They have a spacious one floor operation (i.e., their lounge is on the main floor) and a relatively modernized, cozy, and comfortable interior. There is one funeral parlor room and it was spacious with comfortable seating. The burial for our Chinese family friend was held at the usual Mount Auburn cemetery in Stickney. They have a decent size parking lot, but if it is filled, they (or the enforcers I'm told) allow you to park in the street for free as long as you have an orange funeral sticker applied. This area is set up with the usual metered street parking otherwise. Another nice touch for those attending the burial service is that while the service is going on, they remove the orange stickers off your car for you, and I appreciated that because they applied 4 of them on my car. I also spoke to the current director Michael Coletta (and there are probably several generations of them), and who was a personable fellow, and when asked he told me they do about 25-30% Chinese business. Anyway, I found them to be a good competitor to the better known Dalcamo Funeral Home in the area, and competition is a good thing for us consumers.

Pros: - Location…read moreproximity to the city - Good size parking lot - Immediate scheduling availability for an unexpected death - Nice room ambiance with privacy -TV provided for photo slideshow Cons: - No speaker system, not even a basic one. That means if you have more than 30 people and need to stand more than 20 feet away from the speaker, you won't be able to hear anything. - Visitation hours were set for 3pm to 8pm. However, the night of, the staff said the food area downstairs is closing at 7pm and no food is allowed upstairs. We were so confused and scrambled to put the food away while there was another hour of visitation left. Many helpers went without refreshments because of that. What? - The morning of the service, we set out the refreshments again since we had so much left over. Without communicating to us, they packed everything up and said we were not allowed to use that area anymore. - Our sister was 42. She didn't have white hair when we said goodbye to her on Monday. When we saw her at the funeral home on Friday (four days later), her hair had prominent white patches, making her look much older than she was. We asked the staff if they could please help turn the hair black (use mascara? dye? paint?) and he ARGUED with us, saying it is what it is. At the end, he said he'll see what he could do and it only improved minimally. - White gloves were NOT provided for pallbearers. They also had to actually lift the 400lb+ casket down a few steps. - The person leading the pallbearers down the hallway at the cemetery was practically speed-walking. The pallbearers were told to "keep up." What the heck? - At the cemetery, we wanted to spend a few minutes saying goodbye to our sister but we were told to quickly walk by the coffin and exit to our cars. Our entire group had less than five minutes inside the cemetery. We didn't get to put flowers on her coffin let alone spending a private moment with her. Conclusion: We felt rushed every step of the way. The general impression we had was that the staffs at Dalcamo wanted to get the job over with. If you can't empathize with our grief, maybe don't work in this industry anymore. One of the staff was wearing a pretty orange-peach top like it's just another day at the office. Complete disrespect and disastrous communication, ruining all the most important moments for us. Plus it was the most expensive place that nickeled and dined us. Will not work with them again.

Pomierski's is stunning, a jewel carefully crafted of stained glass and wood. I just happened to stumble upon Pomierski & Son Funeral Home while delivering funeral flowers for a very old friend of mine, whose brother had passed away. I was greeted by Felice, one of the owners that helped me with the flowers I had brought for the wake. She was a lovely, kind and a very professional business lady. Immediately, I felt welcomed by one of the owners, even though I was only a vendor coming in the rear entrance with a floral delivery. If someone is this kind at the back flower delivery door, just imagine how empathetic and wonderful they must be to deal with if you are a bereaved family member. I can just tell, this place treats its customers very well and regards them highly. So, after delivering the flowers through the back... I went in the front door to pay my respects to the family of their deceased brother. After speaking with family members, I became so overwhelmed at the true beauty of the interior of this funeral parlor. My eyes were taking in all the glorious, well preserved woodwork, stained glass, sculptured plaster treatments dating back to before the 1920's. I was just amazed at the mint condition and the care that this funeral home has taken to keep all this fine craftsmanship of skilled artisans, whose trades have probably long disappeared, in such an extraordinarily flawless manner. I was struck with awe. I can't imagine a soul, not appreciating the architectural majesty that this unsuspecting funeral home has preserved for all of us to behold to this very day. Anyone with the least bit of respect for the past, surely would appreciate such a treasure as not to disrespect its place in time and history. I must compliment this funeral home for holding onto such a gem without giving sway to the many trends and fads of past decades. The calls to remodel and modernize over the years, must have been plentiful. For in such logic, all of this fine quality workmanship, in impeccable condition would have been destroyed forever. Thank you!... Pomierski Family for preserving history. Felice was so nice to talk with me further, at length, inside and point out the hand carved angels that are part of this unique interior. The angels are her favorite touch, I can tell. I would have taken pictures but with a wake in progress, I could not have done so. I will be back.... to visit and take a few photographs of this remarkable and very functioning funeral home in the heart of Bridgeport. What a breathtaking find! If you're gonna go anytime soon, check out this funeral home and go out in style! Pomierski & Son Funeral Home is a fabulous funeral home to behold.

Which has significantly compounded my family's grief during an already profound difficult period . The incident occurred when I attempted to obtain essential documentation pertaining to my parents funeral services.. as I lost both parents some time ago leaving a state of emotional vulnerability. My request was straightforward and I believe entirely reasonable. I sought to obtain copies of the Funeral service for both my mother and father. These documents are for my personal records and reference.. from a common and expected request from a greving next of kin. However my experience with Delphine was deeply upsetting. Unacceptable.. when I presented my request she unequivocally refused, asserted that I had not paid personally paid for a funeral services. Incorrectly claim that my Sister covered the expenses for my father's funeral. I must clarify that assertion is entirely false the cost of my father service directly through his estate. Beyond a factual inaccuracy Dalphine demeanor, was dismissive, unprofessional, and frankly rude to my establishment and dismay during our conversation. I believe I inherited the right to access these Vital records. Dolphine conduct was not only merely unhelpful insensitive and a complete dereliction of the compassionate support that Grieving families rightfully expect from a Funeral service provider. Her enormous claims and hostile attitude served only to escalate my distress and add to immense pain. I am already experiencing.. the core expectation from any establishment assisting families during difficult times of their loss is offering understanding, empathy and respectful service. Instead, I encounter such a profound lack of respect and professionalism is my view inexcusable for a funeral service.

The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Before his passing, we had an initial visit with Michael regarding plot selection and he was helpful with helping us pick the location that best met our needs. No pressure, just a friendly visit and discussion. After he passed, we then worked with Sherry and Arlene to purchase the plot, casket, vault, shroud, death certificates, etc. The cost was substantial, but I imagine it is likely in line with other Jewish cemeteries in the area. Included in the cost is perpetual care of the grounds so there are no additional fees down the road. The chapel for his service was very nice and all of the people working there that day were super friendly. They live streamed his service which many in my family used. They also provided the ability to download the service which I decided to do. Shalom Memorial received the death certificates a few days afterwards from the village and we picked them right away so we could begin sending them to those who needed them. I really can't think of anything that I didn't like or was disappointed in.
