The food was fantastic, a lot of Indian restaurants can make very bland, predictable food. Not the Spice Guru however. The different flavours and spices in each dish were very noticeable and you can tell the chefs there put their own twist on dishes giving each dish originality. Not too pricey and a great evening, the only slight problem was that there was not much wine left, but it was New Year's Day when I dined there. All in all a good restaurant with good food and I shall be visiting again.

The starter of a lamb and vegetable broth was light, yet flavoursome, and an excellent appetiser. So it was disappointing that my curry main course was just so bland. I was really hoping for something very different to the usual curries, but I could easily have imagined getting something similar from an Indian takeaway. My wife's noodle dish was reminiscent of chicken chow mein you'd get from the Chinese takeaway. The place sat empty for just over a year, leaving Lower Kingswood without a village pub. Then early this year, the Royal Gurkha rises from the ashes with a great blend of Nepalese and Indian cuisine at very reasonable prices. On top of that, they also do a mixture of traditional "pub lunch" food (jackets and sandwiches) in the pub (they've reverted the interior to 50/50 pub and restaurant). Special offers on Wednesday and Sunday of 4 dishes for £10 have seen some turned away recently it's gone down that well and they received a 4star review from the local papers food critic last month. Always friendly and courteous on greeting and serving guests, Sunil, Suraj and the rest of the staff are running this family business in the heart of a small village in exactly the right way.
