I often forget about The Crushed Grape but decided to stop by recently as we were finishing some shopping at Aldi and it was snowing pretty hard, so it was convenient. They were setting up for free wine tastings, which they do every Saturday at noon. One of the employees said that they get a lot of regulars who come in for the tastings as a fun way to kick off their weekend. We were really just looking for some drinks to enjoy, so we didn't stick around for the wine tastings. The shop is super chock full and they definitely are making use of every square inch of the store. I felt a little claustrophobic with shelves super close together and things everywhere you looked. I was also worried about bumping into things on the shelves. There's even an upstairs with more wine! The name makes me think of wine for sure, but The Crushed Grape also has a beer, seltzer, cider, and spirits, as well as gift items, snacks, charcuterie board accoutrements, mixers, barware, etc. I was a little overwhelmed with everything in there and couldn't really tell if the beverages were organized by type or region, etc. If you're looking for anything specific, I would just ask, otherwise be prepared to browse. There were only about five other people in the store at the time but I just felt so crowded. I couldn't imagine being in there at full capacity. They didn't have the cider I was looking for (I'd tried it at the International Beer, Wine, and Food Festival the previous night) but I was able to snag a case of some seltzer I had also tried at the festival. read more

I recently moved into Grand Rapids and found this amazing gem of a place. I walked in and right away Ben offered to help me find something. Out of the 3 items I was looking for, two were available. The third... Ben worked with his coworker on finding it and is getting it ordered for me to pick up this week. Great place, amazing selections of spirits and wine. The Crushed Grape is always a go-to when I visit GR! Not only do they have a good beer and a great wine selection, but the employees are always friendly and helpful. Love the crushed grape! The selection is huge and it's a great place to go to get recommendations. Before the pandemic they would have tasting sessions on the weekends, I am really looking forward to that coming back. They keep a neat array of frozen treats and small specialty snacks. They do cost more but having some place to go where you can get help picking out that perfect bottle of wine or craft beer is so nice. read more

They have a huge wine selection, but if you don't know much about wine (me) it can be a little over-whelming. They have a decent beer selection also, but it's a bit overpriced. Next time I hope to try some of the local food stuff they have available. It would be nice to get a little more help from the staff, but overall the place was nice and I'd go back. read more

The selection here is fantastic. Truly a gem that I don't want to the whole world to know because secretly (not so secret anymore) I want to just love on the place. Their customer service is superb. Always extremely helpful when locating something in the store, looking up to see if they carry such item or willing to research an item to see if it would be worth their while carrying it in the store. This to me is great customer service, when you sincerely care about the customers' needs. More times than not, I find exactly what I came in for. I really appreciate their extensive craft beer selection, from bombers, to sixers to singles, they have most options available for you. There is even a cooler section that has a lot nice a cold and ready for your sipping needs! They have a great selection of liquors, mixers, barware, fun hostess gifts and michigan love items too! Ok, I have shopped here for a couple of years and have been in much more than a few times. I admit, I first came here out of convenience but the selection was decent and I always strive to support local businesses, so I kept coming back. During this time, I did notice that some of the staff were not very friendly, but others were affable and helpful. Over time, however, I became surprised at how poorly I was sometimes treated. The owner in particular could be almost hostile at times. I'm not saying that folks should automatically treat a regular customer better than others, but I would advise going the extra mile to avoid giving them bad service. My last experience there happened a few days after I made a considerable purchase. I came back looking for more of the same items I had bought and the owner was not just dismissive, he was actually rude to me. Being a business owner myself, I found this type of treatment totally unacceptable, especially from someone responsible for running the place. In reading several reviews of The Crushed Grape, I find my feelings validated. I'm forced to conclude that The Crushed Grape does not deserve the business it gets and I will definitely not be back. I have since been shopping at other venues with much, much better service and selection. read more

Great selection and the store looks great. Horrible service though. Tried to ask a question and was told "Just a minute," just so she could walk 5 feet away and pick up an empty basket. Then while I was in the middle of checking out, the same women left me standing at the register while she left to help someone else who had a question. Really? Update: Well, I thought that maybe my first experience was a fluke, so I thought I'd give this place another try. I found what I needed, then stood in line for 5 minutes while the employee chatted up the couple in front of me. When that was finally over, he didn't even look at me and turned to help the people who just got there. Maybe if people don't look like wine snobs, they don't care? I have no idea why they would be so rude to some people, but so helpful to others. I ended up going to Martha's Vineyard, where the employees were very friendly and helpful. If the world were ending, and the Crushed Grape had the last supply of alcohol on the planet, I would go thirsty rather than give another dime to these pompous asswipes. read more

Immense selection of wine, spirits and cheeses as well as craft beers. Helpful staff and if you have a specific wine that you enjoy, they'll do what they can to stock it or find something comparable. Some of the comments re: staff is spot on - they can be a bit "standoffish," but overall a great place to find a variety of wines. read more

Friendly staff; wide selection of ciders, sour beers, and many other interesting beers; and a clean, classy atmosphere. However, the last 3 ciders (different brands over the span of several months) purchased have been either off or actually "turned". No cider snob here, but I wonder if the problem lies in their storage: they are placed primarily in a window, leading to significant temperature fluctuations. The man who appeared to be the owner helped me pick a bloody mary mix that is going to be a gift for a friend. He was knowledgeable about all the varieties they carried and I took his recommendation and purchased Dr. Strangelove mix for my friend. The women working the front register offered to add some tissue paper and a cute bag to complete the gift. They made buying this super easy and enjoyable. I even learned a thing or two about bloody mary mixes in the process! In addition, they have a great selection of wines, spirits, mixes, local and unique treats and goodies. read more

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. This place is fantastic! The selection is amazing, the prices are right (lower than Meijer!) and the people could not be nicer. They are extremely helpful when you want help but leave you to browse for hours... because I can do that in a liquor store... if that's how you get down. My favorite thing about them is that they understand that as much as I love wine, I do not want to buy $30+ bottles on a regular basis. I am a $10-12 bottle person but will fill a 6er of them and they are perfect for that. They have loads of great inexpensive choices but also carry the lovelies if I am going for something special as well. Also, the beer selection is great! You can have tons of fun with the beers that they have! I also love that they have them all room temp and cold to suit your needs. I have been pillaging their vast cider collection this summer and it has been a blast! If you have not been here: go immediately. You will be so happy you did!! read more

Been there twice. I think the selection is great. Not only do they have my beloved Strongbow but a good wine selection as well. I like the look of the place and found Emily to be great. However, the reason I gave it 2 stars was that on my second visit I got a pack of Strongbow which at $9.09, rang up at $10.04. When I inquired, the owner(?) treated me rudely. First he tried to say it was due to deposit and tax. Well, I know that the cans don't have MI deposit as I buy the stuff all the time. Then stated that it was just tax. That's not mathematically possible. The thing that gets me is that he was such a jerk. 'How dare I question him?'. I'll be going to Martha's from now on. At least they are nice to everyone! Any liquor store can order the same drinks at no charge, so there's no point in coming to the Crushed Grape. The owner is always helpful in picking out good choices and is good for a conversation about beer or wine. All the staff are very knowledgeable about their products. I'm not a big wine person, but they look like they have a very extensive collection. The beer side is where I tend to go. I've heard so many good things about The Crushed Grape so I had to check it out for myself. I stopped in to grab a bottle of Makers Mark and was greeted at the door by two very pleasant employees who were getting ready to close down for the night. The store was very well put together and organized. The employees seemed genuinely happy to help me find what I was looking for and were very conversational while I was there. Needless to say I was not disappointed and I will be back. I didn't get a chance to browse the wine selection so that is top priority next time! read more

I couldn't be happier with The Crushed Grape. When I left the SW side, I wondered where I could go to find wine recommendations - The Crushed Grape fills that role perfectly. They make recommendations, help you choose, and have small tastings on most Saturday afternoons. It was there that I learned I hate IPA brews and love mead. The staff has always been excellent and go above and beyond when assisting customers. I got my sister a wine stand there for Christmas and they worked REALLY hard to wrap it perfectly even though wrapping it was not expected or necessary. Seriously, as a frequent customer, I can't say enough good things about them. Check them out and tell them the chick with the Hogwarts scarf sent you. read more

Sure, It's a place where you can venture around upstairs and check out cool wine bottles. The atmosphere is exceptionally cool for a liquor joint. But again, the man working there was incredibly indifferent to the point of hardly any interaction. I'm surprised by this since mostly every other person in GR is quite the opposite. They seem genuinely comfortable to engage with the customer. I'm not sure if he just had a bad day, but by the looks of other reviews here, I'm not alone. With that said, decent prices, great selection, but another case of disappointing, subpar customer service that made me leave with a frown. I suggest stepping up you CS as Meijer is right across the street and has a preety good selection. The customer service makes a HUGE difference when spending my $ now.
