Our family members stayed in a cabin near the main office and they liked their accommodations too. They had a charcoal grill, and we used it. No problems. read more

We stayed in one of the 1 story rustic cedar cabins that overlook Possum Kingdom Lake. It was lake staying in a guest house - you bring all your own food and necessities they provide a place to sleep and eat - no maid, room, or valet service here. I personally prefer it that way. Our cabin had a wonderful front porch with awesome wooden rocking chairs that offered amazing sunset views of Possum Kingdom Lake. They are located right across the street from a boat dock and right next to a bar/restaurant for further entertainment. The Rockin' S Bar & Grill next door is open till 1 AM on the weekends and has live music and a game room if you tend to get bored. The main reason we chose this motel/cabin rental is that they allow dogs with no weight limit for a minimal nonrefundable 20.00 deposit, since we had 2 big dawgs with us. The Good: Right across the street from a marina, awesome! With the stay we had slip access, even better! Lots of sleeping accommodations in the cabin. And they come fully furnished, all you need is food and drinks. The Problems: We stayed in one of the two story units which had a lot of potential. We got upstairs and were excited to get out on the balcony and enjoy the sunset. Well that wasn't to be the case, there was a sign posted on the balcony door advising of wind damage that led to wood rot OVER A YEAR AGO and that the balcony was closed for use. When we opened the blinds a whole in the balcony could be seen describing exactly what they were talking about. Thank you for the warning and the concern for my safety, or maybe concerns about a lawsuit. I know that we are at the lake and that we should be enjoying the outdoors, but when traveling with children an upgraded TV (or at least something from this decade) would have been nice so that we could plug in a game system or a DVD player. The beds were hard as rock and the cheap mattresses resting on plywood, making it even harder. They slept but uncomfortably. They were fully booked up, understandable since PK hasn't had this much water in over 5 years, but because of that it was very difficult to get our 2 boats in and out of the grounds. It really is a shame since I think Hide-Away Cabins could have been a really amazing time. Maybe I'm to much of a Millennial and like these "comforts" more than most but with a little more effort they could have been GREAT. read more

We stayed here for four days between Christmas and New Years. What a great escape from the city. The cabins were great, recently remodeled, or at least it seemed that way. They are located across the street from the lake, next to a couple restaurants and in the middle of some 15-20 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. We sent the days hiking and the evenings relaxing on the balcony and by the fire. One of the best get-a-ways with in 2 hours! read more

Horrible experience! Cabins are falling apart, dated, and dirty. It's a shame because the location is great, right across the street from the lake and public boat launch. Deer are present behind some of the cabins as there is a feeder setup. We were there off season but it is still pretty expensive. The provided towels are so used that they are almost transparent and left lint balls all over us. The 18 inch TV/VCR combo brought back some fond memories but seems pretty ridiculous in any rental location, and the remote didn't work. Parking is pretty limited as well. The bed spread was dingy and had a big tear in it. The furniture looks like it was from an 80's sitcom. The provided dishes were dirty which makes sense since the dishwasher didn't really wash dishes. Inside each cabin are numerous signs explaining all the different ways that management can charge you extra money. Lost towel? $10.00. Unauthorized fire? $200.00. Failure to remove your trash? First born child. And speaking of "management," the supposed manager was extremely rude. She came over to the 2 cabins we were renting off season, interrupting our lunch to complain that HER dogs barking the night before had woken her up, and wanting to know what our plans were for the following night. I would love to have explained that her dogs were barking because of people that were yelling down at the public boat ramp, but why should I have to? Her entire approach to us was unacceptable and unprofessional. We've made an annual trip here for five straight years as it had become a bit of a tradition. We've watched the cabins get worse and worse but rude management is the last straw. We will not be back. read more

We loved our stay here, brought a family of 5 and our dog for a week away from the city. This place is amazing. We hiked, fished, swam, boated, grilled and chilled in the cabin and everything was perfect. The staff went our of their way to be helpful but not intruding. The restaurants nearby are awesome, and one right next door. The owner of the place even stopped by to see how we were doing, talk about rockstar service! I will definitely book this place AT LEAST every couple years for vacation. read more

My wife and I arrived Friday afternoon with our two dogs. Checked in at the main office. The rooms were very spacious, deer running around intrigued our dogs, our dogs stared at the deer thinking they were bigger dogs, wondering why they didn't wish to play. The Inn rooms were in good shape, everything was clean. Looked at, but did not stay in the cabins. They seem somewhat dated and "rustic". Happy with the Inn choice. I was attending an adult training event at BSA Camp Constantin, during the day my wife hiked with the dogs by the marina and the beaches by the Camp. I was very comfortable, quiet place. Everybody was very friendly. We liked the stay. This review is gratuitous. read more

We stayed at the PK Hide-away cabins this weekend and I'm sad to say it was less than desirable. Pros- The grounds are beautiful, very well maintained, there were deer just a few feet from our cabin, it had a great view and the location was wonderful. The porches were great. Cons - The cabin was grungy and the furnishings were old and worn, the interior paint was chipped thoughout. The bathroom door stuck and could only be opened 1/2 way. I was told it would sleep 6 but only had 5 very flat pillows and no sheets for the futon in the living area. Most of this we could have dealt with but the worst part was the bed. We basically had to hold onto the edge all night to keep from falling into the saggy middle. In addition to it how noisy it was, every move you made created a significant sound. And one of my boys complained about being "itchy" all night. I've travelled extensively and must say I was disappointed in this establishment. When we went to the front office to let them know there was an issue we were told she couldn't do anything. I prepaid for 2 nights but left early because I just couldn't sleep in that bed another night. They refused to refund our money for the unused night and wanted to charge an additional $71 for a different cabin. I think the worst part was that they made no attempt to correct the situation and try to satisfy the customer. When I made the reservation the office was helpful but it seems once they got my money thats when the customer service ended. The desk clerk said I should hear from the corporate office on Monday, I guess we'll see if that changes. I just didn't feel like it was worth the $115 a night I was charged. I did reserve one of the older cabins, but I've stayed in many older establishments and I don't think my expectations are unreasonable. It's now Saturday evening and I'm home instead of having the relaxing weekend get-away I was looking forward to. I am very disappointed. read more

We choose to stay at these cabins because broken bow was all booked up. Well we didn't know what type of treat we were in for. We check in a little early and were able to bring out dog which was awesome. We get inside the cabin and it is very dated I'm pretty sure my grandma has a more up to date tv than this place. Don't get me wrong we didn't plan on watching a lot of tv anyways so not a big deal. The hiking trails are right up the road which is awesome best trails we've seen in a while with little written signs about the sites you can stop at. we did over 8 miles of hiking. PK obviously isn't known for their variety of food so we brought our own food assuming the pots and pans would be sufficient for us to cook on, nope they look like they are as old as the tv. Didn't attempt to cook on them for fear of eating half the pan. After going to boondocks for a couple margaritas which were great. So then the straw that broke the camels back... The beds they were terrible my husband slept only 4 hours I slept longer probably because of the margaritas I consumed. Woke up with terrible back aches and decided we just couldn't stay another night. I'm giving two stars just because customer service was great when we went into the office to let them know we weren't planning on staying another night and why the lady stated she totally understood and gave us refund for the additional night we had planned to stay but didn't. I agree totally with the review before mine that said with a little tlc these cabins could be amazing. Update tv, beds and pans and this place could definitely be worth staying at. read more

We stayed at the Hide-Away Cabins and Inn, actually the Inn. We were there for a wedding, so we reviewed what was supposed to be a discounted rate of $99.00. We went to office, picked up key and drove about 1/2 mile on the Farm to Market road, back to the Inn. The first entrance had 2 ridiculously huge potholes, that could not be avoided. We walked in the room (actually, there were several of us, but we each had our own room) and everyone said they thought their rooms were warm. I attempted to adjust my A/C but after using my phone flashlight on the thermostat, so I could read it, I read that the battery needed to be replaced (on the thermostat). I immediately called the office (from my cell, as the rooms have no phone or any way to contact the office from them). I told them what I read off thermostat, regarding batteries. They called me back and asked if I was planning on being in the room for a while, I told them yes. As I was waiting, I read a sign posted next to thermostat. It said "do not turn A/C below 74 or it will freeze up and you will not have A/C for the remainder of your stay, and you will not be refunded". (I will post picture of signs.) Some young man arrived quickly with a box of batteries, none were wrapped, just loose in this plastic box. He tried several, I asked if the batteries were used batteries, he said, I think so, I don't know why they called me, I'm a bartender. (I personally never saw the restaurant or bar that must be associated.). Anyway, he found two that fit. But I tried to turn it down after he left, but it was a digital thermostat and it would not allow me to turn down below 74. Some of the other rooms did not have digital ones, I'm not sure if theirs could be turned down below 74/75. When I entered the room, to the right was a room with a tub, a door and then a room with a toilet. To my left of the entry door, was a sink with vanity / mirror and a pole a cross the back for a closet. You use the toilet on the right, passed tub, walk across, passed front doorway, to sink to wash hands. Really different. The rooms are big, two full beds, and a small fridge, a microwave and a coffee pot (NO COFFEE or any condiments or stir straws), with a sink, dresser and wooden old style entertainment stand in them. I guess the Vizio TV was maybe 33 ". There was another door to area facing street, and a picnic table was out there, on a small cement slab. There were actually 2, as your patio shares with room next to you. There were buckets, I suppose to act as ashtrays outside, they were full of water. One of my friends staying there, pushed her bucket of water over and some really gross stuff came out. The most interesting part was the sign that stated you had to take your trash to the dumpster, yourself, or you would be charged $25.00. Many other weird signage, I will post them. read more

Normally I check the reviews before booking, but I did not this time. The cabin was SO hot we had sweat beads rolling down our faces and had 3 box fans going. I went into the office and asked for Lynn. The lady behind the desk said that was her mother but she is not in and what can she help with? I told her it was so hot in the cabin even with the fans. She said in a very rude and sarcastic voice "well, what do you want me to do about it? I can't change the weather" I told her my mother in law just had a lung transplant and she can't take the heat. She just sat there staring at me and said "and?". This lady should NOT be dealing with anyone at the front desk. She was so unprofessional and disrespectful. She definitely lost customers. We will never go back there again. Keep in mind her office was nice and cold while we sat in our cabin sweating. Now, for the cabin. They have a sign saying do not turn the A/C under 74 or it will freeze. There were cracks in the ceiling in the living room. Water stains on the ceiling in the bedroom and living room. We had to put a pan under the cracks in the living room because it was leaking water. The beds are a piece of wood with a think mattress. The refrigerator did not keep our food cold. The TV was a 19 inch. We could over look all of that IF the rude lady in the front office would have been a little nicer. For the price this was NOT acceptable!!! read more

These are very nice cabins. The only complaint is the couches and chair are worn out and uncomfortable.

If you think of the experience as an upgrade from camping, you will find everything adequate. There are large grills to use for cooking - but you need to bring everything as you would when camping: charcoal, foil, lighter/ matches, utensils, serving dishes, cutting board, plates, cups, paper towels. For the cost per night, I would have liked the cabin to have been better stocked with supplies. But overall, it was a nice experience. Yes, we had to haul our own trash, and yes, we had to make sure not to get the cabin too cold, yes the linens were outdated, and yes there were some cosmetic deficiencies... but everything seemed clean and we could bring our dog. We spent most of our days out on the water so we thought of this as camping but better. read more

After reading some of the venomous reviews on here I was a bit skeptical but there were also positive reviews so decided to go ahead and book a cabin for the weekend and end Spring Break on a high note. We did. My wife, son and dog arrived after a short two hour jaunt from D/FW to meet Karin, the owner, toiling away in the office. She was extremely kind and helpful in explaining what there was to do at PK. It was our first time so this was important information to have. We chatted for a bit and had our key to cabin 8 and made our way up the hill. Upon entry we were pleasantly surprised to see granite countertops and a tile floor in the kitchen. We obviously were in one of the renovated units. Yay! Not that I'm too good for an old school cabin but hey I'll take it. Relatively new carpet and a decent mattress and a nice covered porch with adirondak chairs and a picnic table greeted us next. I honestly have no complaints about this place. The sofa and chair were in pretty bad shape so there was that. The price was competitive with other cabin rentals in the area and overall it was a very nice cabin. Queen deluxe is what it was called on the list of rates. The views from the porch are mostly obstructed by the trees preventing a view of the lake. I imagine if you were on the lake all day this wouldn't matter much. We only hiked, many trail heads located nearby, so a better view would have been nice but we were fine with it. Very peaceful and relaxing place and we will be back someday. If I have one suggestion it would be an upgrade on the mounted TV over the fireplace. It's literally the same TV my wife had when we were dating in college. A tv/vcr combo that can't be more than 19". Drop a hundy and put a proper flat screen over that beautiful fireplace.
