I was disappointed with my return to the Coffee Cup today. Not only did the price of menu items go up, but the quality has come down. I ordered the veal and was looking forward to it -- the veal was so thin that it lasted like a piece of bacon in bread crumbs. It was certainly not to my expectations nor did it taste of anything. The person I was with ordered the Seabass and it was not served with anything else. The lasagne was good -- slightly cold in the middle. Flavors were still good, but maybe they were having an off day. Restaurant does have a nice ambiance and a great position on the high street. read more

Breakfast all day and reasonable prices would make this my go to if I lived in the area. I've gone here twice so far in my 10 day stay in Hampstead and I recommend this place definitely if you're here for business or pleasure. Service is fast, the food is consistent and it's been a great place to grab breakfast even at 10-11am. Their full English looked good but I opted for the Eggs Royale and it really did not disappoint. If you're looking for English staples + a bit more, then stop here! read more

I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately I would not recommend. I got apple pie and a tea. The tea was fine, nothing special. The pie was not good at all. My friends got pie as well and had the same reaction. Slices were tiny, had a sour taste, stale crust, and were cold. Taste was absolutely awful. read more

What a thrill to discover that this treasure is still open! And pleased to see that the recent reviews are so good. For reasons that will become apparent - my review probably won't be of direct benefit to most. But for those who are curious - this place was also wonderful in the late 1960s! It was cosy, homely - and welcoming. The staff didn't frown on boys with long hair! (Which many a cafe and restaurant did in that era!) My recollection is that it was one of the first cafes in London to serve toasted sandwiches - an astounding menu item in 1969! There was no finer joy than going to the Coffee Cup on a cold winter Sunday after a long walk on the Heath. Reasonable prices and friendly welcoming staff - kind to an impoverished young hippie couple in love... Alas I live 6,000 miles away now. But I sense that the Coffee Cup magic lives on. The Coffee Cup in Hampstead has a sentimental place for me because it's the first place I had breakfast when I moved to the UK. It's a very old, but locally popular, coffee spot in north London. The breakfasts are simple and cheap. The coffee is tasty. The service is prompt. There are a few outdoor seats which are the best people-watching real estate in Hampstead. Inside is very small and cozy, with some old benches and tables. It's a super place to meet people, and a wonderful place for anyone who wants a cozy café that's unlike most other modern options available. read more

The Coffee Cup on Hampstead High Street is an unassuming looking place from the outside. Inside it's got a delightful feel, with lots of wood panelling giving it a cosy atmosphere. I was with a friend looking for a lunch venue, but wanted something light, as I was going out to dinner later in the day. Originally I was going to go with the Omelette and salad. I finally chose the Eggs Benedict, which at £6.50 was a really good deal. The eggs where poached well, with the yoke drizzling our nicely over the ham when pierced. The ham was very tasty and had a smoked flavour, which only added to my enjoyment. The Hollandaise sauce was plentiful and had a nice thick texture to it. I was also pleased that the English muffin was not too heavy. The choice of food today fitted my requirements well. A diner on the next table ordered an omelette and salad whilst we were there. It was huge, and would have been too much for me. In fact all the food that I saw coming out of the kitchen looked good. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone looking for an unfussy place to catch a bite in the area. The other diners around us appeared to be locals, known to the waiting staff. I would take that as an endorsement of how good this little coffee shop come bistro café is. read more

The Coffee Cup on Hampstead Heath is an unusual establishment. It looks run down next to all the new & trendy places around it. It has one of the few covered outdoor areas in Hampstead and the surrounding areas. Inside there is lots of wood paneling creating a feel that you have been transported back in time. It is a casual, unfussy, kinda place and the food reflects this. The food is basic but still good quality. The portions are big and good for the price. Downside: It its very busy on the weekend and hard to get a table. I've been unsuccessful on many occasions. read more

For a drinks review... Reasonably priced little coffee house in the slowly expanding chain-ridden-ecumne of Hampstead Village.... I suppose most of the delight is finding an independent stalwart in the area. Though, the staff were incredibly polite (always a bonus) and they had a solid selection of the usual caffeine tipples with the added bonus of a freshly blended juice cocktail list, and the likes of fresh mint tea. The interior is super cosy, perfect for that lazy winter afternoon hot cup of *insert what you like here*, with some outdoor tables on the crumbling but charming entrance mosaic. read more

This place is phenomenal! You will likely walk right past it, and ignore it as one of the many cafes along London streets. I did this, but managed to ask the two guys at the outside table how's the food...they were locals and said "there was none better." Do yourself a favor and check it out. I went there twice for Sunday brunch with a group and was not too impressed. Service was pretty rude on both times. We had to re-inquire several times for orders, the bill was presented to us without asking and we were hushed out as soon as we finished our plates. Granted, it is quite busy on the weekend but the tone and manners were plainly rude. The eggs benedictine were overdone and gummy, really nothing to write home about. Judging by the crowds some seem to admire this "quaint charm" on overly-expensive Hampstead Heath Highroad. Verdict: location, location, location! Can not recommend this venue for any other virtue. read more

I absolutely LOVE this little place! My boyfriend's grandparents used to go there very often in the 1950s as they lived just upstairs from it. Grandpa was amazed when we showed him on Google Street view that it still exists! Of course it changed owners, I don't know how many times (the last change is fairly recent), but they had the intelligence of keeping it just the way they found it (doing otherwise would have been a gruesome crime). The staff is friendly, the coffee is lovely and so is the food, but my favourite is by far their tiramisu. You just have to try it! read more

came here on a sunny saturday. absolutely everywhere was rammed in hampstead village and we were having a really difficult time deciding where to eat. people were sitting outside of this place looking really pretty happy with their food, so we decided to try it out. plus hampstead village is kinda pricey, eh, and this place seemed like one of the most reasonable places that we could go haha. we're on a budget, we have a massive north american adventure coming up (SO STOKED!!!!!!) we were pretty happy inside when we realised that they serve breakfast all day, at 3pm we decided that this was just what we needed. i ordered poached egg on toast (£5.10 though, OUCH! the mark up on that is just INSANE!!) and a side of spinach (£3.50, again - OUCH!!!!), my boyfriend ordered the breakfast special...which just appeared to be a normal full breakfast? (at £7.10 it offered better value than mine, but still fairly pricey). despite the costs being high (i figure everywhere is in hampstead village so it's probably normal, but i dunno?) the food was good - my eggs were poached to perfection and my side of spinach was delicious so all good. sitting outside would have been nice and the perfect people watching spot, but it was still pretty chilly so we sat inside right at the back beside the kitchen. if i come back i would ask not to sit here as it was a busy thoroughfare and we could hear all the servers chat as well as the kitchen chat and it wasn't very conducive to a nice lunch! i also get the feeling that their italian fare (and specifically their pastas) are their specialities, so if i had tried this out, then i'm thinking it might have been a slightly better experience for us! maybe next time... it seems popular though - even at 3pm it was pretty busy - good sign, if it's not all tourists! read more

Very friendly and authentic, if a little cramped and run down, cafe on Hampstead High Street. Delicious eggs benedict, at a reasonable 5.90GBP, and nice teapots, which I like. Well worth a try before a brisk walk on the heath and a pint in the Hollybush. read more

Went here tonight with a friend and neither of us could believe how awful it was in every way. Barely had I sat down than the waiter pounced on me. I told him I was waiting for a friend and he grumpily left. Barely had SHE sat down, than he pounced on her too, and she said "Can I have a minute please?" He finally returned and flung the pre-buttered toast at us and a pot of tea, that although costing more than a cup of tea, contained only enough tea for one cup. My coffee though good, was lukewarm. We then went inside and were told we would have to settle our bill for the outside table, before we could order something else inside. This time we were served by the manager and a waitress who were off-hand, verging on rude. I know an establishment can't really be responsible for its clientele, but everyone there was quite odd and/or smelly and made me and my friend feel really uncomfortable. It's a really odd, unsavoury place and I wouldn't go there again if you paid me. I'm giving it 1 star, because I'm not allowed to give it less. Truly dire. read more
