    More pastries galore

In a temp spot, and it still works. Got some hot honey and muffin. Can't miss after grabbing some pizza.

What a cool spot! There are two sides to the business, a pizza side and the cheese and baked goods side. When we stopped in, the pizza side had live music and there was a line out the door. We were more interested in pastries so we headed next door and ordered a variety of items to go. The team was very friendly and all the options were displayed on the back wall. I ended up getting a marionberry scone ($3.85), a corn cherry scone ($3.85), a cheese roll ($4), and a pecan roll ($4.50). The scones are huge and dense, but still fluffy. The pecan roll is sweet, but not too sweet, and the cheese roll is savory and chewy- Pop it in the microwave for a couple seconds and it's even better. All of these pair great with coffee and I'd recommend sharing so you can try more than one thing, they're big! I'm so glad I got to experience this little local gem!

This is what community looks like. Food opportunities for the EBT people affected. Thank you Cheese Board for sharing to the low-income community: the place was very supportive of us, and you made it easy. I appreciate you and your great hospitality and the beautiful music.

The name alone made me stop as I envisioned a full spread of cheese, charcuterie, and all the accompaniments and while the pizzeria next door was between lunch and dinner service, I popped into the cheese shop side. The line was long but moved quickly and the majority of people appeared to be picking up what looked like half baked pizzas to finish at home. Since my hotel didn't have an oven, I opted for a premade salad and a hot apple cider. I literally love hot apple cider and The Cheeseboard Collective's cider was divine as it was perfectly spiced and warming (despite the warm July day!) The salad had organic roasted beets, toasted walnuts, organic romaine lettuce, and a blue cheese dressing which was ultimately fresh and tasty, though a little pricey for the portion sizing. Service was friendly and efficient. If I lived nearby, I would definitely visit all the time to try new cheeses!

What I love most about cheeseboard is that every single day I'm able to try in season local fresh produce from farms across the Bay Area. Although I was first hesitant to try a meatless vegetarian pizza, I quickly became a fan of cheeseboard's unique take on pizza every week. I look forward to seeing what's on the menu every Monday night. My absolute favorites include: the butternut squash pizzas, the fig pizzas, and of course the potato pizza. And anytime there is an arugula salad with a lemon dressing on top of the pizza, I'm there! On top of daily variety, cheeseboard also offers vegan/gluten-free options all year round. I have especially been impressed with cheeseboard's action to support immigrant communities in these challenging times. This should stand as no surprise since cheeseboard is a cooperatively owned restaurant. They invest in their workers and in the community, offering musical time slots for local talent daily. The ambience is packed but extremely welcoming. You can expect long lines for both lunch and dinner, but it's worth the wait!

I loved this spot. So fun and energetic. The band they had playing made the vibes fantastic. The pizza was amazing and tasted fresh. Very cheesy and served hot. I never thought I'd be a fan of corn on pizza but I was taken by surprise. Make sure to get the green sauce because it makes the experience EVEN better. We also got the salad. Had to wait in line for 15 minutes but not bad for a Saturday. Food came out quick

Cheese Board is a fav! Each week there's a new pizza their flavors are always fresh, unique, and super tasty. There's pretty much always a line down the street, so make sure you get there early. The vibe is classic Berkeley funky, welcoming, and always with a live band playing outside. It feels like a community gathering. The green sauce they give you to dip the pizza in? Delicious!! Everything is freshly made at their bakery next door, and it's all locally and organically sourced, which I love. I couldn't recommend Cheese Board enough it's a must if you're in Berkeley.

This place has gone wrong big time, so I'm missing nothing. I came here to get some cheese and there were no people behind the counter to help. It's all self-serve. I assume that there are no tastes either. They changed how they give out bread, it's no longer self-serve so you have to wait in the longest of lines. So a line for the cheese and then the line for the bread. Another gripe, they have a gluten-free loaf, but don't make enough. There are never enough here, so even when I get there after they've been open for an hour. And the pizza, I'll review them next. Gone are the days when I would dream of this place and wish to be there. I lived in the area and would walk down to get my breads, some cheese and a coffee. But never again! I have to say that I used to love the idea of supporting a small-ish, collective, but their time has passed. This place is the definition of has been. The truth is that I can make my own bread and have options, rather than relying on their tired carrot loaf - who wants that? I can get cheese elsewhere. The time for this spot has passed. It's time to move on. I'm looking forward to the next spot that will replace this one.

A few months ago My husband found a cheese monger in Berkeley that sold his favorite cheese, teleme. We went there to pick up the cheese and noticed they were connected to a vegetarian pizzeria, I saw people sitting outside eating the most wonderful looking pies topped with fresh cheese, figs, arugula and a nice balsamic glaze (from what I glanced) I've been dying to go back and try one of their pizzas so badly! Well the next time we decided to hit em up, wouldn't you know it, the pizzeria was closed due to equipment maintenance BUT they were selling a parbaked pizza from the cheese shop next door. It was marinated artichoke hearts, kalamada olives, a locally made ricotta, mozzarella, a house made tomato sauce and Italian parsley. I'm so happy they didn't just close up shop. It was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try more from their menu and get some more delicious cheese and bread.

Line goes out the door but dies off towards the later afternoon. Don't come too late though or they'll be sold out of more items! I got a sourdough boule for about $6 and it was fantastic. Hearty crust and really flavorful interior that freezes and reheats super well (make sure to slice and freeze your bread sooner rather than later so you're freezing at peak freshness!). I wasn't the biggest fan of the cheese roll here as the cheese is a bit too funky for me, but if you prefer non-mild cheeses, definitely give it a try! I do wish they had pads of butter to go so I could have had some of the sourdough or baguette pieces fresh, but no biggie to wait until you're home.

Their website says the cheese counter is closed. Does anyone know if this is still true as of 09/25/2023?

Yes, they haven't opened the cheese counter for customers who want to taste cheeses and make special requests. However, the line to the cashiers snakes past the cheese counter, where you'll find a pretty good variety of cheeses for grab-and-go.… Read more

Is this a sit down place? Or pick up and find a place to sit outside of the restaurant?

The Cheese Board Collective is a store/counter with a line - sometimes out the door. There are a few tables outside. There is also the Cheese Board Pizza next door which is a restaurant - you order at the counter and then find a table.

Is this the place Michael Pollan talks about?

It is a Berkeley institution, so given that he talks a lot about real food in general, it wouldn't surprise me if he mentioned this place. Either way, it's a wonderful co-op and they make inspiring food (Arizmendi and Sliver are both off-shoots of… Read more

A must for us every single visit is the Honey Glow pineapple -- if you haven't tried one, you're missing out. They are incredibly sweet, almost like biting into pure sugar, but in the most natural and refreshing way. It's the kind of fruit that's hard to find at your average grocery store, and Berkeley Bowl delivers consistently. Beyond the pineapple, the quality across the board is impressive. The blueberries are plump and flavourful, the oranges are bright and juicy, and the wider fruit selection never fails to catch our eye. It's clear that real care goes into sourcing what ends up on those shelves. For anyone living in or passing through the East Bay, Berkeley Bowl is absolutely worth a stop. It's one of those places that makes grocery shopping genuinely enjoyable, and the produce alone is reason enough to visit.

Not as reasonable as they used to be back in the day, but reasonable enough. I love the bulk section of foods. And I love the fact that the organic food is not as expensive as it is in other places, but it has a really good quality. They have a nice selection of foods and you can get a lot of different things. They do have some specialty sections, such as English foods, Italian foods, Mexican foods, Asian foods, etc. I can cook something from another cuisine and often find those ingredients there. I could find lime leaves for a dish that I was making and they only cost $.99. They also have banana leaves that I can buy if I want to use. The meat counter is nice and the people who work there are generally very nice. Another thing I like about the store is that it's nice and clean. The aisles are OK and you can pass by. And when waiting in line for your food if people are shopping, it can get a little crowded, but it's not uncomfortable. The only thing I would tell you not to do here is to return something because they do not want to give you your money back even when you do have a receipt. And when they do give you your money, you get all kind of attitude. I would suggest coming here, which is something that I do when I'm in the area. I usually go to the other Berkeley bowl because it's closer to the freeway and I can drive up quite quickly. But I forgot, this used to be a Safeway, so unlike their original location, which is now a car dealership, and before that was a bowling alley, this space was built for retail of food. I like that I can always find something here when I need to.
