By the time I arrived, my mother was cleaned, her hair was brushed, chapstick was put on her dry lips, and she was changed into fresh, clean clothing. When I walked into her room, she was resting and looked very comfortable and cozy in the bed. She looked more at peace than she had for many months prior. It was such a relief to know she was there and resting peacefully. When I arrived, I was greeted at the front desk and brought on a tour of the home. There was a beautiful kitchen where visitors could make a meal or eat if they chose to have food delivered. Coffee, tea, and a water cooler were provided, as was fresh fruit. There were rooms where visitors could take a break and unwind if needed. The room where my mother stayed was very clean, bright, and just lovely. It felt like a very welcoming home. There was everything you needed, and it overlooked a beautiful yard with gardens, benches, and bird feeders. The only thing better than the home was the staff. Everyone was so welcoming and kind. They were all very compassionate, caring, and supportive. From the very start, they took exceptional care of my mother, checking on her often, but not in an intrusive way. They asked for detailed information about my mother and her family -- and really listened -- so they could relate/connect with her while she was in their care. They explained the way things worked and made sure to answer any questions we had. When my mother passed, the nurse and aides were very compassionate, understanding and empathetic. St. Luke's Hospice House makes what is a very sad situation much easier to get through. And, for that, I will be forever thankful.

I, like many others I know, am switching over to Penn medicine. They just acquired Doylestown Hospital. It is a bit farther of a drive, but well worth it at this point. Saint Luke's access times (wait times for an appointment) are crazy at this point. They have gone completely down hill over the past year and a half. I have dragged my elderly mother to appointments, only to be turned away because they didn't make the appointment correctly and didn't even bother to call me when they saw the appointment was incorrectly scheduled. Only response was "Sorry that happened." Unfortunately, at this point the trip to Doylestown is well worth the effort.

Communication with the staff and management is so poor that haphazard is a generous description. The facility is shabby and the rooms run down. The residents are all warehoused daily in a common space with a TV. They are largely unresponsive. Staff hand washing is suspect...our resident got c-diff and had to be rushed to the hospital. Requests for diagnostic tests were not relayed, not performed, and/or the results not communicated. The office staff was always disorganized and harried. Our patient was not prepared for doctor visits, despite the staff assuring us they would be. Don't place your loved one here.

Physically, the facility is beautiful, clean, and roomy. There are outside patios, bird feeders, nice views from patients' The food is delicious. It is quiet, and quite homey. The staff and volunteers have been wonderful, professional, helpful, and eager to get the patient exactly what she needs 24/7 In particular we have been impressed with my sisters nurse, Susan, who is the consummate professional. She is compassionate and one of those rare professionals who is a good listener. "Being heard" is the greatest gift one can give to a hospice patient. I don't know all the names of other staff, but everyone I have met has been compassionate, helpful, patient, and kind. If you or a loved one seek Hospice Care, Chandler Hall is first rate. My sister loves and trusts her physician.

When a family is faced with end of life issues for a family member there are a few choices but not many people to talk to about it. To be fair i first became aware of Taylor Hospice when i sought bereavement counseling after my husband passed in Crozer hospital. I came here weekly for 2 months, 7 years ago for this support group that met here in their first floor great room fully aware of what was going on in the 4 guest rooms( my term) upstairs. ---Namely the art of dying with dignity. At that time I was impressed by the facility, grounds, staff and decided at the time when the need arises I would like a facility such as this. There are plenty of hospices around, most in hospitals and this is not to be confused with Taylor Hospital's Hospice which is a much higher bedded facility in the hospital. Taylor Hospice is a separate facility thar shares the side parking lot with the hospital but is its own unique facility with only 4 rooms. Its located in an old mansion-like home on a several acre wooded property teaming with bird and small wildlife in Delaware County. Who would ever know about this place? This is truly a unique hospice facility in the Delaware Valley. There are beautiful areas outside to regroup and perhaps gain composure before and after visits. Inside it feels as if you are in a home. It's pleasantly decorated, comfy and the compassionate, loving staff is nothing short of spectacular. When not upstairs with the guest you can regroup downstairs in the sunroom or the great room. VISITS: unlimited at all hours, 24/7. I am here daily now this second week of August 2014 to partake in the road home of a very dear friend. I was "adopted" into her family 14 years ago at 42 so i am not biological family but it doesn't matter as I am welcomed by the staff and treated as well as family. Today Barbara took the time to properly explain the dying process and then gave me a pamphlet to take home. She took the time to tell me what she already learned about my friend and asked me to share with her things about my friend. I know this is what they do as they interact in a dignified way with the person who is dying. The people who work here are kind and loving and as previously stated-spectacular. Should the need arise i will choose Taylor Hospice for family or for my own journey home to God.

No support for the family at all - not even at the very end! They DO NOT COME OUT EVERY DAY (not even when they KNOW the person is transitioning or actively passing). The communication to the family & within their own organization is the worst! The day my father was passing I called the main office in Newton, NJ for help, they put me through to the nurse's voice mail! The nurse responded to me hours later via text. I told her I needed help & she responded that she would have the on call nurse call me. I NEVER GOT A CALL!!!!! Whenever you call them they ask you a mirage of questions & they are NOT very pleasant! When my dad passed & the hospice nurse came, she wanted to remove my father's lung drains as I was laying over his body crying! I told her to get away, that she WASN'T going to touch him! The entire family was there grieving & she wanted to disturb his body while he was still warm! My father's nurse's NEVER even called us to express their condolences! Oh and DO NOT DONATE ANY SUPPLIES to them! The nurses told me that donated supplies to their agency are LOCKED in a closet at the office & they can't access them for their patients! I later learned that the supplies I was purchasing SHOULD have been provided by hospice! The family provided better care than this agency! This agency doesn't even deserve 1 star!
