A 5 Star Experience--top to bottom. Was in town briefly to celebrate our birthdays on a Friday around 2pm and the staff were so great in making us feel special and celebrated. I specifically want to shout out Eric, he's a server's assistant. He really started the whole experience right and it made the difference for me. My sister and I were spoiled with all the fantastic food, from the started bread to the crab cake and sirloin, to the dessert platter with the absolutely phenomenal mini crème brûlée cheesecake. I don't really like chocolate dessert but the espresso fudge mousse cake was also delicious! They even had little happy birthday decorations on the table! So I have been back to Capital Grille every week since they started Capital Hours and I REGRET NOTHING! We are waited hand and foot every single time, the drinks are amazing, the food has been incredible - lamb, shrimp, and steak perfectly cooked!, and the atmosphere is fantastic. My mom and I were walk-ins during the holiday season ( We'd. Dec 12) so the restaurant was very busy, but they were able to accommodate us which we were grateful for. We were sat at a comfortable booth near some Christmas parties but were not greeted for 12 minutes. We had a long drive to Asheville ahead of us so we were looking to be in and out. We saw several servers walk by multiple times (including the one who we later found out was our designated server) but no one stopped. I eventually stopped a man named Shaun and asked him politely if he could assist us with finding our server. He was the right person to stop. Even though it wasn't his fault, Shaun took our order right then and there, apologized for the delay in service, saw to our drinks and bread service coming out right away, regularly walked by to check on us and owned our experience from there on out. Eventually our server did come by but if it wasn't for Shaun it might have been a very disappointing experience. Excellent dining experience. The food, ambience, and service at the Capital Grille in uptown were superb. Highly recommend the calamari for an appetizer which has a nice spice kick from the hot peppers as well as a slight vinegar taste with the banana peppers. For dinner, we enjoyed a NY strip steak cooked to perfection and the sea bass. I'm often hesitant to order fish at a restaurant but I'm so happy I went with the sea bass because it was delicious and so soft and flaky. The cheese cake and coconut cream pie with rum for desert were incredible. Not to mention, the service was all around great. We were really able to enjoy our dinner without being rushed. Shocked that I've never written a review for my favorite restaurant in the US, Capital Grille. My daughter and I had a wonderful experience. She had never been to CG before and was blown away by the service (Douglas), food offerings, and quality of the cuisine we ordered. We decided to start with the raw oysters on half shell, which were excellent, and I love a mignonette. We then split the spinach and poached pear salad- again, amazing. On to the entree- we ordered the 10 oz filet to split, medium rare, and it was perfection. My daughter couldn't stop raving about it. Sides to accompany the filet were creamed corn and the delicious lobster Mac and cheese. Finally, we ordered the simple creme brûlée- which was chef's kiss. Light, creamy, Madagascar vanilla bean galore, and topped with fresh berries. Capital Grille has always been my most favorite, consistently delicious upscale restaurant (in Charlotte, Denver, etc.), with the best service from valet, service, food, drinks, and back to valet. For food we chose the Ribeye 22 oz, Seared Citrus Glazed Salmon for our entrees and the Lobster Mac and cheese and Cream Spinach "For the Table" shareable platters. All of the food was very good! *chefs kiss* the Lobster Mac & Cheese was my favorite the glaze that came with salmon really sold my entree. Overall everything was so good. I have no complaints. Now the service.... The service was top tier! We had Peter Karas for our server and he was awesome! Very attentive, helpful, professional, friendly & personable! Ok so the way I ended up eating here is kinda funny. I found a super old (15+ years) Olive Garden gift card in a drawer. I hate Olive Garden (clearly) so I didn't want to use it their but noticed on the back that you could use it at any of their other restaurants. I looked up what restaurants that group owns and recognized Capital Grille on the list. I know CLT has one but it was never on my radar. I was super surprised to discover how nice of restaurant it is! Very fancy and upscale. Service was amazing! Every single thing we ate was delicious. I have been coming to capital grille for years. I've been specifically coming to the Charlotte location for one year. I've never had a bad experience. It has a traditional steakhouse atmosphere and the staff is always welcoming and friendly. This time, my party was in a hurry to get to the theater and our waiter was very accommodating. We started with the bread of course. The salted butter is a major underrated component of this meal! It's like no other restaurant. I love it! We also got the tuna tar tar, which holds my only complaint. The dish is advertised to include mango, and we were pretty disappointed that ours didn't have it on there. The only thing, we didn't notice until we finished the dish because it was fantastic anyway! For our meals, we all got filets. I split a bone in with my mom, and the others got 8-10oz. They were all cooked perfectly to our liking. The Parmesan truffle fries were as expected, delicious. The other sided were full of flavor. My favorite was the au gratin potatoes. They had a nice crunch and were so flavorful. Onto desserts, I never come here without eating the cheesecake. To my surprise, the crème brûlée was my favorite! I think I found my new dessert when I come to this restaurant. Easily one of my top 5 desserts in charlotte. We also ordered the flourless chocolate cake, which didn't arrive with our other desserts. We've been ordering or dining with Capital grille for a while now but today an extremely off day! 2 of us ordered the porcini ribeye; one rare the other medium but they didn't label them so we had to cut into them to figure it out. The medium one was accurate but the rare one was cooked medium!! They also forgot to include the mint for lamb chops as requested when we called the order in. Bread and silverware were also missing. Since it was a pick up and they've done so well during our past visits, we didn't open the individual boxes to check. The only thing that was the same was the coconut cream pie. The Porcini-Rubbed Bone-In Ribeye with 15-Year Aged Balsamic is absolutely the best steak I have ever tried! Nothing has compared. I have had wagyu, some of the best sirloin, steaks that have cost me much more, and yet it remains the king. I had this steak many years ago and began to wonder if I was imagining it being better than it actually was. I had it again for my birthday and it was everything I remembered. The service was amazing always, as well. One of the most high class establishments that Charlotte has to offer. We were here for restaurant week and got the two salads, the filet Mignon with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes and tried both the cheesecake and espresso flour cake for dessert. My friend also got the stoli doli cocktail which they are known for. The field green salad was surprisingly tasty for a salad, I got the filet mignon cooked the chefs way which was a bit rarer. It was very tender and delicious. Both desserts were great but i prefer chocolate so the espresso chocolate cake was my favorite (it is also decaf). Came here for my birthday and was really appreciative of the service we receieved but I felt the food didn't live up to their usual caliber. I had went to the Raleigh location and was so pleased with everything I ordered but when I came here it didn't compare. I started with a salad, the one containing beets, goat cheese, and citrus vignagrette. The salad wasn't dressed enough and had too much goat cheese. My filet mignon was good but I felt the vegetables it came with weren't cooked well, they still had some toughness to them. The spinach with garlic confit was very bland, I was expecting it to be sauteed with a little more skill. And then lastly the lobster mac and cheese...horrible. This was the worst part of the meal, it seemed as if they hadn't baked it in the oven following plating it or didn't broil the top...I'm not sure but the lobster was tough and the dish wasn't very hot. I hope this was just a one time occurence due to the reputation of Capital Grille, it might just be the Charlotte location. Lobster bisque in general is typically a hit or miss for me, but theirs is always delicious. It was like heaven! Also had creamed corn and sauteed spinach. The sides were pretty huge! Some of the corn was a bit tough, but still good. All Fresh ingredients! Also ordered an Old Fashion ( they call it In Fashion) cocktail, and it was one of the best I've had. The wedge salad was also delicious, the bacon really set it off! You get more by ordering the entree portion wedge salad versus appetizer, which only costs a little more. I had the worst experience here on 1-24-26. My server was matt which was good however the overall experience was terrible from the start. I sat outside 17 minutes awaiting valet walked in the restaurant to ask about valet and spotted them in the adjacent building legs kicked up(they were sitting in the building on there phones) the host apologized and seated us, Matt again was great. I ordered the wedge salad and it came with a mountain of blue cheese where every bite was overwhelming with salad dressing. Then my lump crab cake came with waaay too much aioli where it over powered the taste. Not to mention it wasn't hot. My strawberry lemon drop was very tart but drinkable. This is our go-to place for special occasions. I tell everyone you are treated like Royalty here. The food is always delicious and the atmosphere is very upscale. The only thing I don't care for is the new artwork they have placed on the walls. It looks very out of place compared to the nice surroundings. It was our anniversary weekend so we came here and were seated at a very small table in the middle of the room. The waiter asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and hubby mentioned it was our Anniversary. We started off with soups. I got the lobster bisque and it was perfect. Several large pieces of lobster inside. Hubby got his favorite, the french onion soup. IMO this place has the best french onion soup in the city. I'm disappointed in the presentation though; they used to serve it in a small brown crock. You definitely got more soup in there as it is deeper and easier not to mess up the cheese instead of the small cup he was served in. For entrees I got the ribeye with lobster and requested a side of horseradish cream sauce. Hubby got the blackened ribeye that was a special that evening. After tasting his, I realized I should have ordered the same. It had a nice seasoned flavor. The lobster was a tad bit dry, but it came with butter sauce, so that helped. The waiter then presented us with an Anniversary treat on the house. 2 glasses of champagne and 2 small desserts on the house. How amazing of them ! The cheesecake one was really good. The dark chocolate one was very bitter with a slight coffee flavor so we didn't take much of that one. I highly recommend this place to impress out of town guests or for special occasions. In fact, a friend of mine visiting from California came here the following night after seeing my Facebook post of the lovely meal we had. In these days of cutbacks and short staff, it seems as though Capital Grille has gone unaffected because this is the same great food, portion sizes (except the soups), and service that we have been coming to for years. read more
