Stopped in based on Yelp's reviews and needed to find a late lunch spot in the area. Someone in the parking lot said "you probably don't want to go here, this is just a bar". We went in anyway. I am in a wheelchair and they had to open a door off the ramp to let me in. Also, there are only high tops so I had to transfer to a stool. I ordered the "house" wings and my wife ordered the burger. The wings were great. Hot and just a little sweet and very messy (I used about 20 napkins). The burger was good and the homemade chips were good but cooked a little too hard. We didn't try the fries. The parking lot guy was right, it is a bar but if you want some really good wings, you should check it out. read more

Out with friends this weekend and one suggested the Centennial to finish watching a game with a beer and a bite. Glad we found this place. My friend described the Centennial as a dive bar. I guess I can see where he is coming from, but I would say more of a neighborhood bar than a true dive (like Dino's or Santa's Pub). First time for me, but the bartender remembered my friends from previous encounters and spent a bit of time getting to know a bit about me, between drink orders, of course. Decent draft beer selection. Not huge, but fairly well curated. Will have to go again to see how often they rotate kegs, but pricing was standard for most bars in Nashville (off the strip, at least). Food is pretty standard pub/bar food, although I did enjoy the Prime Dip and subbed fries instead of house made chips (fries a bit better to dip in jus or mayo). Nothing to write home about, but in the current climate a decent sandwich around the $10-$12 range is a welcome site. I will definitely return when we are over in the Nations area again. Probably on taco Tuesday or burger Thursday. read more

The Centennial has become one of my favorite bars to grab drinks with friends. It's a no frills spot -- very casual and low key, which is a nice reprieve from some of the busier spots in town. I order food every once in a while. I've tried the spicy chicken sandwich, which was spectacular. A true, blackened Cajun-style chicken sandwich is hard to come by in Nashville. It was perfectly seasoned and the spicy mayo tops it off nicely. Most recently, I ordered the cheeseburger, which comes with your choice of cheese, grilled onions, lettuce and tomato. The beef was slightly undercooked for my liking, but I didn't specify how I wanted it cooked so that was on me. I'm not sure what grade of beef they use, but I wasn't crazy about the flavor. The grilled onions were sparse, which was a shame. The bun was terrific, however. The kettle chips and fries are both great accompaniments to the sandwich. If you're in The Nations, I highly recommend paying the Centennial a visit. read more

It's not your average Nashville bar; they go above and beyond for their customers and make an effort to get to know everyone. Maddi and Justin run the front and never skip a beat. Mikey the chef runs a tight kitchen - great food, cooked perfectly, willing to take some custom requests, and checks with the guests to make sure everything is how they like it. I was going to wait until I could grab a bite here before leaving a full review, but I liked this place so much that I decided to 5-star my first visit---what a lovely surprise this place was when I was searching for a quick happy hour treat! Great vibe, friendly staff, and an excellent craft beer selection too(that I hear rotates often!). If I hadn't have been on my way to dinner elsewhere, I'd have scarfed down an order of those tasty looking cauliflower tacos like yesterday. Plenty of parking and seating, very welcoming and funky decor, this bar just hit all the high marks from my divebar-loving self(although honestly, it's not a true divebar---just a lovable retro joint that has that lovable "divey" feel.) Ok, so I may be a bit biased since I'm from a small town in Iowa, but this is the best bar I've found after living in Nashville for a year. Small bar with a big feel! Wood paneling, with old pool hall lights brings you back in time. The bartenders (Sarah, Justin, and Scott) will make you feel right at home. It's a cozy spot to come alone, one other, or many friends, and you always leave with a smile on your face. The food-don't get me started. I hosted my birthday party here and everyone has told me how fun it was, and how great the food is. The chef definitely knows how to cook. My fav is the cauliflower tacos! If you are looking for a neighborhood bar that is low key and chill then the Centennial is a place for you. It is one of those places where you walk in and immediately feel familiar. Soothing light soft music and a staff that is attentive and not aggressive or overbearing meet exactly what you are looking for. It is seldom that you walk into a place and are immediately relaxed after walking through the doors. I have been to the centennial on more than one occasion and have never left their being unhappy with the service that I have received. They have more than an adequate amount of diversity in their beer selection then even the most discerning connoisseur would expect for a neighborhood pub. Their liquor selection is equal to or better than any that you would find here in West Nashville. After moving to the West Side of Nashville from Germantown I can clearly state that the Centennial is the best neighborhood bar in the city if simply for the fact that it offers great food and drink at a great price. read more

Lately we have been on a dive bar kick so we decided to check out The Centennial after our dinner, sine we were in the area. When we pulled up to the bar, three things made me very happy. One, they have an actual parking lot! It's small but we had no problem finding a spot. Two, they had Christmas lights still up outside. Yes, love it. Three, the no smoking sign on the door. I love dive bars, but most of them allow smoking which makes it tough for me to hang out too long. It was so nice to walk inside and be able to breathe! The bar is pretty small but has enough seating. The inside is your typical dive bar scene with a few nice touches. I loved the octopus mural on the wall. Also, the Bill Murray photograph was a nice touch. Really liked the feel of this place. They had plenty of TVs to watch the Predator's game and some dart boards for some more entertainment. The server was really friendly and checked on us regularly. I think they had 2 or 3 people working so there was never a problem getting a drink. I was really surprised by their beer selection. A nice choice of craft beers at a great price. We were there during happy hour so it was $1 off draft beers. We also ordered The Centennial wings which were a nice blend of BBQ and Buffalo wings. The menu had a good selection of food so next time we will have to come hungry! Wish we lived closer so we could come here more often! read more

Heard good things so went after work with my dog hoping to get a cold one and chill on the patio. Nope! No dogs- not even on an outdoor patio. Bartender seemed offended I even asked. ??? So I went down the road to The Nations patio instead, where they gave her a bowl of water, a treat and belly rubs. I'll be back!! I realize this is their prerogative but I live alone and work every day. No way I'm leaving my baby home alone all day and night, so really appreciate The Nations kindness towards dogs. This place isn't as cheap as Yelp says. The cheapest beer here is a $3.50 Coors Banquet and a burger costs $9 w/ chips (add $1 for fries). The Centennial has a great feel and the bartender was excellent at his job. If I was rating on service and ambiance, I'd easily give this place a 5 star review. But the food we had was okay at best. I ordered a burger cooked medium and it came out well done and with little flavor. The tacos were fine. You can get much better food at other places in the area for the same price. Overall, I'd definitely stop in here to have a beer with friends, but not to have dinner. read more

Not sure what the hype is for this place. It's a dive bar with food that is fair to midland at best. The wings were undercooked and just not very good. The fried green beans were the best thing we had but other than that, not really impressed at all. There are far better spots within a 2 mile radius. Came here after reading about their Taco Tuesday special in a local 'Things To Do'-type magazine. It's a little bit out of the way to most of the prime Nashville hotspots, located in 'The Nations' neighborhood, but is a great little neighborhood bar. It has the size of a dive bar, but it seems too nice to refer to it as a 'dive'. Great for sports lovers as they have several TV's around the bar. The level of service was also much higher than at what you'd traditionally think of getting at a dive bar. $2 tacos for whatever is the Taco of the Week and a daily happy hour This week's was a brisket taco topped with coleslaw and it was fantastic. The kind that you want to eat more of (I had 3), but are self-conscious about the prospect of ordering 'another round of tacos'... The chips and queso starter was also tasty. read more

4.5 I really need to spend more time in The Nations. I realize that the west side is the new east side and there's a lot of new biz and new transplant activity over there, but the various neighborhoods/areas (can we get some Nashville borders? The official city limits stop... where? Sylvan Park?) are interesting to explore. I really enjoy discovering new (to me) parts of the metro. That said, I wound up at The Centennial by mistake. I'd heard of it. I'd covered it. But I was in The Nations to meet up with a friend at another location. Since said location deigned to open on a Monday, a quick check of my memory banks* and we wound up at The Centennial. Excellent choice. First of all, they have happy hour from 3-7. Yes, please. I am not drinking much beer these days (sad trombone) but I am all in with liquor. $4 well drinks generously served in a thick glass will always get my attention and appreciation. Secondly, the music is fun. It's cool without trying hard and fits the mood of the bar. And let's talk about the bar: it's a 'clean dive.' Classy. It has the 'everyone's welcome, especially folks from the neighborhood' vibe but it's clean, the people are nice, nothing's sticky, and the owner (Justin) is a really good guy, committed to showing off his place to any and everyone who enters. The decor has a touch of regal beagle-ness (read: retro) but it fits the neighborhood and the building. From what I understand, Justin had to build out most everything except the kitchen but I think he did an awesome job creating an environment suited to all day/all night drinking, talking and having a low-key good time. I mentioned the kitchen. I didn't partake of the cooked goods, but my chips, salsa and queso for $5 was quite nice. The queso comes in a separate tub. It's pretty thick and veers on tasteless but the salsa is where it's at. It's bright, addictive and delicious. If it comes out of a jar, let me know which one so I can buy it. The chips tasted homemade and were pretty tasty of their own as well. I'd like to come back on a weekend afternoon to get an even better feel for the bar but on a Monday late afternoon, I was very happy with my new find. More than just a great neighborhood bar, The Centennial is a great destination bar. Just don't [redacted] it up. *To be honest, I passed it and it came immediately to mind. read more

The centennial definitely lives up to it's reputation for great cocktails. I stopped in after a concert on a weekend . The wait wasn't too bad maybe about 15 minutes. Once we got seated at the bar, we were greeted by our bartender. Neither of us were really feeling for anything on the menu. I was looking more for a classic drinks. I ordered two drinks and both drinks were made incredibly well. I am picky about my drinks and the drinks that I ordered were very well done. I love how they leave finishing components out in front of you as they build your order. Very cool. read more
