let me preface this by saying i have never gone into crab shack and had to place an order and wait for it. i've ordered from them twice through postmates and got fed up with postmates' horrible customer service and decided that in the future, I would be picking up my order any time i had a craving for seafood. i generally love crab shack. it's comparable to the price of other seafood spots. and i pretty much get the same thing all the time when i hit it up once every month or so -- jumbo shrimp and snow crab. i pre order and pick up, and usually pay a visit during the week, and have yet to experience a long wait. admittedly they don't have the most quick or efficient system of getting customers in and out, but the employees have always been pleasant every time i've been in there and i've never had a bad experience. with that being said i really wish i could give a full 5 but unfortunately i don't get consistency with every visit. sometimes the shrimp is overcooked, there's too little butter sauce, too little or too much old bay or too much parsley. (or oregano whichever one they use lol). But when they get it right, it's amazing. Unless i have an absolutely unacceptable experience (hopefully I don't jinx myself) I will continue to be a regular. read more

Crab Shack has truly fallen off and has gotten worse each year over the past recent years. made a purchase today and the $5 blue crabs were very mid and they had no male crabs. I ordered half dozen of their "$6" bluebell crabs and some jumbo shrimp. The shrimp were fine. The crabs seemed really small. I should watch the cashier pick my crabs and or looked at the platter prior to leaving this location. I asked for the crabs to be heated up. But when I was giving my aluminum platter it wasnt hot at all. It was barley warm. Get home and open the platter its so much butter sauce. I had to rinse my crabs. Once I started cracking them open I noticed the shell wouldnt crack easily it was more so rubber like. As I'm eating the crabs the meat is mushy and some spots are cold and others warm. If I didn't live so far away I would've went back for a refund!! I'm pissed wasted my money and time! read more

Like they had been reheated multiple times or over cooked although some crabs were partially frozen. ‍ shrimp were severely overcooked Seasoning was ok. I was shorted on the amount of crabs i purchased. Wasn't worth driving back. I highly doubt I will ever go back. I sautéed it myself after realizing how terrible they were. 4/5/24 p.m. - On Friday, I went to the Crab Shack 2 on Rising Sun Avenue to purchase crabs; I went inside to find a lady with auburn/brown braids sitting on the food wrapping station eating crabs, fingers in mouth... Licking her fingers and using the white plastic fork to clean the crab from the inside of her teeth. I said hello, and she looked over, wiped her hand on a paper napkin and proceeded to ask what I wanted to order. It was the most disgusting experience, she didn't even wash her hands so I respectfully said, never mind, no thanks and proceeded to leave the store. Watching someone suck on there fingers and crabs before handling food for the public is absolutely disgraceful. I will NEVER go to this store again and should have known that something was wrong by the fact that the store was empty on a Friday evening. read more

I came in for some blue crabs today around 5:30. I wasn't really sure what I wanted but I had plenty of time to think about it. There was a line that snaked around the entire perimeter. From the door, past all the cases, to the cashier and back to the door. They seem to have their system and manage as best they can to accommodate the crowd. I noticed that they do have on line ordering available and they also, unlike other businesses of the same type, answer their phone. By the time I was called up to the cashier it was well beyond 6:00. I was happy to order however because I saw freshly steamed blues being loaded into the case while I waited and they were a pretty good size. I got a half dozen and they dressed them up in some garlic butter for me. I was only out of pocket 7.49, 1.00 per crab 1.00 for the sauce plus tax. Mind you, my crabs were whole but you can also get them cleaned for an additional wait. read more

My husband wanted some crabs so he asked me go here on my way home. 45 minutes in line and I'm not sure why. It just moved very slowly with the 2 ladies taking orders. Some people were getting platters and others steamed crabs. It seemed like they were waiting until each order was ready before the next person was waited on. They definitely need a separate cashier to keep the line moving. They have a large selection of crabs, mussels, oysters, salads(macaroni, seafood, etc), crab cakes plus some assorted desserts (carrot cake, brownies, cheesecake slices), water ice, slushees and other cold drinks. All I wanted was his crabs and to get home. It's a neighborhood spot so I'm sure the regulars are used to the wait. I should have called ahead. Next time I know better. I will never go here again. I wasted money 3 times thinking maybe it will get better. The 1st time I went it was ok the blue crabs $4 were super small but the flavor was good. 2nd time the crabs were smaller and half were not edible because they were mushy and over cooked. The last time I went I had to throw the whole pan of crabs away the potatoes were burnt which made the garlic butter taste burnt the broccoli undercooked and no flavor and alll the crabs were mushy/overcooked. They dip the crabs to either make them hotter. Oh and I'm surprised L & I hasn't shut this place down it's super dirty inside like cakes of dirty everywhere. I been coming to this particular locations of decades, but over the last year or so, I can't help but feel disconnected against by the black cashier with the beard. I'm a lesbian woman, and every single time I come there and he's working, I witness him be polite and patient with other women coming in, but when it's my turn, he's either trying to take someone else that came in after me, or he's super short. My crabs are ALWAYS short when he's bagging them, and the last time I went there, he asked what kind of seafood I'd like. I asked for the $5 one. He repeated it, and say my bags on the counter and proceeded to walk away to help another woman. Not ever acknowledging that our transaction was indeed done, and after like 45 seconds of him realizing I was still standing there, he turned around and said here man. And then walked away again. Honestly the only reason I still come here is because I enjoy their food when I can't make it myself, but I'm a long time customer that has been coming there before his employment, and would love for someone to speak to him about customer service, regardless of a person's orientation and or gender. It's 2024, there's no reason to treat the LGBT community this way when their patronizing a company you just work for. It's not a good look. My boyfriend and I was craving for some seafood and decided to stop in here since our usual place was closed for the day . I honestly think their seafood was a little pricey compared to other places I've been too and on top of that everything else had to be order as a side instead of having it as a platter . My go-to here is the steamed shrimp and crabs with old bay seasoning And you can't leave here without a container of their Seafood Salad. Honestly is it the BEST seafood salad I have EVER had! The crab shack is strictly a take-out joint, aside from a few picnic tables outside. The lines here can get pretty long. I've driven by this place so many times and never got anything from it. It's amazing how much of a hidden little gem this joint is. My grandfather and I went in there to get a dozen steamed crabs this afternoon, service was quick, friendly and the prices were EXTREMELY reasonable. The crabs were delicious. Plenty of meat, just like the kind we used to catch down the shore. They sell shrimp and other seafood items as well like king crab legs, seafood salad and crab sticks, and I believe clams. Yum.
