The good news about Red Rocks Community College is that it is pretty inexpensive. The problem is…read morethat they are not too sensitive to certain diversity issues. For instance, as a neurodivergent individual, I complained about too much noise in the library (which is mostly empty, with the exception of a couple of very loud librarians and maybe one person playing video games or chatting on their cellphone). A bunch of administrators started yelling at me (almost threatening to expel me) when I complained that the library was too loud. When I tried to make an appointment with the head librarian, he didn't show up for the meeting on time and did not answer my emails. Although the school talks a big game about diversity, there are no elevators for people with disabilities. I took a class in which the male instructor kept using the word "Karen" to refer to older ladies. I thought that seemed a little sexist. Overall, it did not feel very professional. I was not too comfortable at this school. They need to think more carefully about how to accommodate neurodiverse people and individuals with disabilities. It also feels like there are too many administrators and not enough decently paid instructors who have the time to create decent lesson plans.

I've never been a student or staffer at RRCC, but I'm an art lover and I've been visiting the…read morecampus for many years to take in the Art Department's periodic exhibitions. These were originally presented on the basement walls surrounding the Department's classrooms and offices, but more recently a formal art gallery has been created in the spaces surrounding the Community Room. This is immediately to your right as you go in the main entrance to the College. The new gallery is quite nice. There's a long, rectangular space and also a rotunda-like area immediately outside the Community Room. Be sure you go through the double doors at the rear of the front gallery to get into the second space. The gallery is open during all campus hours. Occasionally the rear doors are locked, but if you call Campus Security, they will be happy to let you in. The gallery presents student work, but also shows featuring the Lakewood community interspersed with material of regional and sometimes greater significance. It's a bit of a drive for me, but the campus is pretty and a visit to the gallery makes for a relaxing afternoon.

Barb from Rocky Mountain Training came in and gave my team an excellent, customized training on InDesign. She covered the basics as well as the specific features and functionality we need needed to support our new product. She did an excellent job of communicating with all users of different levels of experience in our group. The communication was excellent, the price was incredibly reasonable and overall I couldn't be more pleased with this investment. Second, I appreciated that the course was offered online, saving time and money. When it came time for the course, Barb was on time, kind, and extremely knowledgeable on my subject. The training was structured well, and the e-book was great. After completing training, I was no longer cursing FM all day everyday, but instead, I am utilizing the skills Barb taught, and still use the textbook for guidance daily. I ran into a subject that I couldn't find an answer in the book, and emailed Barb my question. She replied the next day with the perfect solution, explained clearly and concisely!! I would highly recommend RMT to anyone looking for Adobe training, and will look to RMT if I need future training.

It's very important that people understand your children will not get "swim lessons" like you think…read morethey will. This was not clear to us when we signed our kids up. By the end of 6 months, neither of them could use a kick board much less know any actual swim strokes. That said, they learned valuable water skills. Water safety, PFD usage, floating and other water-related lessons were given by the instructors. However, it was clear the weekly lesson plan was pretty loosey-goosey. When we felt our kids were getting repetitive lessons and weren't advancing, we asked how they tracked advancement and it was pretty they didn't beyond "I remember what they did last week". The format is about 45 minutes of class and 10 minutes of just fun time. The kids loved it. Each lesson had 1, sometimes 2 teachers, for 3-4 kids. The facility is very cool. The pool is very cool and there's plenty of room for parents to watch. They have lots of PFDs, floats, toys, and other water things. In terms of cost , it's very expensive compared to swim lessons at the rec center. And even further, it's run like a contracted gym membership, meaning when we told them we were taking the kids out of lessons, they insisted we owed 1 additional month fees because didn't give them a month's notice. So, we basically paid $400 to get out of a "contract" we never knew we signed. In the end, we felt the kids learned exceptional water safety lessons that they would not have learned in a rec-center style class. But we also felt they didn't actually learn how to swim. I think 2 months of weekly lessons here supplemented by swim lessons at a rec center would be best for giving your kids swimming and water safety skills.

We spend lots of time at big lakes and the Pacific shores, and I wanted her to be more comfortable around moving currents and waves. These lessons focus on that: Rivers, lakes, oceans, currents and under currents. She learned how to navigate stressful situations with confidence and it was pivital in her healthy relationship with water. She's a fish at the lake now, and we all feel safer knowing she's got foundational skills that can help save her life when the water gets rough.
