If you are looking for an upscale barbering experience, then this is place to come. These folks truly are artisan of their craft. Even at a premium price, you definitely get what you pay for, and then some. That also doesn't seem to phase guys since this place is always busy and you really need to time your appts. I prefer to get my haircut at upscale barbers, because quite frankly, I don't want my hair looking like crap. The two haircuts I had with Brandon has been two of the best haircuts I've had since moving to ATL four years ago. I've been blessed with hair that grows straight out and suffer from "mushroom head" once it's time to go back to the shop. I don't know what Brandon does, but I've never had this happen between cuts when getting my haircut here. Came for the first time because I was looking forward to a good straight razor shave. It honestly was a pretty disappointing one. Not only did I not receive the massage that was stated on the website, the shave wasn't even thorough, as I had missed areas. With that amount of effort, I would've just shaved myself. Definitely a waste of $40. Why entice customers with a detailed description of the shave when all you actually give is a half-hearted approach? The barber was really cool and nice which is why I still paid. But had it been different, I wouldn't have. My advice, if you're not going to give a good shave, then don't make it sound like you'll receive a good one online. Complete waste of my time and money. read more

I've never paid more than $20 for a haircut and I always got haircuts that reflected that. Quick buzzers and 15 minutes later I got my haircut. Nothing special, function over fashion. Then one day I woke up and decided, no more of this. I wanted to look fly as hell, get my hair on point and my beard looking like a Greek God's. I signed up for the Admiral package, hair and beard. This is the place. Hands down a great experience, not just a haircut. They offer beer, coffee and water for your enjoyment. I've been going to The Commodore for close to a couple of years now when it was just Rob and his previous partner in a different location. I was his partners client at the time. Rob decided to do his own thing and create his own image of how he wanted to run his business. After a couple of unsatisfactory cuts with his former partner, I went to Rob at his new location he opened early last year and I haven't looked back. I was amazed at how nice it was and how much dedication and hard work it took to make his dream his reality. Congrats bro. The detail and precision executed by all of the barbers here are second to none. I've never really looked forward to getting my haircut because I've always viewed it as just an average experience just to look a little more clean cut at other barbershops/salons. Don't be intimidated by the small shop, this is the place to come for a chop. Although the barbershop may be small, it has plenty of character. Brandon Michael, my fav barber in town, is a very friendly and talkative guy. Rest assured, he'll do a great job on the Foil Fade when you're in there. After the busy days preparing my relocation to Seattle, it was nice to just shut my brain off and get a relaxing cut from Brandon while chatting about nothing and everything. So after several months, I finally stopped going and went with another salon. Let me list some reasons I brought it down a bit. - It became harder to book, which is great for business. So I'm happy for the guys, but I had to look at least a week out or more to get a time I wanted. - It was ALWAYS running late. Every trip I took was delayed at least 30 minutes. Not sure if it's from too closely packed appointments, or from late customers, but the guy on time shouldn't have to wait on a regular basis. - I'm not sure why, but Rob wasn't keen on shampooing. I asked one time, and got redirected to the hair vacuum cleaner. Second time I asked, it was kinda rushed, probably related to point above. The shampoo at the end of one of my favorite parts of a hair salon experience; not to mention, it saves me from having hair fall on me the rest of the day. And it's not like I minded the price or anything either. - At the end of the day, if you want a more fashionable hairstyle with fade, this is your place. My cut is a little simpler. I can't justify the price for what I got back. The owner responded to my updated review, and being someone who likes to respond, this is what I have to say: "3/2/2017 Kaung, Im not sure what prompted you to demote your review 10 months since your last service with us - but let me address below: 1.) Yes, we are usually fully booked at least a week out. Im not sure why we should be penalized for that in your yelp review. This means there are a lot of folks out there who value what we do and are deeply satisfied with what they get for the price. 2.) We communicate very clearly in the confirmation email that is sent when you book, that appointment times are approximations, that there are a variety of factors that can cause us to run behind (rarely ever more than 15 minutes), and that if you have particular time restraints we will do our best to accommodate. And if/when we run behind, we always send a courtesy heads up text which I noticed we did once for you. If you read the confirmation email, then that expectation would have been set. 3.) It is not that Rob is not keen on shampooing, you just didnt book a shampoo with your service. Once again, there is a detailed description of your service when you book an appointment. If you would like us to shampoo your hair, we would be glad to, you just need to book that so we have sufficient time and there are no aspects of the service that feel rushed. If we did squeeze in a shampoo for you once without you booking a shampoo, again, why should we be penalized for this? Wish you the best" 1. Every strength can be a weakness at the same time. Like I said, I'm happy that you guys are having success and getting packed schedules. That's great. But as a customer, I want people to know that they'll have to make something in advance if they want a spot, especially if it's coveted slot like 5:30pm or something similar. They should know it's not a place where walk-ins or last minute appointments are likely. And that's a drawback for some people, myself included. 2. I guess I must have been unlucky to get all 4 of my appointments past the 15 minute period. Fairly certain 2 of those were in the 30 min range. I appreciate the courtesy text, but at the end of the day, I'm not sure what most people would do when they make an appointment a few weeks in advance (see point 1), and get a notice a few hours before their appointment that they have to delay things 30 mins. Again, it's the only option a business can offer, and I'm glad you do that, BUT a delay is still a delay. You are a high end salon, it's not SuperCuts or GreatClips. So my EXPECTATION as a customer for that higher standard is that I'll be seen pretty close to my appointment time. My EXPECTATION should not be to be to tolerate 15 minutes or more after my time, on a regular basis no less, regardless of what fine print says. You could have given me a "it's something we're always working on improving for you guys" kind of line, but you threw fine print out as a response? That's cool. 3. This may be an oversight on my part, but I don't recall seeing the 10 minute add on sessions in the past. Maybe it's a newer development? If so, great. But in my situation, you could have easily told me from the first time, "Hey Kaung, I'd love to man, but seeing how we're already behind, can you book an extra time session for this next time?" Somehow it makes me think those sessions weren't available last year. Sorry for being c-c-c-combo breaker, but I think these are valid enough points to illustrate to paint a fair idea of what to expect for customers. If they read all these things and come, then you won't have to worry about them whining like me. read more

I've never written a Yelp review before, but the service and quality at The Commodore are in such a league of their own that it motivated me to give some feedback on a public forum. I'll separate my comments in categories: 1. Quality - Rob is simply the best barber I've ever had - bar none! It's not even close. Why? First of all, he listens to what you want, paraphrases back what he heard so everyone is on the same page, gives suggestions/expert advice if necessary and then uses his years of experience to make it happen. I typically get a 0.5 inch fade on the sides with scissors on top. His attention to detail is unbelievable. My hair grows in funky directions with several cowlicks throughout. Yet, Rob works with these to ensure that the final look is as symmetrical as possible. He will literally be working on the cut, pause, take a few steps back and then look at the hair from different angles to make sure everything is aligned. It's unreal! His desire for excellence is unmatched! When I asked Rob, "Why do you spend so much time making sure everything is perfect when a lot of what you're seeing at the micro level the average person would never notice?" His response was a true reflection of his character: "I view this as my craft. Even though most people won't notice the subtle nuances of an excellent cut, I will. I want to be the best I can possibly be for my clients." 2. Service - In addition to ensuring a great quality fade (highlighted above), Rob makes the whole experience pleasant. "What's up Mark? How have you been? It's great to see you. Would you like a beer, water, soda while you're waiting?" This is typically how I'm greeted upon entering The Commodore. Then, after no more than a few minutes, I'm in the chair getting the cut, engaging with Rob in conversation throughout. Finally, when the hard part is done, Rob puts a warm towel on my face and massages the shoulders - a great way to finish the experience. Paying is also easy - cash or credit accepted (a lot of barbers in town only accept cash which is always inconvenient). Lastly, he also has great hair products. I get my hair gel and shaving kit from Rob. 3. Ambiance - The new place in Chamblee is beautiful. It takes you back several decades to the glory days of quality barber shops. Well actually, I'd probably better describe it as both rustic and modern. Hand-crafted wood counters, clean and patterned tiled floors, natural light, and retro barber chairs, all make for an overall great ambiance. You'll love it! Last thoughts - Upon moving to Atlanta two years ago, I was eager to find a best-in-class barber that truly values excellence and quality. After trying at least 5 different places and getting average cuts, I finally found Rob. He's simply the best barber in town. In fact, I think he'd rival the best barbers in most cities. Try him out! First time at this parlor which was referred by a buddie of mine from the gym. Had an amazing experience with Brandon M. who attended to my request for a beard trim. Did an exceptional job. They say you get what you pay for, however, I'd like to think that this establishment surpasses this statement. Well done man! Had ended up stuck at sportsclips and not happy about it...then I saw this place while getting some fried chicken a few doors down. By far the best haircut I've had in a few years. My barber, Brandon, took the time to listen to what I had to say, seemed like he was actually paying attention to how my hair lays and took the time to make it look fantastic. If you care about the atmosphere, can't imagine you'd be disappointed. If you just want the best haircut, then you have to come here. Price is comparable to similar barbershops in other cities at $40 for the standard cut - considering you pay about $25 before tip for SportsClips and the like, The Commodore is a bargain. I called Gino's to my an appointment with Adrian and Rob... reception lady told me they no longer work here... I was piss off, I had to find where Adrian was working at he was my #1 BARBER..Luckily I had his number.. I known Adrian for over a year now. He is an great hair artist .unbelievable!!! He can cut anybody hair and make it perfect...I don't like hopping chairs so I stick with Adrian as my barber I never personally had ROB cut my hair but I have my 2 boys go to him all the time...and what he does to my kids hair are amazing..I know it's hard to cut kids hair because they move so much but if you can cut a child hair like an adult haircut you are great af!!! I've been on the hunt for a really good barbers place for almost a year now. And by good I mean a couple of things: - Attention to what kind if haircut would look good on you. Almost an advisor of some sort. Every head and hair type is different, thus I think it's vital that you have someone knowledgeable about hair to help guide you through it. - Stylish but not making false recommendation: Similar to my previous point. I wanted someone who really cares about hair but is also sensible to the trends. They weren't just going to give me the brad pitt haircut because it was cool, but I also knew they weren't going to give me my grandfather's haircut. - Care for each client: A lot of places I went to had really high reviews on Yelp, but I felt like I was just another unit in a long line at the assembly line. Others were more worried about just getting through the haircuts in order to get on the next person. Rob and Adrian are not like that at all. There really do care for each client. It's not a big hair cutting farm where you walk in and theres 20 stalls and it's a gamble on who you get it. It is personalized attention, something so rare for barbers I feel like. If you give any sense of how your haircut looks and are tired of second guessing or having anxiety about who is cutting your haircut today, CPT is the place for you. I don't have give out many 5 stars but I would give this place more stars if I could. I use to be guy who hated getting haircuts and would put them off for months, now I want to get a haircut every 2-3 weeks. I just recently moved to Atlanta from San Francisco. On the top of my list of things to do when I landed was to find a barber. My go to for this was Instagram. I was worried after searching Instagram that "my" kind of barber didn't exist. A full service, appointment only, European style, shop of master barbers who can execute a perfect skin fade while giving you the perfect cut for any style. Where customer service is just as important as providing excellent haircuts. For instance I've never not been offered a beverage when I arrive. Well as fate would have it I found that shop at the Commodore. I'd trust these guys to do a Brad Pitt fury cut or a CEOs comb over. Walk into a storage place? Okay..interesting. There seems to be many salons inside this storage space. One of those unassuming AC storage places is actually an indoor salon mini-mall exclusive for hair stylists. You see Rob or Adrian and I was with Rob. Before going in I had a recommendation for Rob. May see Adrian too because I'm satisfied with the service and the vibe. Rob asks if I would like a beverage...choices are pretty good. Different local brews, flavored red bulls, bottled water, etc. Conversation was good too. I always find it kind of strange to start a conversation with a stranger, but Rob was cool about it and it kept away the awkward moments. Hair cut keeps giving and giving. Rob took the time to make sure my cut would last. I purchased the shave and cut combo and am satisfied three weeks later. Definitely an expensive cut but I'm happy with it. I'll be back. When I found out he was opening his own place with Rob, I followed. Not only do they provide top notch service and fantastic attention to detail with your hair and grooming, they are fun to hang out with during the experience. I first posted about Rob over a year ago when he was still working for another unnamed barber shop in Sandy Springs. I'd been going to him exclusively for a while and he never failed to impress me with his skill, technique, and great care he put in to seeing that I along with every other client get the best possible service. Now that Rob has opened his own shop along with Adrian, who also worked at the former unnamed shop I have to weigh in and continue to give Rob the props he so richly deserves. I've been reading some of the other reviews and have to agree fully with Yelper Andrew H. in fact there is nothing else to add as he so accurately stated. It would be difficult to overstate the quality of the experience you receive at The Commodore. While I have not yet had a haircut from Adrian I have no doubt of his talent and skills. I see how much care he puts in to his clients. I would add this and say if there comes a time when I leave Atlanta, I would seriously consider returning once a month or so just to have Rob do my hair. It would be totally worth it! It seems to be getting harder to find expert service and craftsmanship these days but Rob and Adrian deliver on all counts. read more

Up until about a year and a half ago, I'd always kind of been the type of guy that would get a haircut as any place that was inexpensive and kind of just got the job done. I didn't care as much about my hairstyle and didn't really put much thought into what kind of place I went to. That all changed when my Office headquarters moved to Sandy Springs and I decided to check out some local barbershops. I walked in and I met a guy named Rob. I told him that I wanted to try something new and that I was open to any suggestions. Rob immediately came up with an idea and he went to work. I walked out with the best haircut that I've ever received and got plenty of compliments to help suport that notion. I decided that I'd no longer go to the cheaper/lower quality hair salon chains and that I'd come back to Rob from now on. Towards the end of last year, Rob reached out to me and said that he'd be opening up his own shop. I knew that I wanted to continue going to him and have had the opportunity to get a haircut there.
