sucks: narrow, cramped, and filled with aggressive and/or sloppy parkers and drivers who make getting in, out, or finding a space more of a headache than it's worth. read more

Sometimes the tastiest of meals are simply found in food courts. Luckily for my friends and I, the hotel we were staying at was connected to Crystal Mall so it was easy access to get there! They have a variety of Asian foods that it was so hard to choose what to eat but after coming here a couple of times, I feel like these three places are the MUST EAT! The first is the 1973 J+G Fried Chicken. I first tried this when I was in Taiwan and it was one of the best fried chickens I've ever had. It was super flavorful, juicy, and so crispy! I definitely recommend getting the Chicken Knee; sounds weird but you won't regret it. Unfortunately I didn't catch the other two stall names -sob- all I know is that they are on the same side as the 1973 J+G Fried Chicken stall at the very end. Hopefully the picture attached helps you to identify which place it is! The Hainan Chicken Rice is the 2nd to the last stall and this was my favorite meal to eat. They give such a huge portion that it was enough to feed all 4 of us (with the other food we ordered) I have no idea what they marinate their chicken in but it was so addicting. I could eat a whole plate of this myself. The rice could be a bit better but it still complemented the chicken well. The very last stall I believe is really popular and well known for their dumplings. We got their Pan Fried Pork Dumplings and it was so good, especially the soup inside! This is a very Chinese mall and most shops have their prices or promotions and information in the Chinese language. Good luck if you cannot read it. I have not really walked throughout the entire mall as it seemed to be in a circular shape and could be confusing. Take a picture of where you parked your car or where you exited/entered. I mainly come here for the food court - plenty of Chinese food and bubble tea shops. Menu written in the Chinese language has more promo sets or specials. Alas I could not really read it to know. The "wet market" on the ground level has fresh meat and vegetables at decent prices. It is interesting and yet terrifying to venture in there. It is very similar to those in Asia except it is in an enclosed mall. The prices for preserved fruits and snacks are quite unbelievable. Super pricey. There are many travel agents here and also an area for cell phone shops. I replaced my phone screen protector in one of the shops and it was a job well done at a reasonable price too. There are a few shops selling home appliances and stuff. So it is a good place to come here and compare prices for your rice cookers and range hoods. Crystal Mall - the place to go Taiwanese people-watching in their natural habitat. The parking lot here is absolutely horrendous. Yes I'm sure a circle looks cool, but a) you waste a ton of space around the pillars, and b) the entire thing is one giant circular traffic jam. Dare I say it.. the lot at Aberdeen is better than this. Special mentions for this mall (once you get past the cheapo clothing stores and travel agencies): 1) the food court. Quite a few good places here! 2) the "computer alley" which is tucked away downstairs, and has its own separate corridor that runs parallel to the main circular ring. If my friend hadn't pointed this out, I would have no idea it existed. Fix your electronics for a reasonable price here. 3) the "ghetto-market" directly below the food court. Filled with Asian moms battling it out for cheapo bruised fruit and other smelly goodness. It really feels like Chinatown in this zone. Mall with the worse parking lot in BC. It might be worse parking lot in North America and even the whole world. Its not the way the people park that makes it the worse, its the design of the parking lot that makes it horrible. My dad has scratched his car in this parking lot because he drove a large family van and the turn was too narrow. I know a bunch of people who scratched their car here. If you look at the parking lot wall, you will see rainbow colors of streaks. Car Streaks. yes Car streaks paint! Whoever designed this parking lot must be on the Guinness of record for bad parking lot designer. Enough said... Well this is an Asian mall. Other then getting produce here or for me to pick up glasses, I don't see anything interesting about this place at all. Most of the shops are just useless to me. Like massage chair or toys or sport wear that I am not sure if they are real authentic brand. They have a few travel agency but again I get my tickets online and I hate making special trips when I could do it at my convenience. In my little review world, Crystal almost gets my 5 full stars, but it gets pretty close, like 4.5. Why you ask, well here's the review of my experiences with this mall. The food court, one of the best places to eat on the cheap. If you want Asian variety, here it is, from stalls that serve the XLB, Tawainese beef noodle, bubble tea, hong kong cafe type food, etc. Too much to name, but from the ones I have tried here, very tasty, and very affordable, and if your going during the lunch primetime, very packed. Even if your not hungry, it's hard to dodge this. Let's say your not looking to sit with everyone at the foodcourt, well then, go to a restaurant, there's tons in this mall, from a tofu hot pot place, northern Chinese delicacy, and even donair! You might actually run into the problem of "what should I eat, and where should I eat it, which drives you to eat nothing!" This is an Asian tailored mall, that has all things Asian, from the clothing, to the sweet treats, the toys, the cds and dvds, the electronics, the pots and pans, cellular stores, hair dressers, etc. And they are all at pretty good prices as well. For me, this mall is all about the food, even a Beard Papa's is nicely located, and hidden upstairs. There is a food market downstairs that is always busy, and it feels like how Chinatown should feel. From your meats to veggies, there are people everywhere, and did I mention this was a mall. The mall is oddly shaped, as it is circular, which means, you can walk the shop, and keep going in one direction, and eventually, you will be back at square one. The size of the mall is not too big, but just the right size. The only real trouble of this mall is the parking lot, as most often, log jams happen trying to get in this place. This is usually from people who think that they can do the "Chinatown wait" and hold up everyone while they sit there waiting for someone getting into their car on the first floor. If you can actually make it to the second floor of parking below, you shouldn't have a problem finding parking, and just like Metro, it's free! read more

I've been a frequent shopper at Crystal Mall and personally find it CM is perfect place for veggies /meats. I bought pork belly here for twice already and the price is definetely cheaper than T&T. It costs about $4.59 per lb and the amount I bought was more than a kg (my total was $12.50). And pork belly was actually good just that I have to cut them on my own. As for veggies they were cheaper than T&T as well. I bought 2 bundles of green onions and 2 pieces of Jalapeno which was total of $1.20. And also Gobo (burdock root) only costs as $1. Pretty cheap. I've also bought some dried noodles and tofu they were great as well. I wouldn't shop for anything else besides meat and veggies. Beauty shops and other stores are overly priced. Pros: meat and veggies are CHEAP. Cheaper than T&T and Kins (Kins Farm Market) for sure. Free wifi available, under City Wifi I think? Cons: line ups are always long. Also hours are wrong. 7PM is their closing time and working hours are ALWAYS inaccurate. They don't open till 9. Great place to buy groceries, however makeup and beauty stores are expensive. read more

This review is mainly on the food court.  They have so many choices, there's something for everyone.  We love the Xiao long bao, Roasted pork and Hand-pulled noodles.  A couple other places we like that are not in the food court but located downstairs; Cafe Eggtastic and Pine House Bakery.  Note...it can be challenging to find seating if you have a big group. I am Chinese, born and raised in Hong Kong. After graduated from high school and working for a few years I decided to emigrate from this city because I couldn't stand the rudeness and poor attitude of the citizens in general. Canada was a breath of fresh air. People here are polite, friendly and highly civil. I'm in my senior years now so I decided to move to Metrotown for the convenience. When I started shopping in the Crystal Mall it's déjà vu! Seems like all the people with bad attitude and rudeness have all moved here! It's really sad that these people moved to this wonderful country but never bother to assimilate into this society. I only hope that the Canadians realize that these people don't represent the good side of culture of another great country - China. read more

This mall is ok, the food court is nothing special, there's probably only 2 or 3 places I like to go to, the rest are average at best. The shops are mostly cell phone stores and some clothing shops. There's also some medicine shops and appliance shops (rice cookers etc.). The produce/meat floor downstairs is pretty good. Lots of vegetables, some bbq meat places, tofu, butchers, and of course bubble tea, they have a Pine House bakery there as well. Some of the owners of certain shops can be rude if you are not asian (or don't speak mandarin) Also most of the signs are in chinese so if you can't read the lingo it kinda sucks. I come here cuz it's close to home. Decent prices....overall it's ok...... read more

My parents had a lot of fun here. It reminded them of their days living in Taiwan. I thought this plaza was okay, though it was much different than the markets I've been to in Los Angeles. It was a huge shopping mall filled with little stores and restaurants. You can get so many awesome items that you can't find at the normal American grocery stores like hot water dispensers or bamboo ear pickers. lol. I wasn't that big of a fan. At 11 a.m. on a Saturday, this place was packed. I felt claustrophobic trying to buy some oranges. All these people were rushing to the fruit stands pushing and talking really loudly. As good as those oranges looked, I decided to forgo purchasing them because it was just too competitive. I also wasn't too fond of the idea of waiting 10 minutes in line for produce. It was kind of smelly on the exterior of the plaza. I think eventually, your nose gets adjusted to the smell of stinky fried tofu but the initial hit makes you want to gag. Overall, not a bad place to visit for fun. Oh yah, I forgot, don't bother negotiating with the vendors. I wanted to buy some bowls and my mom asked in Mandarin, "can you give us a discount?" I thought it was a harmless question. The woman abrasively said, "we're not in China!" and then turned away. I almost wanted to yell at her for dissing my momma but held my tongue. I don't live in Canada. I was there for Dim Sum. But, I think Crystal Mall is cool. A building 3-4 floors with banks, bakeries, clothing, retails, and somewhat traditional market. If you are from LA or ever been to LA and have visited San Gabriel Valley, you would think that there is a huge amount of Chinese people... but Crystal Mall is like... any plaza in San Gabriel... x10. The place is huge and just packed full of Asians, mostly Chinese. I seriously felt like I was in HK/Taiwan shopping. Shops are the ones you would typically find in HK and even in Taiwan. One of the shops that caught my attention was the "Cube" shop where people rent out cubes to sell their own things. They do it extremely well and many of the items sold are mostly imports from Far East. The food court is huge and all the food looks legit. Mostly Cantonese fare. There's also a market and a bakery from HK, St. Germaine. Parking lot is huge. Huge. read more

This mall itself doesn't much much to offer except the food court or the HSBC branch. Oh right, there's a Chinese grocery store downstairs too. Annnnd that's about it. Now the food court has some delicious menu items. This is where I get my Asian food or drink fix (ex - BBT). Other than that, I treat this place like a hotel. In and out! And the parking lot is a GD nightmare as well. There are times where I would park at Station Square Metrotown and walk across instead. Old Asian mall in Burnaby very close to Metrotown. Aesthetically not appealing but enough for me to keep coming back for Xiao long bao. I seriously love those buns and I think the cheapest yet best Xlb I found were located inside this mall. Shanghai dim sum is where it's at. There are sitting available but everytime I go it's always crowded. It's best to take out and eat elsewhere. There are several bubble tea shops in the mall but I recommend going to Eggstatic. They're at the first floor beside the escalators and the entrance. I would come back again for my XLB. read more

Out of all the malls available over here in BC, I would say this is probably a okay place to go to if you want to buy some Asian stuffs. They have a lot of produce at a decent price. They also have electronic stores that handles computers and cellphones. On the 2nd floor, they also have a pretty decent food court containing alot of delicious foods. But one of the only thing I would desperately recommend is that you WALK, YES WALK, to this place. The parking here is just nearly impossible to maneuver, especially when you drive down to the lower levels of the parking lots. Also lastly, I would recommend that you bring a bit of cash as most of the stores here do NOT accept credit cards. A few do, but generally most of the stores here doesn't because they want to avoid credit card fees and charges. read more

I would say this is the worst parking lot of Chinese mall in greater Vancouver!! It may take you forever to go down to parking. I went there on Sat afternoon and tried to get something to eat. I got stuck in parking lot over 20 mins and left!! I just parked somewhere else and walked over. Other than terrible parking, there are some good things in the mall. While we were up in Vancouver for the day, my boyfriend wanted to check out an "Asian Mall" - we leeched some business' wifi to look up Asian Malls and this was the first result. So we punched in the address and 30 minutes later, ended up in Crystal Mall. I stepped in the mall and I definitely felt like I was in Asia. Asia (well, in particular China and Taiwan, although I'm sure other Asian countries are the same) really like their multistory malls and the mall here definitely reminded me of those complexes. There was a supermarket on the first floor, and a food court on other floors. The rest of the floors had clothing and electronic shops. We had gone on a Saturday evening and most places seemed to have closed around 7pm, which is pretty early. The food court was alive and well though, but we got way too overwhelmed with the choices that we left. That's too bad though because some of the food looked amazing. Most if not all of the places here do not take Discover/JCB so you better come equipped with cash or with a Visa/Mastercard. read more

We had lunch at the Malay stall (Malaysian food) in the food court. it was good. The laksa and char kueh teow were very good. There was no msg as after 2 hours was not thirsty and I knew they used proper stuff to make the broth. Will go back again for the delicious food when I am back in Vancouver. Since we were there we bought buns, etc at The Boss bakery, another good place for buns. Too bad I don't live in Vancouver as the market had fresh vegetables and fruit. I typically come here to eat my own food from home after working out at a nearby gym. While there are signs saying that outside food isn't allowed in the food court, it's probably during peak hours since I haven't been given any trouble when I eat my own food. Of the times I bought from their vendors, the food has been just okay. Nothing outstanding but it definitely helped satisfy my hunger. Some food court vendors have pretty good deals so you will want to have a look around to find something that suits your cravings and budget. The vendors themselves have been friendly. I'm usually here pretty "late," meaning the cellphone shops and wet market are closed and only a few of the food court vendors are still open. The hours on the doors say that they're open until 9 pm but really, most of the downstairs shops as well as the wet market are closed by 7 pm. Most of the food court choices are closed by 7 pm as well. Be prepared to pay by cash, although you can withdraw cash at an ATM in the food court. I've also bought a cellphone case and had a screen fixed from vendors downstairs. Much better value than what you would find in Metro. If you wanna save some $, come here instead. Although I've never bought from the wet market, they seem to have a good variety of things to sell. The soy/tofu vendor has good deals on tofu pudding and blocks of tofu. read more

Despite the parking, I usually just part across the street (at save on) and walk to Crystal Mall. I usually come here for two things... cheap eats (usually anything sweet, it. bbt, bakery, candyland etc.. and electronics ie. memory cards, R4 cards, headsets etc.. I hear the grocery is quite good as well. I try to limit my trips here, as my blood pressure rises each time I enter this mall. I hope you have better luck than me. :( read more

Like the other reviewer mention, you literally feel yourself back in Asia when you are in this mall. The lower floor is for grocery shops, deli, Chinese herb shop, cellular service shops etc. The veggies and fruits here are cheaper and fresher than the ones you get from T&T. Unfortunately Instacart won't deliver groceries from here otherwise I would have signed up for their yearly plan without a blink. The deli shop they sell bbq pork, roasted duck etc. the quality of food you are getting really depends on who you are. Every time my mom shops here she was always able to get the good ones as she knows what to pick, but every time I shop here I always end up getting bad ones as they know I don't know sh*t so they just give me the sh*tty ones instead. I haven't been to their cellular shops but i spot at least two different shops here, one is fido the other one is bell I think. Theses also a bakery shop as well, even though the selection is very limited given that the small itself was small. Taste-wise was nothing spectacular. The second floor is their food court with plenty of seats available. This is kinda a dupe of the 太古广场 in Toronto, but just much much smaller. If you have been to 太古广场 and you're expecting a somewhat similar experience here, I am sorry you will be disappointed. The Asian vibe is just, just, not at that level yet. Also, a pro tip, If you see a crowded shop, go line up! If you see some shops aren't that busy please don't bother. I am sure local people already know which shop has good food. Don't take your risk, otherwise it's gonna be a waste of money and a waste of your calorie budget. Crystal mall is definitely a nice supplement to the metro town shopping center near by, and it caters the growing Chinese community in Burnaby. If you aren't Chinese and you want to come get a somewhat Asian market/food experience, it could be a good choice as well. read more

Crystal Mall... oh how I love thee..! Note: I'm writing this based on the food court alone...because once I saw the food court, I was too smitten to look anywhere else! If you've ever been to Asia, you'll appreciate the nostalgia of being in the Crystal mall food court. Plentiful cuisines to choose from, no typical Canadian chains (I think one may have been from an Asian chain, but I could be wrong), multiple bubble tea options, XLB, peanut spiced noodles, etc., etc., I was overjoyed to come here and for a moment let myself believe that I was overseas again. Don't I wish! The food isn't crazy cheap, but it is reasonable and the variety is fantastic. In many cases is made right before your eyes... and I, being a food freak, like that. One drawback: all the plastic waste. Please be green and pack some kind of container with you to avoid throwing out a table full of plastic food containers. At the very least, it would be nice to know that the plastic goes into some sort of recycling bin, but there's only a garbage bin available (correct if I'm wrong). Elbows out + Cash on Hand = Crystal Mall Ready. It's a jungle in there! As far as Chinese shopping malls go, this place is as real as it gets. It's not pretty, it's not fancy, it's not even all that clean; but you'll find fresh, good quality fruits & veggies, eggs, meat, spices, and asian treats at a fraction of western super market prices. Upstairs from the marketplace is the food court, and what really makes a trip to Crystal Mall worth it. My advice to first-timers is to find the place with the longest line and join it. On the off chance it's a slow day and no lines are to be found, some of the more famous places & their offerings are: - Wang's Shanghai Cuisine's (XLB's) - Favor Eat World's (Taiwanese Beef Noodles) - Huaxi Noodles Specialist (House Beef Noodle) - Want Want Hot & Spicy House (Lamb "Burgers") Crystal Mall isn't for everybody - it doesn't need to be. I had never been to an Asian mall until I came here last week! Wow!! That's all I can say. I love that you can get some awesome Chinese food for really cheap in the food court! And bubble tea galore! I shall be back. Probably just for the food. Maybe some produce grocery shopping. read more

I only go to Crystal Mall for Wang's juicy dumplings! In fact, I used to go there so often when I lived near the mall, that the owners would get really excited to see me and start making my dumplings right away. They also had a garlicky cucumber salad that was DELICIOUS but that was summer 2007 and it might not be on the menu anymore (it was just written on a card at that time). Seriously, though. SERIOUSLY! These are the best dumplings anywhere. They pretty much melt and explode in your mouth, and the juice is perfect. I would write this review on their yelp page (linked in another review here) but then I'd be afraid people wouldn't notice it. If you haven't tried Wang's you must. Other reasons to go to the mall: Lots of neat stuff to look at (but most are a little pricey in the boutiques), manga is often cheaper there than Metro if you can find a sale, and if you wear colour contacts but don't need a prescription, many optometry stores will sell you samples without an Rx.
