The staff at the Carnarvon Arms were friendly and polite but very lacking in basic food serving skills.
The menu was extensive but overpriced, the starters and desserts were very nice, decent portion sizes and great presentation. The majority of the party had sunday lunch for main course, and while there was plenty of food, the meat was the equivilent of a Bernard Matthews roll, not actual meat carved from the bone, so this made it very overpriced for what it was.
The sunday lunch option wasn't available on the childrens menu, but was when we asked for it, again it was a large-ish portion size, but came with 3 sorts of potato but no vegetables, and the server looked at me as though I had 3 heads when I asked if there should be some vegetables with it, she did bring a dish of veg out then though.
When the food was served the staff were handing plates of food to us, rather than placing it on the table, and a hot dish was placed on the table in front of a baby in a high chair.
The restaurant itself was bright and airy, with a good layout and easy to access parking. The staff were very accomodating when we paid as we paid partly in cash and partly on 3 debit cards (yes, we are awkward!). read more
