Lovely pub in up and comming Fishponds. The pub its self is very nice on the eye. And outside you are greeted with a sunny seating area where you can watch the world go by. Inside the place is tastefully decorated. With books and board games to entertain. We came here on Thursday for steak night 2 x steaks and a bottle of decent wine for 30. And we were not disappointed ! I particularly advise getting yer mits on the onion rings they are lush ! Also the chips are tripple cooked and super good ! And to top it off the steak was of decent cut and cooked very well. The rest of menu is an interesting boarderline pretentious affair but hey this is a Gastropub ! The staff are an absolute delight very chatty and knowledgeable. I feel I shall be returning to this establishment again !

A lovely local pub in Winterbourne Down…read more This has been my family's local pub for around 20 years and it hasn't changed one bit. It's still as charming, still has the same locals, still the same landlord and, I think, still the same roaring log fire. The Cross Hands doesn't do food, but it does do lots of guest ciders, ales and a brilliant atmosphere. The landlord and landlady (Pete and Lesley) are great (Pete is the spitting image of Peter Stringfellow - with open shirt and hairy chest) and make you feel like part of the furniture - which can make leaving quite difficult at times! Friday nights are good fun. Typical local pub style. A bit of cheese on the jukebox and a good mix of young'ens and old'ens to keep it interesting from one end of the pub to the other. But the best thing about this pub isn't its huge back garden. It isn't the fact you can use one of their massive BBQ's and bring your own meat/food. It isn't even the regular events they hold in the summer with live bands and cider in boxes. The best thing about the Cross Hands is the pub dog. A beautiful Staffordshire Bull terrier who has the gentlest demeanour and wonderful personality. She'll pin her belly to the ground and wiggle her way over to say hello. All the while snorting like a little pig. She has her own arm chair and sits with the locals who play cards on the big round table from 4pm every day. This is a lovely little boozer that has a huge garden for the summer and wonderful warm log fire for the winter. As it is out of town, you can knock 40-80p off the price of pint. A must if you're in the area.

This place has tons of character and a great choice of beers ciders and ales all at a very reasonable price. There is a beautiful big garden out back or benches out front if you fancy just sitting and watching the world drift by. Pete the barman is one of lifes winners always there with a warm welcome and a joke or two for you to enjoy. Stick a lepord print thong on him and marvel at the way he transform into Peter Stringfellow oh yeah ! All in all a class bozzer in the country.

It has tv screens for sports, and darts and pool table. The garden was my favourite, like being sat in your nans back garden with lots of little orniments and flower pots. felt right at home! Friendly staff and they aprently do homecooked meals which ill have to come back try one day. There was lots of choice of booze and a proper pub atmposhere :)

There's not much else down Lodge Causeway, so you'd think they'd have the monopoly, although the several occasions I've visited its been dead inside. Not exactly the social scene of Bristol, this end of town anyway. The food is basic fayre, although the sarnies and chips are of generous size and the list of fillings is extensive. The best thing I can think is that they sell the rather unusual ale, Sharp's Doombar, a dark bitter brewed down in Cornwall. You can't find it everywhere, so a pub selling it on tap is worth a visit. The jukebox is stocked with standard indie and dance tunes, so sit back in one of the large leather chairs and dream an evening away, if you so happen to venture this far out of the city centre.

Popped in twice now for food at lunch and once on a Saturday night…read more Both times the food has been great. Great diner style cheesburger, really enjoyed it. 2nd occasion for Sunday lunch was equally top drawer. The landlord apparently grows his own vedge in the local allotment and you could really tell it was fresh. Also the landlady was really friendly and went out of her way to make us all feel welcome. They put on a lot of live music there on weekends which is great! The Saturday night we were there was a lot busier, they had a few colourful locals in. Not being from the area the natives are taking some getting used to!! That's in no way a criticism of the venue! I think all in all they're doing a fantastic job with the place. Good quality food, Friendly staff and encouraging local live music. If this pub was in the city centre it would easily give the Hatchet and Crown a run for their money as alt venues go. Cheers!

I had just been on a very long journey and was desperate for the toilet so thought I'd harmlessly go as I was staying there for the evening anyway. I was glared at by all as I walked in, went to go into the toilet and was shouted at 'toilets are for customers only', I said I was just going before I ordered my drink and they didn't believe me. I felt terrified, and as I walked out they were talking about saying I looked weird as well. Needless to say, my friend arrived and we went somewhere else. Most unwelcome I have ever ever felt.
