After running a pub myself I know these are all things to not take from granted. The Park has a real party atmosphere, where you'll never know who you'll meet, but you're guaranteed to be talking to a stranger by the end of the night. Sometimes a victim of its own success, The Park can get a little crowded at the weekend but Fridays and Saturdays are definitely the best night to go.

The music here has always been spot on, with good hip hop, funk & soul (not the rubbish from the charts). This is a slightly more upmarket experience. We used to head here after work, because the drinks are so tasty and you can always find a great place to sit and chat with your mates. It attracts a slightly older crowd, in some cases people still living the dream who really should know better. One guy, although lovely and friendly (who wouldn't be at slightly less than sober 3 in the morning) did remind me of my dad. Some might say this is a classier crowd with a bit more cash to splash or simply with better, more expensive tastes. But it's mostly cool people who like to go out to bars, drink a lot of good booze in a tasteful place. This is a great bar to meet new people, due to the great atmosphere The Park has created it doesn't feel strange to strike up a conversation with a stranger here, and you can't say that about everywhere (especially in the UK). The entry prices on the door are pretty hilarious. They seem to be on a sliding scale depending on the time of night, how full the bar is and whether or not the bouncer likes the look of you. We spent some time talking with some of the folks here Mark behind the bar served this breakfast and Sally came down and chatted with us for a while and it was just not the type of experience that you'd find at a chain hotel it was very real very comfortable and one that we'd certainly want to return to.

Unlike some of the others (in Bristol anyway) it's actually quite large and being quite close to the Memorial Ground it attracts a large group of lager swilling Gas Heads on a Saturday afternoon. The food they serve is of the brasserie or ponced up British variety, but is fairly inexpensive for what you get (which is good). The other thing of note is the large garden which plays host to an annual music festival there and live music on Sunday evenings. With not a juke box, fruit machine or pool table in sight, it's an odd mix at times but a pretty decent boozer in my book.

As you walk through the door, "The Summerhouse" is pretty dingy with 90's decor and not many smiley faces. I ordered a pint of Bass, my partner order a cider. The barman seemed friendly. In our search for light, we opted to walk upstairs where we were greeted by an enormous empty restaurant. When we asked the waitress if we could sit in the light and airy restaurant, she refused us. They must have been expecting a party of 150 people for roast dinners.... Back downstairs, we sat in the lounge. I supped my pint, it didn't taste great. Dirty lines perhaps? I like my beer, I didn't like this pint of Bass. Although me and my partner enjoy each others company, we couldn't finish our drinks quick enough. Leaving us feeling that "The Summerhouse" was more "Outhouse". We won't be back.

They do a good range of shooters - last time I was here I tried the more lethal concoction of Jagermeister, Goldschlagger and Midori, which went down surprisingly well, and at £3.50 was an adequate, but not cheap, price for a shooter like that. They do have a table service, even if you're just drinking, which is quite helpful and surprising, you really don't expect that in Bristol. Also the staff here seem to be unfailingly attractive - I'm sure the management must have some sort of ploy going on, but I'm sure there's not too many complaints. As well as a main menu of good pub type food, they do a range of set menus, including buffets, BBQs and a more gormet set menu. The food is an excellent quality, and I actually think fairly priced for the standard. The only drawback the menus other than the main are only available to large groups, but the main one is pretty wide ranging. Maybe a bit boring, but I advise the burger, a beer, a bit of sunshine and have a chill in the patio area - it'll do your soul good.

The menu is not as diverse and not customizable or very innovative. But really the main reason for 2 stars and not 3 is the staff. Arrogant and sometimes rude. Judged mental and superficial. Their Prerogative obviously as a speakeasy but I have personally not encounter this behavior from any of the speakeasy cocktail bars around the world that I have been to. Still better than your average bar, but I don't recommend it unless you're very dressed up and not on your own.

I've always seen Toto's as a good lunchtime venue on a sunny day due to its picturesque location. Its situated opposite the Apple and the Spyglass, there are houseboats down the way and its so pleasant sitting on the terrace overlooking the view down welsh back and to the right of castle park. Food prices are fairly reasonable too and its got a good range of drink.

True everyman pub fashion. The bowl of nachos was good! The slow braised beef was tender and flavorful, the salsa, sour cream, and cheese sauce all mixed well with the sturdy chips. And the portion was perfect for dinner. My only request would have been a separate bowl of chips so that an optimal ratio of toppings could have been achieved. Decent price, quick service, and charming atmosphere coming with good food to ensure if definitely come back and maybe try the pie next time.

I've never quite understood why it's so dark inside; perhaps it's to accommodate the flinching hangovers of students hiding out here after lectures. With loads of comfortable seating, it's a really great place for drinking outside in the warmer months. Large groups of students do tend to assemble out here for smokes and loud chats of the "oh my God, I was so drunk last night" variety, so steer clear if you don't like that kind of thing. On offer at the bar are some very cheap sandwiches which are friendly to the student wallet. All in all, it's pandering to the student clientele, but that's not surprising, and doesn't seem to have put off the older locals who still come here for a cheap pint in what is essentially a traditional pub.
