Their menu is good, they serve good coffee and have homemade cakes, and paninis etc and prices are average for this kind of cafe (approx £5 for a panini). The seating is comfortable enough and they do have a couple of leather sofas which are great if you are having a coffee and meeting friends. In the summer they do have some tables outside which is lovely if the sun is shining. The downside is that the serving area looks a bit grubby and dirty and some of the staff look the same! I was very disappointed last time I went in here. I wanted to get take away as I was on my lunch break. I waited over 5 minutes while 2 members of staff were making coffee for previous orders and clearing tables. I had no problem waiting but I did get very frustrated when the ladies were chatting rather than serving customers. After waiting a few more minutes and being ignored I left and went to 'This Cafe' instead where the service and food was fantastic. I don't think I will be in a hurry to visit Cafe Rio anytime soon. They have a great menu and if you can't see what you fancy, just ask the staff and they will do their best to make you what you want. The coffee they serve is excellent and they have a good choice of soft drinks, juices etc. The staff are really friendly and helpful and always make you feel welcome (unlike some other coffee shops in the town). They have a good take-away menu too and all the food is cooked fresh. Even though all the food is organic, the prices are very good and competitive with other cafes in this area. I really hope that This Cafe is successful - it is really good to see independant businesses opening in the town and I wish them every luck!

But for us consumers, it's yet another place to use a toilet on Castle Street (don't laugh - it used to be a real problem!) and also it's another place to get coffee on a Sunday, which is important now that there are a lot more shops open on Sunday. So it's all good. Costa is my third favourite of coffee chains in the UK (the first two being AMT, which is only in train stations as far as I know, and Cafe Nero). They have made a good job of doing up the place; I had a decaff latte with my Sunday paper there today and it was quite crowded but still quite pleasant.
