I had such a great experience thanks to Brance at The Colleges at La Rue Apartments. I was in a tough spot trying to deliver a package.. parking was blocked off and I had no options. Brance stepped right in, was assertive, knew exactly what to do, guided me through the whole process, and even helped me take the package up. This is my second year living at The Colleges. It has the perks of being on campus, tons of laundry rooms, tons of academic centers, and a pretty decent price for being on campus. Nikki is super sweet and helpful. The other staff members be condescending and mean at times. But overall, a pretty good bunch of staff compared to other apartment complexes. Probably the best place to live in Davis for students (according to the Aggie anyways!) I lived in the 4 bedroom 2 bath layout and it's extremely spacious. It's a bit on the expensive side but it's definitely worth it - fast dorm internet is included, and you also get discounted utility prices so running the AC (so necessary in the davis heat) doesn't cost you an arm and a leg! I lived in the large room upstairs and it was way large enough to share.. i had my full size bed, a dresser, a desk, and still had room for a full size foam mattress size thing on the floor for drunk people to sleep on. the bathroom upstairs was one of my favorite things.. it was ridiculously large (i'm not complaining) with TWO sinks (one for each of us!) and SO MUCH COUNTER SPACE! i don't think i can rave about a place enough where you can wake up at 7:30, roll outta bed, leave at 7:40 and walk to you 8am class! close to the rec pool slash meat market for the summer days..and the study lounges are GREAT for all day group study seshes on sundays! (gota make sure someone stays to hold down the fort while others grab food..) one gripe though - there's only about 8 (?) visitors parking spots.. which is kind of annoying when you legimitely have guests but people are using that as "free" campus parking. i don't think taps is TOO strict w/ this parking lot either though. i would definitely recommend this place!!!!!!! read more

It's a real bummer that I'm leaving this beautiful apartment complex because lord knows I've slept around leasing at the Rambles and even stayed in a trap house for a couple quarters -- I've finally found a place that's good enough to call my home, my crib, my place of worship. The Colleges at La Rue was everything I wanted plus they did events that gave out free food and soft serve ice cream. I'll never forget the type of amenities and hospitality they provided me but the real bullet point I want to address is one particular staff member: Rebecca has and always will be an A+ star player for the Colleges team. She's under-appreciated because on paper she does her job but in reality she represents the word "wonderful" every single day. I'm really happy to write about how much of an impact she's made on my stay and 100% believe she is responsible for my feeling of comfort and convenience here. She is the reason why I'm writing this 5 star yelp review. If you happen to see her at the front desk tell her I said hi, but in general be nice to her because you can expect nothing less than kindness back. Colleges is definitely one of the best apartment to live at Davis. I was a transfer student when I came to Davis and I was looking for a convenient place to say -- I was lucky enough when my housemate got off the waitlist and we were able to stay here for a whole school year. The lease typically starts from Sept1st(current year) until August 31st(next year). One thing I am not really satisfied are -- there are a lot of bugs like cockroaches and spiders. I told the management about it and few days later they sent someone to spray pesticide. The management respond pretty quickly and I am really happy with that. Also, if you have any problems such as air-conditioning not working, clog toilet, just send your request -- they typically reply within a day. I would say the management is very responsive to these cases. The rent can be a little pricey and if you are looking for a cheaper place, this might not be your option. But if you are looking to live super close to school, Colleges is a great place. I remembered waking up 20 minutes before class startarted and I was able to bike to campus in 4 minutes and not being late. So, it all depends on you whether you want to live closer to campus(biking or walking distance) or anywhere further. I would highly recommend living at Colleges! read more

Not sure where to begin with how great Colleges at La Rue is, but the bottom line is this is THE BEST apartments in Davis for any student. I've lived in West Village previously, which many people seem to think is the highest in Davis, but really it doesn't even compare in terms of friendly service, location, space, and value. The staff here goes WAY beyond just doing their job. Everyone I've interacted with here from the director, front desk, maintenance, all were extremely friendly and helpful, something that unfortunately is very hard to find in a lot of apartments. We recently had a leasing agreement issue between my housemates, something that didn't involve the leasing staff, yet they still took action to help us come to solution, and I really appreciate them for making our housing experience worry-free. For the price I am paying here, I would have had about half the space at West Village and I still would have had to pay extra for parking and bike a much farther distance everyday. Here, whenever there is an issue (which is almost never), I know its addressed very quickly. Even when there isn't an issue, maintenance always make the place better, even shampooing our carpets without request. Everyone who comes to our apartment is jealous of our place, you really can't find places like this at this value in Davis. It's no surprise people try so hard to get an allocation at the Colleges, so if you have the chance to live here, do not hesitate to take it! I highly recommend the 4x4 townhouse floor-plan, the high ceilings and large kitchen with island are great! read more

I would recommend the Colleges at La Rue to any student! Not only is the location absolutely perfect, the apartments themselves are spacious and clean. The icing on the cake is the staff here. Our unit's AC unit has had some problems and maintenance and management have been AMAZINGLY responsive and have work hard to accommodate the temporary issues to keep us comfortable in the Davis heat. I've lived in apartments before where they've taken days to address essential needs, but the Colleges at La Rue is nothing like that. They treat student renters with more respect than I've received anywhere else. Nidia, the manager, and Brance from maintenance in particular are great--kind, communicative and responsive. If you get the chance to live here, take it!!!!! read more

I also have great living experience here. Sooo close to campus. Nice layout (we had the 2bed/2bath layout.) The rooms are HUGE! Exercise room, laundry room, and plenty of gated study rooms with air conditioning! (Oh Joy for the summer time!) And they are very fair with deposit and cleaning fee. I've been living here for the past 3 years. It's a great place to live since it's right across from campus, but since it's all students, it can get loud and messy. I often see a lot of litter around the complex. Maintenance is pretty good. Sometimes they take a few days to repair stuff, but they're good with small repairs. They still haven't repaired my front door's weatherstrip though. It's nice that utilities is a lot cheaper here than in other complexes. Also, the use of school internet is pretty worth it. A lot of people say the rent here is expensive, but I still think it's great for the area and size of the rooms. A few cons are that it's close to the cow smell and the amtrak is pretty loud at night. read more

This is a fantastic apartment complex to live in. In short: It is literally across the street from campus, so I can enjoy a nice walk to and from each day. The staff is professional and timely. I've never had a maintenance repair issue, large or small, go unattended to for more than a day. Brance is especially awesome and helpful, and will go out of his way to help you with things past the duties of the staff, such as moving large couches down three flights of stairs. I have found Rebecca especially courteous and helpful from when we were first inquiring about the Colleges in December of last school year, on through the application and lottery, then the moving in (yay! we got in!)phases. Her consistent friendly and helpful nature has really put us at ease and has made us pursue the opportunity to have our kid live here. On top of that, on move in day when Brance came into the picture and was extremely pleasant, friendly, and helpful, it just blew us away. Both Rebecca and Brance made move in day go extremely smoothly with minimum stress. They are both on the top of our gratitude list and we feel blessed that we have such caring and helpful people here. I wanted a clean, modern, no-frills apartment complex close to campus and that's exactly what I got. Yeah, it's a little pricey compared to other places in Davis, but it's not unreasonable for the location and for the overall quality and size of the units. Internet is fast and free, there are plenty of laundry machines for the amount of people living there, and there are plenty of study rooms scattered throughout the complex. The only cons are a) not having a pool (the Rec Pool is next door but it only opens a few months a year), b) a mild roach problem on ground floor units that isn't really the management's fault, and c) occasional delays in maintenance. Those sound like a lot of cons but really they're not much compared to the overall quality of the living experience. read more

I lived in a 2 bed 2 bath at The Colleges for 4 years. Both the bedroom and the bathrooms were extremely spacious. Throughout my stay I was never disappointed. The office staff was always friendly and prompt with any maintenance issues and always took great care to ensure that everyone was happy. The only thing I would warn about are the college parties and the smell from the Animal Facility where the cows are housed. Being so close to campus, you completely get a strong whiff when the wind picks up. Meanwhile, the parties were expected seeing as how we lived in an exclusive undergraduate community. But everything else was fantastic. Laundry machines were plentiful. They had several study rooms on site and they had a nice fitness center that normally went unused since the complex was right across the street from the ARC. When it came time to move out we eventually learned that we had received our full deposit back plus interest. I would highly recommend The Colleges to anyone looking for housing. Just know, that it's extremely competitive to get so it's best to apply early. read more

Oh, Angelica. I would have no problem living here and paying the high prices if the office staff was NOT SO RUDE. Tandem usually does much better with this but the "manager" (I use this term loosely because she is older but has no experience with people or the laws of property management) has no idea what she is doing or saying. They need to bring Marshall and Sarah back. They were the best team and always got things done in a timely manner. Marshall was very realistic and understood us, Sarah was so organized and had multiple degrees and Property Management certifications. Can't believe anyone would leave such a nice place in such incapable hands. read more
