We went on a whim for happy hour. The quality we've had during regular hours was always excellent and we wondered what a smaller, less expensive menu would bring. It was all we wanted and more. The sliced strip steak was perfectly done on a chimichurri base. The small lamb chops were also perfect. Other dishes were equally outstanding. After we paid and called for the car to be brought (handy valet parking!), my wife was complimenting the server for her great work. My wife for mentioned it was my birthday and the service made it special. Little did we know. The server said "wait here", disappeared for a couple of minutes, and returned with two small desserts. They were on a happy birthday plate. Gratis! We will return with friends! read more

We came here for a late dinner on a Saturday evening and got seated without much issue - we were probably some of the last people to enter given it was closing soon. Ambiance was higher end with dim lighting and well-dressed service as like most other Capital Grille locations. Service was solid - attentive and polite. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was solid in taste. Portions were small given the price point, but it's a steak house so that's not surprising. Overall, we had a nice meal and it's glad to know the Capital Grille in Hartford is professional and solid! read more

The sliced strip steak served over chimichurri was cooked perfectly, and the lamb chops were just as exceptional. Every dish we tried was outstanding. What truly made the evening memorable was the service. After we had paid and called for our car (the valet parking is a great convenience), my wife mentioned to our server that it was my birthday and complimented her on the wonderful service. To our surprise, she returned a few minutes later with two complimentary desserts beautifully presented on a "Happy Birthday" plate. Such a thoughtful gesture made an already fantastic experience even more special. read more

My fiancé celebrated my birthday at my favorite resturant. We had Kevin as our premier waiter tonight and he didn't disappoint. He was very attentive to our needs. Michael had their bone-in Riley steak and I had two crab and lobster cakes and our sides were Sam's mash potatoes and sautéed spinach with garlic. The food was delicious as always. The ambiance was exceptional as always. I recommend The Capital Grille 10 out of 10. If you want a one on ofa kind experience don't sleep on The Capital Grille. After a poor experience at The Capital Grille on Christmas Eve, we decided to give it another try for Easter brunch. This went considerably better and our server, Kevin, was excellent and attentive without being annoying. He received a generous tip. The presentation of the food from the seared tuna to the filet mignon and lobster frittata were all excellent and well worth the trip. Our salads were uniformly, fresh and delicious! To finish the brunch, we shared a piece of The Capital Grille's world famous coconut cream pie, which was on point and fantastic. read more

What a night we had sitting at the bar. Service was over the top. Bartender was sharp, witty and also great at making suggestions. Had the jumbo lump crab cocktail. Comes with house made cocktail sauce with fresh shaved horseradish on top to mix in and then a spicy mustard sauce as well. I just love the crab meat with no sauce. Such a delightful flavor. Next had a soup and salad deal with New England clam chowder along with a Ceasar salad. Very large portions on the soup and salad. Should have just ordered one because they were both so large. Loved the clam chowder, had to add some Tabasco sauce to spice things up but so tasty. Wanted more when that one was finished. Ceasar salad was nice crisp romaine lettuce shoots with a great balance of house made dressing. Lots of shaved Parmesan cheese. And if you want a drink, try their house made Doli!!!! Amazing flavor. read more

First time at capital Grille in Hartford. I've been to locations all over the place and they never disappoint. Service is spot on -- steaks are delicious always paired with heavy pour cocktails. Ambiance is standard capital grille fare. A reliable place to take clients who like meat to dinner. read more

Overall: The ambiance and food here is great as usual. Service is fantastic, a really good spot to go if you're trying to plan something nice. Food: Capital Grille has a wide variety of flavors to cater to each craving. Something that stood out to me in particular was the mash potatoes. A creamy and subtle texture difference throughout was fantastic. Service: The service here is standard, a bit longer than the average restaurant, but I'm willing to take that given the care they put into the dishes. Ambiance: This is a nicer sit down place. Lots of seating inside for both small and large parties. read more

Ambiance is always lovely and the service was great. Shrimp cocktail was good. Fresh and crispy. We all ordered steaks Boneless ribeye. Cooked to order 2 filets on cooked to order One overcooked 2 Aged NY strip Au Poive. One cooked to order. One overcooked. Shame because they were decent cuts of meat. For sides we got: Mushrooms. Very dried out and overcooked Brussels sprouts. They were overcooked Mashed potatoes were soupy Asparagus were tough Lobster Mac n cheese came out good Dessert was coconut cream pie and the cheesecake. Both were good. Not so impressed with our Mother's Day meal unfortunately. Been going here for years and it's typically very good. Maybe the holiday was a bit much for the kitchen. We were the last service of the day and I guess we hit the dregs of the sides. read more

This is my third time coming to capital grille and I have heard great things and everyone loves coming here . And even the UCONN huskies have a tradition to dine here as well ! The ambiance is pleasant and quiet, dim romantic lighting perfect for a date night . And the staff is amazing every time, they are always very attentive and pleasant . However every time I have came I've never been blown away or excited by the food . The house bread they offer a few different options which is nice but they don't taste fresh and is served with just basic butter. The house salad is okay, ingredients were fresh however it was served with Parmesan vinaigrette but I couldn't really taste the parmesan . For the entree, I got the filet mignon with a side of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The mashed potatoes were absolutely amazing ... LoVEd the soft creamy potatos ( my favourite ) , however the creamed spinach was terrible ( definitely would not recommend) The filet ( I prefer my steak more cooked) so I asked for medium however it was served rare ( basically raw ) .. and when they tried to fix it. .. it was still under cooked medium rare at best .. so that was a little upsetting . But if you like to ur steak rare or medium rare this is the place for you :) I also got the try the chicken risotto entree and that was amazing the risotto was cooked perfectly and so flavourful , the chicken was moist flavourful as well . So I will definitely get the chicken next time :) For dessert the flourless chocolate cake is very rich and delicious . My favourite part of the dinner read more

I had a late lunch/early dinner at Capital Grille with my executive assistants on a chilly February evening. We were able to valet with no qualms and got seated right away. We've been to Capital Grille several times but it was usually for an event, and not a regular dinner. This was during my Daniel fast so I was very limited on what I could eat. The waitress was able to talk to the chef and they made me a vegan inspired medley. There was tofu, veggies and brown rice. Not only was an exception made for me, but it also tasted really good. My assistants got oysters as starters and burgers as their entrees. The food, service and ambiance were all on par and this location tends to cater a lot of professionals. read more

I haven't been to this location in years! And it was still the great establishment that I remember. Paul and Jose were absolutely wonderful, so friendly, kind and professional, excellent service. This location is one of the bigger ones I've been to and it was beautiful. The food was great. I came with a large group and we all ordered apps, entrees and the dessert was on the house! We had shrimp cocktail, French onion soup, crab cakes and crab lump cocktail for starters. For entree, we did the lamb chops, Chilean sea bass, salmon, and scallops with lobster risotto. For sides we shared the creamed spinach, au gratin potatoes and mashed potatoes. Everything was exceptional and my overall experience was a 10/10! read more

I ordered a few appetizers and salads to go from The Capital Grille and overall the food was pretty tasty. The salads were especially delicious--fresh, well dressed, and definitely the highlight of the order. I also tried the lobster and crab cake, which was flavorful and well prepared, though it is definitely on the higher end price-wise. Overall, the quality was good and it's a solid option if you're looking for something upscale. read more

We came here for lunch today. The food was good, our server was charming, but one thing left me perplexed: they brought a basket of bread to our table, and a plate with a large square of butter. The butter was hard as a rock, and we were not given bread plates. I ended up using the saucer from my cup of soup (really tasty butternut squash bisque) as a place to place my bread, a portion of butter, and my knife. read more

So first, let me just say our waitress anastina was amazing. She started our dinner off with a cute presentation of dirty martinis which were so yum! Now let's discuss the actual restaurant. We sat in the bar area which had an ok ambiance, I felt the music was lower than the dinning area which for a bar space was strange. We had a mix of shared plates including the lobster Mac and cheese the mash and the creamy spinach. Mac and cheese was decent I did like the small crunch of crumbs on it; however everything else was OK. We also had a field green salad... very basic; felt like a bag salad with some basic dressing, light but not what I expected from a well known high valued restaurant. We also ordered steaks and the sea bass, again ..just good. I personally didn't try the steak but my family said they enjoyed it. My sea bass was clearly fresh but some of the asparagus pieces were over cooked and it was supposed to be paired with shiitake mushrooms but there was only one on the plate which I thought was odd. I was surprised that the entrees were placed on our table before the "sharable dishes" too. When it comes to a pricier restaurant I really do notice details and feel like my dining experience should be above average in comparison to others. Unfortunately I just didn't have an amazing experience nor did the food justify the prices. Sad because I really have heard so much about capital grille for such a long time and I had high hopes! read more

I chose the seared salmon over couscous and asparagus which was perfectly delicious. The steak offering looked equally enticing Visited in connection with a professional society event and the setting and service could not have been better. Completely lived up to its reputation. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 A great experience celebrating my Mom's birthday at The Capital Grille in Hartford. Jordan is a great server, friendly and knowledgeable. High ceilings and nice decor. Enough space so that you don't feel crowded. Our party of five sat in the circular booth which was nice. Shellfish and steak were great. I felt like the bone in ribeye here is slightly bigger than the ones I got in NYC at Club A and Smith and Wollensky. Parmesan truffle fries were very nicely done. Lobster bisque soup special was very rich. They also had a lobster tail special from South Africa that my Dad said was good. read more

Ohh our first Capital Grille experience was nothing short of amazing. The food was delightful and solid. The steak was perfect. The only critiques IMO: the calamari could've used some sort of dipping sauce and the lobster tail seemed slightly overcooked but still tasty. It is quite pricey as well. But the cocktails were fabulous! Very balanced or spirit forward just how I like them. Where the 5 star experience stands out is the service and atmosphere m. This place is huge and therefore tables are well spaced. Our server, Jordan, made this birthday experience for my husband such a fun and memorable night. His banter was hilarious BUT our favorite moment was when he asked everyone at our table to name one thing they liked about my husband before treating us to a champagne toast and what an honor it was to hear why he is so loved! Never has a restaurant taken the time to remind us why we are all together! TY Jordan we look forward to coming back. read more

This has always been one of my favorite restaurants, which made yesterday's experience even more disappointing. I took my sister there to celebrate Mother's Day and Nurse Week, and unfortunately the food was not good at all. Everything we ordered was extremely bland and lacked flavor. We barely ate any of it and ended up taking about 75% of the food home untouched because it just was not enjoyable. I do want to say that our waitress was very kind, attentive, and provided great service throughout the visit. Because I've always enjoyed this restaurant in the past, I'm hoping this was just an off day. read more

Other than the staff providing a dessert to recognize a special occasion, I have basically nothing positive to say about our experience. And this is our third less than positive experience here. The beets in the beet salad were sparse but also spongy and tasteless. And covered up by so much arugula that wasn't even mentioned on the menu that they almost couldn't be found. The scallops in the entree were thin and not substantial at all-so disappointing especially in light of the cost of the dish. The asparagus risotto in that dish was also disappointing as it was undercooked, soupy and included so many other ingredients it was distracting. The people in the booth behind us were so loud we couldn't hear each other speak. And multiple staff members were engaging with this table and making it worse for the entire time. I don't know why there is even a dress code statement on the website as we witnessed so many complete and accepted violations of it. If you're looking for an elevated experience that even comes close to being worth the expense, this is NOT it. read more

Ordered the small filet with bearnaise sauce. Medium rare was closer to medium. And I've cooked steaks myself that were more tender. The house made bearnaise was suspiciously yellow. I thought there might have been cheese in it. Bread service was very good, mushrooms were perfect and the wait staff was as outstanding as you would expect. Maybe they're really not a steak house? read more

Honestly, I wasn't very impressed with this restaurant. I had heard great things, but it didn't live up to them. For starters the bread and butter was good. My drink was also good. I couldn't taste any alcohol; I'm not sure if that was a good or bad thing. For my entrée, I got a New York strip with blue cheese butter, creamed spinach, and mashed potatoes. The sides were great. My steak was overcooked making it very hard to chew. My friends enjoyed their meals. One had a T-bone steak and the other a filet mignon. I also enjoyed the dessert, but it was just regular. In conclusion I won't be knocking anyone down to get back to this restaurant. P.S. The valet sucked. It was raining cats and dogs. They went to get our car and came back to the door, not opening any car doors for us. read more

Terrific service, delicious lollipop lamb, filet mignon, and the dining room had a nice vibe with soft lighting.

I came here for a birthday dinner. The service was amazing! I got the lobster and crab cake and the calamari for apps. The calamari was huge! The lobster and crab cake was okay. I didn't love the basil aioli on it. I got the lobster mac and cheese and some fries for dinner and they were good! There was lots of lobster in the mac n cheese. I would come back here again and get the french onion soup (which is huge and looked amazing), a salad and split a burger and fries. read more

Wow! One of the best meals we've had. Ever. From the bread and salted butter to the lobster bisque to the filet mignon and velvety smooth mashed potatoes, everything was amazing. Oh and the drinks! Sidecar especially. So good. The calamari was lacking a dipping sauce - whether marinara or aioli, but everything else was absolutely incredible. Our waitress, Chelsea, was so nice and super accommodating. We told her it was our first time there and she went above and behind to make it a memorable experience. The restaurant was very cozy inside. They sat us next to the kitchen where there was a huge window where you could see right into the kitchen. It was like watching a theatrical production, perfectly orchestrated. What a crew they have working there! Highly recommend! read more

We had dinner on Tuesday, 8/18. The drinks and salad were very good. We ordered Scallops with Lobster Risotto. This dish was excellent. We also had an order of Salmon. A small piece of salmon was served with a few green beans. The salmon very dry and over cooked. The waiter took it back and returned with a smaller piece that was raw in the center. That piece was returned and we finally received a very small piece of salmon that was properly cooked. The manager was supposed to come over to the table, but apparently was too busy. They gave us a very small dessert as a make up for the error. The waiter was excellent, but apparently management doesn't care enough to talk to their customers or properly remove an item off the bill when multiple errors occurred with a dish that is ordered. Considering the menu prices, you would expect a much higher level of service. We will not be returning any time soon. The restaurant management needs to be more attentive to their customers. read more

What a fantastic evening we had on Saturday night. Our server Mo was so great and quite attentive. Right when you walk in there's a level of class here you don't find anymore. Waiters have on jackets. Patrons were dressed nice - which unfortunately you don't see too much anymore. They have wine lockers right by the door and they explained the whole process to us. I ordered a cup of the lobster bisque which Mo told me wasn't on the menu but is amazing. Had chunks of lobster on top. He offered fresh pepper to put on top which was nice. I'm not a steak person and sick of salmon and didn't want sea bass nor do I like ahi tuna so I asked if there were any specials and he said "we have a South African lobster tail" so I got that. Never had a South African lobster tail. If you aren't a steak person you don't have that many options but there are a few. I knew going in they don't provide sides at this restaurant for I've been to the bar and looked at the menu before so my entree was the lobster tail and that's it. Had a wedge of lemon and butter to dip but don't expect sides with your meal. The lobster tail was large so I definitely had enough food. I wanted to try the Au Gratin potatoes for a side. A bit too cheesy/rich for me but pretty nice flavor. After dinner Mo gave us warm towels and squeezed fresh lemon on them. That was SO NICE. Also brought us complimentary dessert and the cheesecake with the crystallized topping was unreal. Also flourless chocolate cake. A bit dry but was complimentary so can't complain. They also stamped their logo in chocolate which was so cool. After dinner we went to the bar and had a couple glasses of Robert Hall Merlot which I made a note of in my phone it was so good. Great service in the bar as well. Overall amazing experience. Beautiful place. read more

Had a fun dinner with friends at the Capital Grille. This place is absolutely so classy and top-notch! The service was impeccable. We had an excellent server who anticipate our every move but didn't have her. I start out with bonanza wine. It was so yummy and then switched to a vodka club soda, which I told the server was made perfectly! we had cocktail served on a bed of ice with lemon and cocktail sauce so good! I had the salmon over green beans. The salmon was a little bit dry but a very generous portion and I still enjoyed it. I had a side of asparagus cooked to perfection, the bread was so soft and unsalted butter complement it well. My friend had the steak which picture turned out blurry with Holliday sauce. Aside of mashed potatoes my son is saying could be the best ever. While Expensive, this is quite an experience and I would highly recommend. read more

1000000/10 Experience at The Capital Grille! My girlfriends and I went to The Capital Grille for the very first time to celebrate our best friend's birthday -- and WOW, it was unforgettable! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so special. They had birthday confetti beautifully spread across the table and even surprised our friend with a personalized birthday card just for her! Our amazing waitress truly went above and beyond. She gifted the birthday girl a free beverage, happily joined in on our TikTok video (which we loved!), and brought out a delicious birthday dessert that made the celebration even sweeter. To top it all off, she took a group photo of us and then printed out a photo card for each of us to take home -- such a thoughtful and unique touch that we'll always treasure! The food? Absolutely phenomenal. Every dish was bursting with flavor -- truly a 1000000/10! From start to finish, the service, atmosphere, and dining experience were everything we could've hoped for and more. If you're thinking about going, DO IT -- you won't regret it. I'm already planning my next visit. Thank you, Capital Grille, for making our special night even more magical! read more

We are steak snobs, eat out often, and for fans of past reviews , most steak houses reviewed are in NYC. My only 5* was Club A , maybe Keens, can't recall. Well I am very pleased to report that my first Boston Capital Grille experience was all 5.0's . Started off with French Onion Soup 5.0 excellent, girlfriend got clam chowder 5.0 . I got a bone in Filet Mignon Med Rare sliced, and my girlfriend got the Filet Wagu Mignon sliced. . I thought mine melted in my mouth until I tased hers...Yikes.....perfect. We got sauteed spinach 4.9 and potato Au-gratin 5.0 excellent. How can you beat all of this... Well if you like cheese cake and you like creme brulee, how about CheeseCake with a layer of Creme Brulee on top with fresh berries .... Wow. The service from Alexander was excellent, 5.0 For those who view Capital Grille as a chain like Ruth's, others, forget about it.... This is worth the trip. read more

Spectacular!!! You know after coming here, I wouldn't go to one in Manhattan east 42nd street. The service is far beyond compare to Hartford. Our server Leslie was phenomenal!! I mean entire night, she checked on us, gave us a pleasant service!! Incredible and thank you. I have been doing the Generous Pour years. To my taste, i like the white and rose selections better than red ones. Burrata and tomato was delicious! Tuna tartare was a superb! My veal chop was ok, I didn't like the lemon zest added to crust, i would jus leave it with only parmesan and bread crumbs. Finished it, but that wouldn't be my first choice next time, if it is seasoned same way. Lobster mac and wild mushrooms were great. Creme brûlée is a must at the end! read more
