Along came the successful Mezze chain of pubs, spent thousands on a full refurbishment and now you have a beautiful bar/restaurant with a lovely beer garden. If you've not been to one of the Mezze pubs then you are missing out. The menu offers a large selection of vegetarian, meat or fish Mezze at 4.50 a dish or 3 for £12. The portions are generous and the food lovely. The also offer a lighter lunch time menu with sandwiches, wraps, salads and smaller hot Meals. I've tried many things on the menu and it's all really good.

The premises itself is well kept and they have a lovely wood fire. The staff are always friendly and they do good beer. There's a large beer garden out back for the summers. It went through a big refurb a few years back and the interior is homely and comfy. The food is generally of a good standard, however I have had the odd disappointing dish. My recommendation is to go for the specials as they are always good! It's not the cheapest but that is normally reflected in the quality. The service can also be a little slow during busy periods.

This is a rather drab little pub sitting on the cusp of Sea Mills and Stoke Bishop. It still gets…read morequite busy though, mainly due to the lack of any local comptition. (Local legend has it that Sea Mills was founded by Quakers which means that pubs are not allowed in the vicinity.) Other than this, there isn't a great deal to recommend it. It's a one room establishment, albeit on a split level, with an unremarkable interior, seating out the front and a local clientele strangely split between those from well to do Stoke Bishop and the notably less salubrious Sea Mills. There's a pic of David Jason on the wall enjoying a pint at the bar during a break from filming (Boycey's garrish mock mansion is around the corner), but despite this when I lived in the area I still preferred to make the mile or so walk to the better pubs in Westbury-on-Trym.

For as little as £2, you can sign them into the soft play area and keep a watchful eye through the glass window as you enjoy a meal and a relaxing drink - heaven! If you're little ones are of the clingy variety, you can choose to sit inside the play area itself, but be warned there is a lingering aroma of urine. Obviously little toddlers can't help the odd accident, but I'd suggest that the staff need to give the room and equipment a good clean to get rid of the niggling aroma. The food's not bad either, although my order was lost in the rush. That said, anyone can have a bad day and the staff were apologetic and reimbursed us for our trouble. In all, a great find if you can stand the smell!
