One of the best companies I've ever had the pleasure of interacting with! Michael came out and gave me an estimate and made sure to explain everything in detail, so I could relay it to my landlords to have a beautiful new fence installed in my yard! I did have to wait a bit for my estimate, but I guess that's what happens when word of mouth about an awesome company spreads! Have quite a bit to wait until my install, but I've already seen pictures of what to expect! I definitely recommend Cedar Mill to anyone looking for a fence! You may have to wait a bit like I did, but it was definitely worth it!! Agreed to 1" aluminum fence back in March. $10k for the 351' of fence with 3 gates. Put $2k down payment. Install was to be today, May 27th. They told us this week that they didn't have the 1" fence in but they did have the 5/8" fence. They quoted us $9,300 for the 5/8" fence on the same quote where they quoted us $10,000 on the 1" fence. They said they have been out of the 1" fence for over 4 months! All that being said, we said fine, we will do the 5/8" fence for $9,300. "Dave" said the price is now $10,000 for the 5/8" fence. Unacceptable. We got our deposit back and will never do business with such a dishonest and inept company. If you want to screw yourself over, go with The Cedar Mill. The entire process was fantastic, Mike followed up after the quote to see if we had any questions, and worked through the process with us. The installers showed up on time, were extremely professional, their work is beautiful, and they completed the job in one day! Super annoyed. After waiting 5 weeks for an estimate... even the day before the apt they call to confirm leave a voicemail with the name Kristine to confirm 2pm.... day of no one shows. I call the office at 215 Kristine says she didn't make any calls yesterday nor messages. I screen shot both the missed call and voicemail confirming in fact my apt for fence quote at 2pm only to be told " I'm sorry we have no apt" with your name?! What in the world! horrible customer service skills, didn't offer anything to make it right or try to explain the confusion. Very poor representation of the company. Our fence posts were not installed correctly either, which caused them to all rot out. They were just placed shallowly in the dirt with a small amount of gravel on top. We called to get them replaced and were quoted a minimum of $450 for labor alone... The Cedar Mill might have a lower estimate, but you get what you pay for. When we first had the fence installed, it looked nice, so we recommended them to a friend. She said the owner was extremely rude to her and had been drinking when he showed up. read more

We took advantage of the 12-month no interest payment plan and the application process could not have been easier. Our calls and emails were timely returned. Absolute WORST company EVER!!!!! I had Daniel come out and give me a quote on 10/31/16 for a 400'+ fence. We set a date for 12/7/16 and i get a call today from the owner telling me he cant do it for the price i was quoted and i have to pay 800.00 more. I told him to put Daniel on the phone and was told "It doesnt matter what he says, im the owner and the buck stops here" so now that i have already gotten my HOA approval and permit with their name on it im forced to start all over! One star is being kind. Booked them in August, paid 20% down, the day of the install they showed up and decided they could no longer do the job. They said they would stop by to discuss, but they never showed. The next Monday, the did not respond to any emails. Now we are stuck without a fence. The next day I told them I want to hold off getting the work done. They refused to give my deposit back even though they didn't order the materials yet! Met Mike, and unlike the other reviews I thought he was a nice guy. Made some small talk and then showed me some samples. I just purchased a new construction home near a field and wanted to get a fence up for my dog. Mike worked with me on a competitive price and after talking with him I could tell the quality and experience was there. I had a plethora of best practices fence installing knowledge as I originally intended to do it myself, but opted out due to time and help. All of the questions on asked on how he would approach something, was the same I was hoping for and the recommended way. The crew got it all finished in one day, about 365 linear feet, worked 12hrs or so and did a great job. I highly recommend Mike and his company. A few spots that needed some attention but nothing crucial, the staff without hesitation gave me some extra picket boards just to have on hand at no extra costs. After staining the fence, it really makes a difference to my home, and it recently held up well against 65mph winds. read more

Very happy with Cedar Mill and our fence. We worked with Dan who was very professional, responsive and accommodating to our changing requirements. They were also the least expensive of 5 quotes that we received by a significant amount. A couple were almost 60% more expensive! The installation crew was fantastic, they arrived when scheduled,were professional, and our traditional spaced cedar fence looks great. We have gotten compliments on the fence from all of the neighbors. We did have an issue with the installation where they had to come back to lower the fence on one side to meet code and add trim. We clearly communicated the code requirements to Dan, but somehow they were not clearly communicated to the office and installation crew. However, the entire crew came back a few weeks later and spent half a day lowering the fence which must have been a significant unplanned expense for them which they did not charge us for. Overall we are extremely satisfied with our fence & Cedar Mill, and we feel like we got an outstanding deal. read more

I would not suggest this company at all! I sent them my plot survey on July 14th, 2021. As of yet, I have not received a quote. The day after I sent the survery, Mike said he had someone out in the area and would stop by--that never happened. I received a voicemail from him with something with the plot survery but I could not understand his message. I called and one of the women said that it was in zip file and he (Mike) would not know how to open that on his phone. She printed out the information and left it with him. I called them again today and Mike was in the office and she gave him my phone number again so he could contact me. So far, no call yet. I'm sorry, but getting a quote should not be this difficult nor should I have to call and check up on them on when I am going to get it. read more

Worst business experience we ever had!!!! The contract never lists their warranty, so it is only verbal. We hired Cedar Mill to add an additional aluminum fence next to an existing aluminum fence. They erected the fence with a few things left to be done when we realized over half the posts had paint jobs that were defective with grayish brown discolored spots, big blotches and large patches, and every post had numerous nicks, dings, scratches, scrapes, and scuffs which were not from installation. Most of the posts looked like they were dropped or dragged on gravel, and none of the posts were acceptable by any standard as new posts. They either under or over poured the cement (not concrete because they never used aggregate like sand or small stone). The second day after a torrential rain that filled the holes to the top with water, they just shoveled Portland cement and 1+ inch stone into the holes mixing everything with a big rod overflowing everything into the grass. They were a foot off on one side of the fence making the adjacent side angled, and if it wasn't bad enough every post was not acceptable, a ¼ of the fence sections had either bad paint jobs or excessive scratches. They tied into the existing fence voiding the warranty instead of putting up a post next to it, and then they defaced the existing fence by tearing off the stickers of the other company peeling away the paint. They laid the four gaits with plastic on the grass for two days in 90+ degree weather burning out the grass, and the plastic adhered itself to the gaits which requires chemicals to remove the film. They were supposed to remove the dirt and put our handles on the fence which was in the contract, and when my wife talked to Mike, he said they don't remove dirt unless we pay for it and if we put our cheap locks (actually expensive) on their fence that he won't warranty it. I was angry that he got hostile with my wife, and his comment to her was Dan only works here and I am the boss who makes the decisions. We called the salesman Dan out, and he suggested they could paint all the posts which was not acceptable, and when I asked him if he would accept the job at his home, he said he wouldn't. I told the salesman that it looked like they bought the fence and posts from a second hand sale. Dan took photos telling us he would talk to the owner and get back to us with a solution later in the afternoon which never happened, and by the next morning we still heard nothing from the salesman. Since we only had a $200 deposit and the fence was not yet totally finished, we fired The Cedar Mill via e-mail and certified mail requesting they remove their fence, posts, and concrete from our property, and we never heard from them again. We hired the company that did our original fence to do the job for us the correct way. In order for the other company to install the new fence we were forced to take down the Cedar Mill fence, remove 36 posts using an auger down 36 inches below ground then digging them out by hand the rest of the way, and partially remove another 18 posts so these would not interfere with the new fence install. When we removed the posts, we realized that there was something wrong, and we discovered they never used an aggregate with the cement like sand and small stone which is what makes concrete. Most of the posts came out in sections as they broke quite easily as they weren't concrete. One gate post had already started to disintegrate when we were digging it out, and with the poor quality of the poured cement, this fence wouldn't have lasted very long. Since they abandoned their fence forcing us to remove it and the concrete, we were forced to file a lawsuit against them for time and expenses to remove their fence since we never paid them for the fence and it was their fence. If I could give negative stars I would. This company, and it's representatives are the absolute worst. The guy who came to offer an estimate was dressed like a punk and did not have anything indicating that he was with Cedar Mill. The receptionist at the office was put out when calling to tell her she drew the scale drawing on Plat of Survey wrong, and too had attitude when asking to correct it. We discussed cost and I asked if there was a cash discount as we were going to pay cash. They knocked a whopping $200 off. Later, we attempted to negotiate, asking if they'd consider throwing the stain in on the fencing opposed to the $200 off for cash, and he got testy with me. He then stated he needed to ask his "boss". Later that day I received a call from his father "the boss", who carried on for 40 mins about the so called quality of their fencing, the low cost they already offered and so on. They did not budge on the cost, which is fine, it was worth the inquiry. When I was about to contract with them, I saw TWO coupons in the paper, one for 1/2 off stain and the other for $400 off the cost of fencing. Again, I made the inquiry, via text, with the young punk who initially provided the proposed amount. His response was (verbatim): Nope, nice try, the price is already set at wholesale, if you want to jew down on the price some more, I'll pull the job, refund your money, and you can go with someone else....Makes no difference to me. I was literally appalled at this response, at CEDAR MILLS response. As a consumer, there is nothing wrong with trying to get the best price, and when there's coupons in a local paper, promoting discounts, why wouldn't I (or anyone inquire). Apparantly, CEDAR MILL does NOT honor their coupons, they're rude as can be to potential customers and don't care about their business. In speaking with many other fencing companies, they all have given Cedar Mill a bad rap and could not say anything nice about them. That in itself should say something. Obviously, we did not use them (THANK GOD) to install our fence. And I strongly urge everyone reading this to go elsewhere....there are many many other fence companies out there, all of which are reputable, professional, and customer friendly. Did a decent job but left out what should have been a partial picket which left a huge gap between the gate and the beginning of the pickets. They got paid so they wouldn't return multiple calls to try to get them to finish the job. Had to hear over and over again about people taking advantage of old people as it was my mother who had the fence put in. Tried to keep it Local but I wouldn't recommend this company. read more

We had our fence installed 7 years ago and the fence posts were not properly installed. You don't find out this kind if thing until after several winters and realize that the posts are slowly being pushed out of the ground by the freezing and thawing. We now have a foot gap under our fence and our gate will not close in the winter months. I called and was told since it's been 7 years it's not covered under warranty. I asked, "You don't cover improper installation?" She replied, "No, since it's been seven years." Buyer beware. read more

Let me start by saying that I was not a fan of this owner from the minute he opened his mouth. I don't believe in bad talking a competitor to make your company seem better; and that is exactly the approach he took. However, he sold my neighbor and husband on his product being better quality. So we bought his fence. The two guys that installed our fence obviously didn't get any direction from the owner because they put gates where there shouldn't have been gates and where we wanted a gate, we didn't get one. We had to call multiple times during the install to inform the office of the mistakes. Calling the office only got us to a cranky woman that basically told us "oh well!" When my husband bought the fence (from the owner), we made sure that he knew that we had small dogs and needed the fence to be secure for them. Here we are two weeks post install, the gates are finally in place where they should be, but the small dogs get out every time because we have 4-6" gaps in multiple places. It is apparent that the owner didn't listen to a word my husband said when he gave him the specifications at contract signing. He (the owner) did what he wanted and didn't care what we (the ones paying) wanted. Horrible experience. Don't use them. Use Cedar Rustic. Wish we would have! read more

We paid them to put up a fence had the date locked over a month in advance get a call the day of saying their "truck broke down" they can't show & then was promised that Saturday they would install our fence! Of course the morning of I CALLED to find out they weren't showing up again literally played phone tag with Mike all day waste of my time & effort! Mike was told multiple times how important it was that we have our fence installed before landscaping could take place & now our landscaping was held off another week & half & our dog still doesn't have a fenced in yard for another month because all the companies I wish I would of hired in the first place are busy! This company is awful to work with. They will tell you whatever they think you want to hear to get your money, after that they have no interest in standing by their product or workmanship. I have had my fence a few months and they are avoiding my calls to repair the hardware a broken latch. We got a black aluminum fence. The first week we had the fence a bunch of screws were hanging out of it, now the screws that hold the latch on are totally stripped. I scheduled them to inspect it and they never showed up, I called and they said they had to look into it and call me back, 4 days later no call back, I called a second time they told me the same thing, still no call back. I Called 8 different fence company only got 3 calls back and the first one to me back was the cedar mill. We were looking for vinyl and the other 2 willing to sell us. Mike from cedar mill was the most honest about selling us a fence and really explain to us that vinyl was not as maintenance free as I research . We ended up going with a cedar fence. Mike made sure we got what we wanted in the style of picket and post. The installation team was great too.. they did a wonderful clean up the old fence we had and took so much pride in there job. My Coal City home was hit by an EF4 Tornado June 2015...this is a delayed review: I received not one, but two written estimates: I was told the higher estimate (significantly higher) was for the insurance company; the 2nd and much lower estimate was 'the real' estimate....The Cedar Mill was one of three estimates I received, and the proposals were far greater than those of the other two companies. Further, I was installing a custom cedar fence, the proposal was for pre-stained fencing.....one does not pre-stain a natural cedar wood fence....professionals advise to let it naturally age through a winter season, and then proceed with staining. I did not select The Cedar Mill, nor would I recommend anyone utilize this company. read more

Set an appt over a week ago for 5:30. Girl called the evening before and confirmed for the appt. Did ask how many other quotes we are getting and we advised. Then day of Mike left a message on my husbands phone 30 mins before he was to arrive that he would be an hour late. That was fine with us, so we called back for him to still come out. After making sound like an inconvenience to come he then started questioning who else we have gotten quotes from and started bad mouthing a competitor. Basically wanted us to agree to use them before them coming out to give a quote. WOW guess they didn't want over a 6k job. read more

So first I want to say that our fence looks great and that I was pleased with the three gentlemen who came out and installed it. They asked several times for clarification on specifics, which I appreciated. We had about 200 linear feet installed and these guys were able to do that under four hours. The reason I give this company one star, and why I removed their sign from my fence and will not recommend them to others, is because of their owner, Mike. My wife first met Mike and he gave her a fair estimate. After that meeting, we changed our mind on the layout of the fence, and asked if he would come back for a new estimate. The new estimate was not as low as we thought it should have been (compared to the original) but still comparable to other quotes. As he was drawing the design, Mike asked us what we did for a living. In a very in-direct route, he started discussing his views on some controversial topics (police shootings of minorities, President Obama, etc.). My wife and I attempted several times to redirect the conversation back to an estimate, however Mike continued to discuss this. It became uncomfortable and I began to think we shouldn't do business with this guy. Multiple times he used terms like "blacks", "retards", and "racism doesn't exist anymore". Again, none of this has anything to do with his company being able to install a fence on my property. I regret doing business with them on a moral level, and as long as Mike is associated with this company I would not endorse them and will hire someone else when it is time to fence the rest of our property. P.S., you will know Mike owns the company as he will tell you about it 15 times in a span of 10 minutes. read more

He explained that since he owns the company he doesn't care if he sells to me! He then went on a rant about how a former employee that was injured on the job was an ass for getting hurt. The front end of the process went smoothly. Once we agreed to the contract things went down hill.. The fence was installed and upon review had a couple boards with holes. Choose the prestain option which didn't cover all boards and looks inconsistent. The workers should of taken 2 days to install as the work got worse as they went. No follow up from the salesperson (Ashley) on how the install was or anything. It was a money grab and go. After spending $10k plus some kind of call should have been made, but was just bad overall business regardless of the amount of the job. We have now found out they hit our electrical line in the yard which will have to be repaired and assume no responsibility. Bad overall company and experience.
