Advertised that they are bonded and insured, but when something was broken and damaged in my home, they are refusing to fix the damage. The damage to my bathtub has been estimated by a professional contractor at $3600! The owner has been difficult to reach, and is refusing to fix it. He is also not being forthcoming with insurance information either. So hours and hours of research to figure out how to get compensated in order to fix this damage, which will likely have to be settled in court. It should not be this difficult. Beware - get this information before hiring a contractor (and hope it doesn't change) just in case you need them to back up one of their strongest advertising claim. read more

The Cleaning Authority did a great job! Specifically Ann and Abby. They truly went above and beyond. I was very pleased.

I hired The Cleaning Authority (Troy) to clean my house after a significant kitchen remodel, which included brand-new appliances. The experience with them has been nothing short of a nightmare. After one of their cleans, I found scratches all over the control panel of my microwave and my stainless steel refrigerator. They initially came out and took pictures, acknowledged the damage, then tried to tell me it was "normal wear and tear." This is ludicrous as the appliances are 3 months old! No one other than The Cleaning Authority had cleaned the kitchen up until that point. They said they don't use abrasive products - again not true. I found one of their sponges left behind in my master bathroom, which would absolutely scratch plastic and stainless steel. They said they spoke to the crew that cleaned my house and they denied using anything other than a microfiber cloth. Of course they didn't admit to any wrongdoing - it could put their job at risk. I asked for the owner to call me, more than two weeks ago now, and never received a response. Their lack of responsibility and accountability is deeply disappointing. My intention in leaving this review is to prevent others from facing a similar issue. If you care about the condition of items in your home, as I'm sure you do, DO NOT use The Cleaning Authority. Really wanted this to be a good experience but it simply wasnt. 1. Scheduled an appt at a certain date/time a week before. When calling to confirm the day of, they had changed the time without telling me. I had it marked in my phone calendar after finishing the appointment conversation a week earlier. They acted like they had nonidea what I am talking about. I had to rejuggle my schedule to make it work. Aggravation I did not need. 2. Cleaning crew missed a lot. See pictures. My place was already pretty clean to begin with. The kitchen cabinets were still greasy after they were done. Inside one of the cabinet there was a stain that was never touched. I will not bother using them again. The only areas cleaned was counter tops, sinks, toilets, mirrors, parts of the tiles in the bathroom, bathtub. The fridge, cabinets, the trims, light fixtures and other areas are not cleaned properly. I am not sure if customers are supposed to use a post it note on EVERY surface that needs cleaning. It's a company that's filled with woman. Doesn't mean they support them. The employees PTO builds over time. The company doesn't accept dr.s notes. And doesn't accept time off around any holiday. Life happens and this company does not care. 4 call offs in 6month period resorts to a suspension, and after it's termination. There's no healthcare and we use our own transportation. The branch repairs their equipment themselves. The vacuums are always sub par condition. Never willing to give us new equipment to actually be able to clean efficiently. Some customers leave full poops on toilet seats and we are expected to clean that too. Management is aloud to call out regarding health but employees aren't. When the company cares about their employees more, that's when customers will get the experience they desire. Please invest in a small woman owned cleaning service. Manager came out to see the house and bid the job. Never wanted to see the house, directly to the table to talk money. I agreed to the upcharge the first 2 visits as they were doing a "detail clean" and things would be on a rotating basis after that. What a joke. Two ladies were here a total of 2 hours. Mind you the house has over 2800 sq ft. They didnt move anything to dust, just went around what was there. Furniture was half dusted (you could see the lines where they did and didnt dust). im not going into how bad the bathrooms were done. Manager called and I explained to him my the situation. After having two "detail-cleans" from the Cleaning Authority I have learned that 1) they are the most expensive cleaning service in the area, yet their pricing is NOT reflective of the quality of their work, 2) my husband's former college roommate provides a more comprehensive clean than they do (they did not clean one of the bathrooms, 1 of 3 rugs were vacuumed, kitchen sink and counter were not clean, appliances were never wiped down, furniture was not vacuumed, 75% of the house was not dusted), 3) although they say they will return to your home within 24 hours to address any issues, they DO NOT 4) they have managed to develop the most complicated and confusing cleaning rotation schedule, which is simply an excuse that they have developed for not providing even a standard clean, 5) their customer service is NONEXISTENT - good luck reaching anyone in management to address an issue. I was so frustrated with my experience that I called their corporate office. They apologized and notified me that they are unable to regulate the quality of their independently owned franchises. They called the Troy office on my behalf requesting that they resolve the issue. I have still yet to hear from the Troy office. Save yourself the headache and do not hire The Cleaning Authority of Troy to clean your house. You are much better off with a different cleaning service. read more

The absolute worst company. Their cleaning is terrible, and their management / customer service are even worse (details below). We ended up having put in in a fraud report with our credit card company related to their services to get our money back and are reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. If it wasn't such a hassle, I'd put in a police report against them. Save yourself the hassle! Observations (1) They don't clean your house - we did two "detail cleans" with them and they did not even do a basic clean either time. For example, our stairs were filthy, they did not even wipe our island, or clean our sink & stove (we have a Nanny cam so rewatched the tape and saw them not even clean these areas). I could go on and on with this list. They'll try to use their extremely complex cleaning schedule to justify not doing basic things. Expect to clean your house after they leave. (2) They don't respect your property or instructions. We have a very expensive dining room table and we specifically asked them to not spray chemicals on it. Immediately after this (while I was working in my office), they sprayed chemicals on it, in front of their manager (Brian) and he (thinking I was on a call) said "oh just don't tell them, I'm sure it'll be fine." (3) They do not keep their promises. Per our agreement, we asked them to come back and complete a clean, and offered to review the video with them if they did not believe us. They refused, and did not even credit us any (or all) of the money back. Their corporate office apologized, but is powerless to do anything about their branches. We ended up having to get our credit card company to put in a fraud claim against them to dispute the charge, and are pursuing other avenues to recoup the money from the services that we paid for but were not delivered. read more

This is the most disappointing cleaning service. They left all cleaning halfway, they don't clean the freezer, dishwasher, oven. The only thing they did was vacuum and they took 3.5 hrs to clean a 2 bed room apartment and they charged 450$. They are not professional and they cannot answer why it took 3.5 hrs with out cleaning any appliances. Very unprofessional and not at all a value for the money. They came to the apartment and gave me a quote saying it will take any where from 1.5-2 hrs max, and yet they charged me for 4.5 hrs, they don't call you when they start and finish the cleaning. I am really frustrated and disappointed with the way this cleaning service works. I wouldn't recommend this to any one unless you are on site and monitor them. I have used cleaning authority for about two years. I have the same crew most times. My current crew Bryan, Ashley and Nicole were just here and they work well together and are very kind to my 2 active dogs who are big greeters! When something is missed I usually just tell the crew. First of all the cleaning was scheduled yesterday, after calling there office 4 times we were told that they can't come and they will do it the next day. This is not professional! There were two ladies one cleaned the bathrooms (bathrooms were cleaned really nicely) and other did the vacuuming. On being asked if you do window sills, carpet edges and wall bottom area cleaning she said that will be done in the next cleaning, but in their booklet all of that is mentioned to be done in first cleaning. None of the doors and door frames were cleaned. Carpet vacuum was also done as if a kid would do it very superficially. Plus my house smelled like cigarette smoke after the cleaning. The owner came over, checked out my house and gave a quote of $75 for every other week cleaning. I was feeling pretty good about it because he seemed put together, had a very detailed checklist and said they used all green cleaning supplies. The first two weeks cost $95 because they do a special deep clean on these visits. Cut to the arrival of the duo scheduled to do deep clean #1. These two ladies roll out of their jalopy looking hung over and smelling like cigarettes. They had no idea this was a deep cleaning appointment, but I had the checklist there for them to look over so they could ensure they got everything done. They finished in just under two hours and the cleaning was shallow. I know I can be a stickler for detail, but I think any oblivious soul out there would be able to tell this wasn't worth $95. Most of the things they say they do on the checklist weren't done in real life. I called and told them about this, they offered to come back and fix their mistakes, but I told them not to bother. I said something about only getting once chance to make a first impression in a peeved tone. Told them to watch out for a negative Yelp review and here it is. Now I have someone doing a better job at a fraction of the cost. If only I'd come to Yelp sooner I could've avoided dealing with this terrible business in the first place. read more

I agree with the other review. I had Tim out for an estimate 6 months ago. I hired a different company that I later fired because I didn't feel they were thorough enough in their cleaning. I called Cleaning Authority for another chance. Tim came over again for an estimate. After 2 weeks, he never called me back with the estimate, so I called him and left message with the office help. Another week gone by and still no call back. I gave it 1 more try and left a voice mail for Tim. He never called back! Now, what kind of business doesn't need to add customers!!! A BAD company, I guess. I recommend you steer clear of this company. There is something wrong with the owner that he would not call a customer back with a cleaning quote!! Tim and Jessica were both professional, friendly and prompt with their process. I'm impressed. I scheduled an appointment for the estimate and Tim came at my convenience. The quote was written while he was still there and it was extremely reasonable - I hired them on the spot. He thoroughly explained their very innovative cleaning process and answered all my questions. Their security method is more than satisfactory so I have zero hesitation giving them a key. They handle my three dogs w/o problems as well. 2 women are assigned to my home and it is spotless when I arrive home for the evening. They are consistent and leave a checklist of what was done. Nothing is ever out of place and they even clean all my knick-knacks etc. They do baseboards, trim around the doors, inside the stove hood, dust blinds...a total white glove cleaning via their rotation method. It's perfect. I have found that dealing with a professional company with integrity and an established, proven successfull process really works for me and my lifestyle. Formerly my 'cleaning ladies' frequently presented with scheduling problems, forgot major tasks, never handled knick knacks and NEVER LOOKED UP....my major pet peeve...cobwebs in the corners, on ceiling, chandeliers, above drapes etc. No more issues now! I could probably write 10 paragraphs of examples to back my review. Instead, I'll give brief bullet points. - they forgot their cleaning supplies on more than occasion - I had no idea they cleaned my home until I saw their note - they asked me if I "actually wanted my beds made" - they are significantly more expensive than other companies - I called to complain after every cleaning and they never offered to take money off until I asked - they NEVER cleaned every room they were supposed to and someone always had to come back Don't waste your time! I've been a client of The Cleaning Authority for years. They clean my Birmingham home, and also my small Birmingham business office. They're consistently dependable and courteous! They care. I read some of the nasty reviews here, which seem pretty unfair. The staffers are doing a really unpleasant job and at pretty low pay (or else the company would have to charge so much, nobody would hire them!). Be fair, guys. They're cleaning out your toilet because you don't want to. I love the Cleaning Authority. Folks, if you want something special for your house, spell it out up front. Be willing to pay extra for more comprehensive work that you seek if that's what you want. It's unfair to pressure them for a cheap price if you're going to hold them to a million-dollar standard. I received a detailed list of items that would be completed when my house was cleaned. The first cleaning included a deep/detailed clean of the bathrooms and kitchen. Unfortunately many of the items were not completed: the floor was not cleaned, surfaces were not wiped down, blinds were not dusted. Throughout the rest of my home, things were moved on bookcases and were put back out of order and on different shelves. In general, my home looked messier after this cleaning service. I've been using the Troy franchise of this company for about 2 years now. I am on the fence about how many stars to give this company. In a nutshell, their customer service and responsiveness to complaints is worth 5 stars, and I feel that's extremely important with a company so I gave that more weight. The actual cleaning and how much they adhere to their own checklists can vary wildly, depending on the crew you get. After their very first time cleaning my home (supposedly a "deep clean") I was seriously underwhelmed. I was so disappointed that I almost canceled them completely, but I decided to call and express my dissatisfaction and give them a chance to make it right. I'm glad I did. Tammy, the quality control supervisor (not sure of her official title) came right out to our house within an hour, with a different crew. She went through the entire house looking at the areas I was dissatisfied with and completely validated my feelings. She didn't make me feel as though I was being nitpicky or expecting too much and she apologized and I believe said she would address that in training with them. She supervised the crew redoing it and told me she would not send that original crew back to our house (unless we wanted them, which we didn't, because I felt awkward about complaining and then having them back). Since then, our crew has been fairly consistent with the lead person (Tammy's daughter, Amber), though the second person sometimes varies and my impression is that sometimes Amber may be training the other person. Amber is very friendly and personable. All of the employees are polite, but Amber is especially chatty and approachable. I feel very comfortable asking her to be sure they get XYZ because it's especially dirty, etc. There have been a few other people who were especially personable and I'd be thrilled to have as part of my regular team, but I know them only by face instead of by name, as they are usually just there when the regular crew isn't available. My biggest complaint is that I feel like if you don't sometimes complain to the office, the quality seems to go down, particularly with the things that they may feel will not be noticed, like wiping baseboards or dusting blinds. Or maybe it's just that they are genuinely forgetting those things because they are rushing. This is especially true when the crew changes and they aren't the ones who usually do your house. I suspect (though I don't know for sure) that the crew are under a lot of pressure to get in and out of houses as quickly as possible, and I feel bad that the crew doesn't get paid nearly as much as independent cleaners, even though we're paying just as much if not more. Of course I know there's overhead and it's a business thing, I just feel bad. If I had to guess, in the 2 years that I've been using them I've probably called to complain 3-5 times, but each time I have, Tammy has been equally as responsive and has sent another crew out to redo the problem areas and she has come to personally inspect it. I also suspect the crews put a little more effort into our house because they don't want us to complain. One thing I especially appreciate about having a company like this vs an individual is that they are very accommodating of our schedule. We asked for Friday cleaning days and we got it. We asked that they come in the afternoon because of our kids, and they do. They give us a window where the crew will arrive between 1 and 3pm and they are very respectful of us needing to keep it in the afternoon. All in all, I've been pleased, especially because of the way they handle complaints. I'm a meticulous house keeper but a busy mom with young children who doesn't have time to do it all. Even though they present themselves as doing deep cleaning rotations, it really feels to me more like what I would consider regular cleaning, but I have pretty high standards even when I'm the one cleaning. It really seems to help if you get a regular crew who gets to know your house and gets to know what areas bother you the most. My own rule of thumb about calling to complain is if it's just a couple minor things, then I will let it go, and maybe mention it to the crew if they miss it more than once. If they miss something major (like one time they completely missed the guest bathroom floor and it was a mess) as well as minor things, I will call. I also called once because there were several things not done well PLUS they missed something that I specifically asked them to get. I should also add that my mom, who is the most impossible person to please and is NEVER happy with cleaning people, saw them in action one day and actually complimented their work to me...said they seem thorough!!! read more

The cleaning authority was awlful!!! They broke several items in my home as well as missed areas. The owner Jim has a terrible arrogant elitist attitude and he's very unreasonable. When I complained about missed areas he wanted to raise the price of my cleaning by $10.00. I've given this company two chances -- used them for about a year and then fired them for poor service. I am new in the area and couldn't figure out who else to use, so after about 6 months I hired them again. They do not take care with my home and I have fired them for a second time. I have dents in my walls and trim from them banging their equipment into them, scuff marks on newly painted surfaces, missed areas and last week they dumped their mop water down my driveway in the sub-zero weather, leading to a nice ice patch. I can't imagine why they would do that but it was the breaking point to me. read more

The WORST cleaning company I have ever experienced. We have always tried different companies and referrels but this by far was the most terrible one. The cleaning staff are rude,unfriendly, and have a tendency to break things because their only concern is cleaning quickly to get in and out. They have somehow managed to puncture a hole in my sink, they cut my mirror,and broke a ceramic basket that was in the bathroom. Most of their "inital clean" is not completed as promised. They do not follow their timings and show up later without notice. Complains to upper management is no help at all, they too were very rude. The last time we called to tell them we are not happy with their service, the manager simply said "ok its canceled" and hung up. Some customer service ......defintely not recommending this company to anyone unless you want to get ripped off, disappointed, and have things broken! read more

Tim did provide an estimate. I decided to move forward but then nobody showed up to clean my house on the agreed upon date. When I called, they tried to blame me by saying that I must not have called to set anything up because it wasn't in their system. I told her that I was absolutely positive that I called. And I know that I called because I purposely arranged to work from home on that agreed upon day AFTER I contacted you and established the day. She then asked me who I talked with and I told her that I didn't remember (in my head I was thinking, I didn't realize that I needed to keep an audit trail to get my house cleaned). She then asked me if "Tim really came out to my house" as if I was lying. I remained polite and professional but the conversation didn't improve. I told her that I wasn't sure if I wanted to even reschedule and I would call back. Never got an apology and never got a call back. I agree with Deb that it seems like they don't need any new customers based on how this was handled. read more
