Suzanne Gaffney Beason Former Marvel Comics Editor and Director of Editorial Scheduling for DC Comics For immediate release... On Saturday, August 12th from 7 to 9 pm a reception will be held for the opening of a new art exhibition at the Art Association of Oswego. The exhibition, by Suzanne Gaffney Beason, is titled My Life in Comics / My Life in Art. Part of the show is a display of Ms. Beason's personal collection of original drawings by well-known comic artists from her days at Marvel Comics, where she was assistant editor to high-profile comics such as Spider-Man and X-Men. Also on exhibit will be original prints and drawings from her current work as a graduate student in SUNY Oswego's Master of Arts program in Studio Arts. This includes both figurative work and highly abstract explorations of color, shape and texture. According to the Art Association's exhibition coordinator Bill DeMott, "As an undergraduate at SUNY Oswego in the 80's, Suzanne got a fantastic education, one that took her to New York City to work for the likes of Robert Blackburns' Printmaking Workshop NYC, Marvel Comics, Reader's Digest, Pearson Education and eventually DC Comics. But when DC moved to California, she made the brave decision to return to Oswego to pursue her first love, fine arts. Her current work is stunning and in her new art one can see all the knowledge gained from years of working with figures and bold abstractions. We welcome Suzanne and her husband Kirk to this community. Their energy and enthusiasm for art--and for music--are truly refreshing." The reception for this exhibition is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. The exhibition will run until Sunday, August 27th. Regular gallery hours are from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturdays and from 1 pm to 4 pm on Sundays or by appointment. Fall advertisement. They clame to buy comic books and Mangas but yet refuse to buy them in perfect condition stating they only buy new even though they got used. I would not recommend doing business with them do to the fact they do not buy comic books and Mangas. read more

Lots of variety of comics, cards and toys. Some great finds. Some of the stuff they have should be in a museum. Knowledge staff.

Staff is very nice their landlord borderline harasses anyone who parks in the parking lot. We parked there for not even 5 minutes trying to figure out something and he comes banging on our window telling us to move or he'll tow us. Tried explaining the situation and he did not care and told us to move or he'll call the cops. read more

This is one of the nicest comic shops I've ever visited. Smallish but not cramped, clean, organized and well-stocked. Especially nice to see significant space dedicated to comics for children. The man behind the register was friendly and polite. If you live near this shop and haven't stopped in, you should. I was passing through Oswego and thought, "this is a college town; there must be a comic shop here." It was on the map and along my route, so I visited. What a pleasant surprise! I've often told people that my favorite comic shop in the world is Gosh Comics in London, England. For a store that's less than half the size and with a much lower profile, The Oswego Comic Shop makes me feel the same kind of goodwill. How nice is this shop? A great store and local institution that has been in Oswego for decades. Last year, they sponsored my son's AAA Little League team. I have a current subscription to the Immortal Hulk series, and I never miss an issue, though sometimes they're a little more beat up than I'd like. There's something for everyone here: back issues (remember those?), the latest comics and graphic novels, vintage and new toys, and the classic dollar bins that kids used to love to dig through to find an obscure storyline or even a hidden gem. Whether you're a fan of the movies, or a collector like me, there's something for everybody here! read more

I was not into comics until I first went into this shop. I moved into town to attend SUNY Oswego, where I met myself a "comic book nerd". This man is now my husband, so I'm allowed to say that. it was during our time dating that I was first brought to the Comic Shop, a place my husband has gone to since he was a little boy. The shop is very inviting with many different titles, publishing companies, genres, games, cards, toys, action figures and their wonderful staff! It has been 9 years since I first visited the Comic Shop and now visiting is somewhat of a weekly ritual! I go in regularly to look through the titles to see if anything catches my eye, but more so to visit with Martin and Arlene who work there. Both are knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely care about the people who visit the store (I've seen it with my own two eyes!) One thing I often see is returning customers, or "regulars" (myself included), who come in to get their comic books and often stay to chat. The Comic Shop regularly holds events - Magic, late night sales with pizza and other goodies, free comic book day, Anniversary celebrations and sales, even trick or treat goodies! There are not many places I know of who care so much about their customers and the small city in which it resides. There's a reason this shop has been around 20+ years and I hope it stays around a lot longer!! read more

How do I even begin to write a review for the Oswego Comic Shop? I've been going there for over 20 years to buy comics and I regard the owner and staff as close friends. I've been to other comic book stores over the years, but the staff and the friendly environment have kept me coming back year after year. The selection of the store and the knowledge of the staff are deep. They are able to identify and converse on a variety of topics like new movies, tv shows, comics as well as the history of comics in general. The staff is also great with kids and families. If you are in Oswego, it's a place you have to visit. My week is incomplete without a visit. Technically, there are other comic shops like the one in Oswego, but really, there are no comic shops like the Oswego Comic Shop. read more

The staff have been helpful and courteous every time I've been in the shop -- which is about 300 times, between 1998 and the present. They've got a deep bench of Big Two graphic novels, a bevy of inexpensive action figures and collectibles, and discount racks for people like me who wait FOREVER to get caught up on stuff and then buy something like 10 trades all at once. Working in the comics industry, I've been to dozens of stores across the U.S. and Canada, and this is one of a very few that I will consistently go out of my way to visit when I'm in the general area. read more

I have been going to this comic shop off and on for 10 years and have always had a great experience. They staff is super friendly and always has an answer to any question I have. Worst comic shop I've ever been to. The comics are keept in these racks that bend the comics. The employees will touch your books with greasey hands and will put pizza stains on your books. The staff are very rude and rip you off. Expect no discounts or extentions on sales. Free Comic Book Day expect to only get 1 book read more

I've been to many comic shops here in New York and in other states but this is my favorite. The staff are all extremely kind and engaging. To say otherwise tells me one of two things you're either a liar or you're probably not a very nice person yourself, maybe both. The standard prices are typically cheaper than I've found elsewhere. Decently large inventory and if you can't find something you want just order it. One of the few times they were unable to order something for me they've tracked down the item at conventions or elsewhere. They've even set aside various items they came by and thought I'd be interested in because they've taken the time to know me as a person. And if I don't want the item? No big deal. It's because of all these reasons and many more that I've been a customer here for as long as I can remember. read more
