Hot real chocolate Mocha
Claire H.

THE best hot chocolate i've ever had. Euphorically good. Rich, decadent, velvetty but not so sweet it will make you sick. Just sip it slooowwwlllyyy - that's if you can restrain yourself. They also do some slight alterations on the chocolate liquid like mint, orange and cinnamon. Mmmmmm.....feast your eyes on my pic.

Can't resist their frogs chocolates.

One of the most exciting part about my trip to Melbourne is finding little cafes that take my breath away.... Especially when it's a chocolate centric cafe located in the historically gorgeous Royal Arcade. Chokolait is a perfectly small and "hidden" cafe (tucked away in the basement of the arcade) run by the dynamic chocolate-maker duo whose passion for their crafts can be seen from their hands on approach behind the counter. As for the menu, it will certainly delight all chocolate lovers by putting highlight on everything chocolate (cakes, drinks, chocolate gifts, fondue, etc.) For my drink, I went with the chili dark chocolate, it comes with your preferred level of heat, I opted for 5 out of 10 and it had barely any hint of spiciness. The chocolate, however, was stunning. They use genuine Belgian chocolate, which resulted in slightly bitter, thick and creamy, scrumptious drink! Think of your favorite chocolate drink, but couple times more intense, definitely not for the faint of heart! And if you feel there is no such thing as sugar coma, do paired your drinks with their Strawberry Pavlova cake... It was so damn fine!! Pricey at $14.95 per slice, even more so than the luxurious Hopetoun next door, but it was oh-so-worth-it! The cake is very moist and paired beautifully with the melted white chocolate on top, sinfully delicious and such an unforgettable indulgence!

Dark chocolate and chili hot chocolate. Yum!

Wow, nobody's written a review for this place yet? I mean it is a bit tucked away, isn't it? I am a chocolate lover. I eat the stuff practically every day. And I'm very very picky when it comes to chocolate. Being from the US, most of our chocolate is just junk; it's no good. But when I have really good chocolate, I take notice. And this place is amazing. We were here on a particularly cold and rainy afternoon so hot chocolate was the order of the day. My wife had hot milk chocolate and I had the hot chili dark chocolate and we were both in heaven. I will say that we had a bit of a sugar high after all that, but it was worth it. Definitely gives you a pick-up on a cold day. Will definitely be back to sample their other chocolates!

This is some INTENSE chocolate. How intense? My self-professed chocoholic better half was almost finished off by her "hot shots" (thick to drink) chocolate after about three spoonfuls. I had a chili dark hot chocolate with a six (out of ten) on the spicy meter. It was thick, creamy and left a pleasant burn after each sip. For those who regularly enjoy Thai or spicy Mexican, you could easily do a seven. You can upgrade to specific genuine origin dark chocolates as well, including a crazy 80% from Uganda. The thing is, unless you're an absolute chocolate fanatic, I wouldn't even recommend getting a hot chocolate by yourself... it's just too much. The iced banana I saw someone else drinking on the other hand looked delightful.

Diabetics beware!! I got taken here a few days ago and I think I still have a sugar high. Through the Royal Arcade and down what feels like some mysterious side alley is Chockolait. It's a welcoming space - big comfy sofas and enough tables and chairs so you can bring your posse of cacao loving friends. The cabinets are filled with hand crafted Chocolates - some made in house and the others imported directly from Belgium. I wasn't visiting for these, though. I was told I was here to try the hot chocolate and with six styles to choose from, all with the option of dark or milk chocolate, I needed a moment to decide. In the end I went with the chili hot chocolate, using dark chocolate and a chili kick of "8" on the scale of 1-10. It came to the table in a giant glass and on my first mouthful I was in chocolate heaven, but seriously worried about my ability to finish the whole thing. Thick and rich with a nice burn from the chili, it was probably the most hardcore hot chocolate I've ever had and indeed I couldn't finish it, much to the delight of my friend who got to have the rest of it.

Try the chocolate pavlova, the best in Melbourne. The homemade ice tea and ice coffee are so good too

We were looking for a restaurant that was less touristy than many of the others along the laneways,…read moreand we came upon Tipo 00 so we made a reservation. We're glad we did! Here's what we noticed: - It was difficult to get a reservation at prime dinner hour, so we opted for a 3:30 PM late lunch/early dinner which worked out perfectly for our schedule. - The place overall has a great vibe, good music, and it is pretty small. - There were some really interesting drinks and good wines to choose from...we went with wine since we had other plans later that evening. - We decided to start with the salad with pear and honey, and then my wife and I split both the black squid ink pasta, and the special pasta that had Moreton Bay Bugs. The salad was incredible perfectly dressed... Having it first gave us away as Americans for sure, but it was perfect. The squid ink pasta was every bit as good as everyone said in reviews, and so was the special pasta. - Service was great, not overbearing. They even brought us some extra bread so we could sop up the sauce from our pasta. Bottom line: There are so many great restaurants in Melbourne and Tipo 00 is right up there and should be on your "to try list".

Sat at the bar and enjoyed wine, complementary focaccia, an appetizer of fried zucchini flowers,…read morethe tortellini for our entree then their house brownie tiramisu for dessert. Delicious meal from start to finish, excellent service and one of the best Italian meals we've had. Highly recommend.

Cute little Korean restaurant on Rose Lane, the "new laneway" in the Upper West Side building…read more Korean Table is surrounded by I Love Chicken, Hakoya Ramen, Kyoto Mart, and Rolling Nori - and it holds its own for sure! I came here on New Years Day for dinner. The menu is 6 pages long, but there is a picture of every dish, which makes it really helpful to decide (I assume especially if you're not Korean). I kept it classic and went with the beef bibimbap, and boy am I glad I did! The only adjustment I made was no bean sprouts. Served in a sizzling hot stone bowl, you'll have to control yourself for a couple of minutes to let the rice continue to cook and get all crispy on the edges. The server was quite sweet and asked me if I knew how to eat it when she delivered the bowl. I sheepishly said, "um, mix it all together?" and she nodded in approval and skipped away. All of the ingredients and flavors blended together perfectly, aided by a generous helping of gochugang (sweet/spicy red sauce). I added a grapefruit soju to wash it down. Like many places, you'll self serve cutlery (chopsticks, spoons, napkins) as well as water from the counter. Someone takes your order either at the register or your table (didn't seem to be rhyme or reason to which or why), and then drops off your food when you're done. Space is tailored to groups of 2 or 4, though one group of about 6 or 7 kids came in together looking worse for wear after NYE. Prices are about $15 each for most entrees. The food was delicious (see photos) and I will be back!
