All three stars belong to the view and the view only, directly looking out over the lake and cliffs. 1) so old and outdated. Looks like they tried updating here and there, but not helping much. We wouldn't bathe in the tub just shower. I didn't want to let my baby crawl on the floor. 2) two balcony doors overlooking lake... only one opens. 3) from staff was so inadequate. Neither gave us any info at checkin. Only one had a decent disposition. Both chatted loudly late into the night and early into the morning... our room was off the main lobby and we could hear everything. 4) used condom outside in the grass 5) restaurant is more of a pub, food was good enough. No room service but you can buy a whole wine bottle 6) air conditioning is so loud, we didn't use or we wouldn't be able to sleep 7) in room coffee was terrible. Tea offerings include black Lipton tea 8) bed was soft enough but the box springs were completely uncovered 9) tv was so small 10) furniture was an old mix match of orange oak yuck 11) directions from main road are not great and internet is intermittent. One of my favorite places at Possum Kingdom Lake. Has been for 40 plus years. The restaurant needs major change. Servers are nice. Service is slow. Food quality is horrible. Lettuce is limp. French fries cooked in dirty cooking oil. Egg salad was not edible - disgusting. The hamburger meat was edible only if cooked medium well. The restaurant could be really good if staffed correctly, the menu was reduced to really good options. Bar was not tended. No real draft beer choices. I would love to be hired for a consulting study for the entire experience. No one on the ownership side is paying attention. read more

The service was horrible last night. Saw only two servers one of which was the bartender. They had 40 people total and were buried! Food was late getting out and cold, orders were late in getting taken and people were not being attended to. The two bartenders were beyond "snowed"'and this place has t even hit peak yet. They need seasoned bartenders and servers. In the meantime order beer and simple food to ensure the order remains uncomplicated. The old bartender "cristy" had left but she certainly knew how to run the place. Beautiful view of the cliffs overlooking the lake. My gosh I am normally looking up and looking down from the hotel gives you a different take on just how beautiful this lake can be. We stayed at hotel for my nephew wedding and our room was spacious. A little dated but it was clean and staff was friendly and close to the reception hall. Ok. Stayed here last weekend. The room view was amazing. Needed a bit of updating and a bit worn. Liked that they checked our temp at check in. The big reason I didn't give a 4 star review 1. Front staff was a bit gruff at first but warmed up and accommodated our request (we were traveling with another) not to put us in side by side rooms. And eventually became more friendly. 2. Front desk staff didn't give us the lay of the land. Ie explaining resort,pool etc details. Or a map (apparently there was one). It was like if you asked the right question you'd get a response. 3. AC worked somewhat adequately but didn't get super cold bed was a bit hard pillows flat. 4. Patio seat cushions need replacing 5. We had called in advance of our stay -however staff never told us that restaurant reservations were needed (full and booked when we got there) or offer to make us an advanced reservation. Their website showed spa open but was closed, that there was NO pool service and note that you should plan to bring your own towel and ice chest. 6. Restaurant is more more like a 19th hole bar prob because of the golf course. It closes early. And there is limited to no table service at peak times - in fact we had to place our dinner order at the bar. Menu is very limited especially at breakfast (especially healthy options). Pass on the ribeye $32 was tough, thin and way over priced bar is pretty well stocked 7. No room service. 8. While SOME of the staff (limited) wore masks most didn't not and I didn't see any sanitizing of tables and bar while I was there. Would we be back. Yes now that we have the lay of the land. But again staff and website should provide a FAQ so new folks are aware and prepared. And if the spa isn't open. State that on your website! We will be back. B read more

Adequate. Not great. My wife and I live in Dallas and tried this "resort" (why the quotes in a moment) for a weekend getaway. On the plus side, The Cliffs is in a really nice location looking out over PK Lake. I don't play golf, but the course looked nice. I said "resort" (emphasis on the quotes) because the amenities were lacking to say the least. The decor looked like your aunt-who-has-a-passion-for-decorating took over. In-room TVs were o.t.a. rather than HD. The wifi was insecure (but, free). The bathroom felt tired and dated. The staff were nice enough, but their attention to detail was definitely lacking. What few staff there were, I didn't get the sense they were paid very well. The single on-site restaurant left a lot to be desired. Again, the staff were friendly. The beer and wine list got the job done. However, the food left a lot to be desired. I mean, *a lot* to be desired. We arrived on their (weekly?) seafood buffet night, and everything in the buffet line was dried out and inedible. The saving grace was the carving station, so let's just say we ate a lot of roast beef that night. Breakfast the next morning was the same. Same staff, same serving dishes, same inedible buffet dishes. Thank god for the d.i.y. waffle station (which was the same as what you'd find at a Holiday Inn Express). Bottom line, I'd recommend this more for a guys golf outing more than a romantic escape from reality. read more

Beautiful views, friendly people and a nice getaway not far from home! The lodging isn't a resort per say but the room was clean and cozy. Your food options are limited for late night snacks and drinks. Rooms don't have a refrigerator nor is there room service. So make sure you pack some snacks and beverages. The closest gas station closes early so a cooler is a good option. The golf was the main reason for our visit we loved the course it had beautiful views. Breakfast and dinner buffet is available at the restaurant which had a good selection. First weekend has a seafood buffet with live music on the weekends. You have to get on a boat and enjoy the view of the cliffs and go thru hells hate. read more

The only reason this review is getting 2 stars is because the bed and bathroom were clean. The resort hasn't been updates since 60's or 70's. The bathroom had mold on wall, patched ceiling, outdated fixtures and tub is plastic and yellow (as in marbled yellow plastic tub from 60's or 70's). Carpet is stained, smelled very musty, and walls were dirty. We had two queen beds and they didn't have a bed skirt, so you could see the box springs. We stayed in room 305 and paid around $150 a night. This room should have only cost us $75 a night. Very overpriced and not worth the cost. The only reason we stayed was because our friends have a condo and were there for a birthday party and that is the only hotel to choose from. I then stayed a night with my friend in condo and it is a little more updated but found bugs on bed, bandaid rapper in the clean bed, walls were filthy, brown water coming out of tub, and a mouse trap set behind the credenza in the guest bedroom. The only nice thing about this place is the location - and it is very pretty. The dear are everywhere and the views are beautiful. Just wish the owners would take a little more pride in their establishment and do some updates. read more

Agree with earlier post. Not much to do unless golfing or in the lake. Accommodations (we were in a deluxe king suite), were ok. Not getting much for the price. Big negative was the mattress in the fold out bed. Poor quality. I understand it's not going to be a Sleep Number bed but this was bad. The rooms were very clean. Security and staff were friendly and helpful. Didn't get a chance to play but the course seemed well groomed with a nice layout and views. Very disappointed about noises. We came for 2 days to rest. Air conditioning had to be fixed because the temperature inside the room was freezing. The day after, the noise in the morning was so disturbing. The hotel looks nice but not as nice or good as you can see on the pictures. The parking is very limited. It is my first day but I do not feel happy with what we get for the price you pay ($200 per night). I do not recommend it. Hey Cliffs Resort, location and a pretty view are not enough. Get some people who know how to serve people in an intelligent, friendly, efficient manner. Oh and it's 2015. How about getting wifi? Towels by the pool would be nice and maybe have someone who empties trashcans outdoor instead of letting hundreds or cans and loads of trash overflow to bring wasps. You know you have a lot of guests, so why not have a worker empty trash cans often? Literally the piles of trash and wasps are what greet you as you enter the pool. This could be so great, but the service and lack of amenities just ruin it. Way too expensive for what you get. It's as if they just don't need to care. They took our temperature when we checked in, but not sure why they would bother: Very few of the staff wore masks/wore masks correctly. The guard at the entry did not wear one and tried to lean into our car to ask questions! The hotel has a beautiful view of the lake but to call this a resort is a huge stretch. The pool is not close by and there is not much to do. The exterior is nicely kept. The rooms are very clean but in need of a remodel: If you tried to plug in something, it would immediately fall out, the carpet looks worn in many places, and the water was barely warm. Maybe this is a great place for golfing, but beyond that, I can't recommend this place. read more

This place is THE ONLY PLACE to stay on Possum Kingdom Lake. Very clean, great service, gorgeous rooms, and wonderful marina- although usually pretty crowded. The marina does not allow slip rental which is a bummer. First come first serve is the rule and so finding a slip for the night is pretty darn impossible if you stay out past daylight especially. My only gripe about this place is their restaurant... it is a definite DON'T. All I can say is YUCK. Greasy, yuck. Just don't. Sleep here at eat someplace else! read more

While the scenery is beautiful, and security well maintained, I still have to give this place 3 stars. My entire family stayed here for a wedding and the experience started with the most unpleasant girl at the front desk. We called ahead to ask if we could check in an hour early since we had a rehearsal dinner to make and were told there was no problem. When we arrived at 2:15, the girl was extremely rude and did not even apologize for the inconvenience. She told us our rooms weren't ready and wouldn't be ready until 3:00 or later. Check in is at 3:00, so I don't understand why they would not be ready by 3:00. The place was completely empty because it is a golf resort it's off-season and our family was bringing in 50+ guests to the establishment, and we didn't even get a discounted rate. When we told her we had to be somewhere, she maintained her horrible attitude and told us it wasn't guaranteed. My 82 year old grandfather who requested a bottom floor was given a second floor room and there is not an elevator. The rooms were okay, but not worth the $220 a night in my opinion. I've been to Raddissons nicer. No meals are included, but the buffet is reasonable, $15. The food isn't great, but the wait staff is very good. I loved our waitresses. Unless I was very in to golf, I wouldn't stay here again. There were hardly any accommodations. Go to The Harbor if you're looking for a nice place at a reasonable price. There's also a lot more to do there like horseback riding and canoeing, etc. The golf course looked beautiful, however, I would recommend it for that reason only. read more

A very nice place to take the family or a date. The atmosphere is ranch style and very clean with a nice view of the lake. They have a small bar area great to grab a bite or a drink. They always have cold Jagermeister and are always willing to chill the Fireball. Great place for the evening. read more

Myself and three buddies went to the cliffs in October to play golf. We have been there many times, since the 90s. The golf course is our favorite, because it is difficult, picturesque and well-maintained. I have read some reviews that seemed negative and I would like to explain some of that. One review by a woman who was a guest there with a another couple and her husband wasn't too pleased. She said that the front counter people were less than respectful and friendly. She also said that the small was not good at all to summarize. She said her husband and his friend enjoyed the golf course and the clubhouse and that the staff was very friendly. I agree with that 100%. We always have enjoyed the golf course there. We have never tried the other amenities other than the pool and the restaurant. They have always been adequate and sometimes as with this particular weekend they were excellent! The chef is new and extremely involved in the operation and extremely friendly and helpful. His staff was very friendly pleasant and helpful. Can't say enough about the golf in the restaurant! As for the other amenities I do not know. After the way that me and my friends were treated this last visit I find it hard to believe that anyone was rude to them. Everyone that we dealt with from the front desk to housekeeping to golf course, clubhouse and restaurant was superb and never once seem to be rude or disrespectful in anyway. I don't know this person that put up their review, and I do not mean to be condescending but sometimes people act in a manner or expect so much that no matter what the staff or person is not going to make them happy. As far as charges, we were charged exactly what we were quoted for everything they were extremely happy with our rates. We requested refrigerators in our rooms and they were there upon our arrival as promised. For golf and guys having a good time having a meal and laughing it up with drinks I can't think of a better place. I will continue to go there regularly the rest of my life. First of all let me just say that the view here is amazing. We stayed at The Inn, and if you happen to have a disability count yourself out or a second-floor view because there's no elevator. We only ate breakfast at the Chaparral Grill both days that we stayed (Friday and Saturday The first weekend of April). The granola was the best, HOWEVER if you are a coffee person bring your coffee with you. The pouches that they give you in your room are probably enough for one cup, and the coffee at the grill is it more like water. The waitress was very kind and understanding, and even said that she is heard complaints about the coffee several times. Also, I never received the bagel that I ordered. :( All in all the boat that we rented (Bentley) was great for chilling, with shade and an area to tan. The Seadoo jet ski was too fun! All in all it was a great trip, however I believe we will find somewhere else to stay next time. read more
